Seton HeII Post Game Thread

Need to takedown St John’s at Storrs South to make up for this one.

However, Red Storm are NYC’s team (per the court)

Why is that? Shouldn't teams bring in any recruits they want after two titles? Or did he fail in player evaluations? Maybe not win another title, but a Sweet 16 doesn't seem like too much to ask. Missing the tournament is a horrible job by the coach.
Well as of now he hasn’t missed the tournament. 17-8 and a top 5 finish in conference isn’t terrible after back to back championships. I’ll take that everytime. To the recruiting angle, Hurley doesn’t really recruit that way. He’s shown to lean heavily on the side of staying loyal to his guys. He did it when he first got here as well. Maybe he should change that approach. We’ll see.

This team can’t inbound the ball to save their lives. It’s so baffling.
I know this is a dumb question, but why don’t they inbound quickly instead of throwing the ball to the ref to give the other team time to set up?

McNeeley got fouled on the drive & Ball got fouled on the last play, with that said, Hurley had a terrible game- got outcoached verse Pitino & now this- why foul with 9 seconds when you know your having major trouble getting the ball in bounds & Seton Hall is a terrible shooting team.
Guess the coaches don’t believe they can play defense for 14 seconds without allowing a made 3. Fouling with 9 seconds to prevent a three doesn’t make sense. Too much time afterwards for something to go wrong.
Not getting foul calls in last minute of OT hurt but good teams don’t let it come down to that or put the game in the refs hands. This team doesn’t know how to put opponent away, even a bad team like Seton Hall.

People love to come and chastise any criticism of the refs. The loss can be embarrassing and unacceptable AND the refs can be garbage at the same time.

I learned a long time ago that many people’s brains can’t process more than one thing at a time.

.-.
Hurley dropped the ball on Mahaney who can't play point guard in this conference. Diara who should be coming off the bench has no backup and is playing hurt. The soph wings have not show the growth that Hurley was predicting. Nowell is a mystery. Its not a very good team. If they somehow make the tourney I can't see them winning more than 1 game.

Ball literally got tackled with 6 seconds left. Not sure what else you want in that spot. That game was stolen despite how awful we played. UConn needs out of this conference yesterday.
The game was "stolen" because we have NO out-of-bounds play. High school stuff.

UConn is flawed but nowhere near the vitriol the trolls and clueless fans are spewing. As for the "lost" UConn fans, chill. UConn wins and loses without you.

Keep nailing the freshmen to the bench.

That’s totally going to end well for us.

I think we should see if they know how to dribble a basketball - they cannot be any worse at than the group we’re currently trusting to do so.
I could not agree more. You have to start playing Nowell over AM. It's crystal clear he is not a Big East level guard. And Ross....I don't know what to say. He is not any good. Give Abraham those minutes. It can't be worse.

After New Mexico
Wasn't that in the NCAA Tournament? How is an NCAA Tournament game loss worse than blowing 7 and 5 pt. leads in regulation and OT to a 6-18 injury riddled Seton Hall team that's lost 9 or 10 and just lost their last game at home to DePaul by 25?

The team tried to win while walking in their sleep through most of the first half.

The officiating was garbage but the way we played a lot of the game today was infuriating. We need to understand that we cannot let the opponent dictate the pace of play or style of play. We've let this happen far too many times this season.
It’s actually why Ross should be in and clutch and grab a guy to set a tone it’s not like hes gonna get many minutes.

Yeah the lack of penetration besides Diarra who is playing on one leg is startling to see. I can't remember a UConn team so inept at it since maybe the 2006 team.

48 seconds left, up 3 and Liam throws it the length of the court out of bounds. This is what our inbounds plays have come to.
And then some gimmicky football play that is usually used for teams to do some desperation scoring. Not to simply inbound it.

The roster needs a big makeover.

Why Abraham hasn't gotten run is beyond me.
Hurley is loyal to a fault. He always gives the guys with seniority a longer leash. It works when those guys are Hawkins, Adama, Newton, Clingan, and Ajax. It doesn’t work when those guys are SJ, gaffney, Polley, etc.

Like, just making the NCAAT is the max expectations I have for this team. Anything else is a bonus. It was a good 2 year run of dominance though.

.-.
The players who aren’t playing are a much bigger issue than the ones who are. We essentially are only playing 6 guys.

Does anyone on this board want Mahaney or Ross on the floor? We needed these guys this year and they have melted into puddles. Reed doesn’t play as much because Samson can recover on defense much better, but Samson is always out of position and constantly recovering. It’s a Catch-22 when your guards are just abysmal at stopping the drive.

The biggest eye opener for me is this team is just utterly lacking urgency. We are slow on our feet, we are slow to the air, and we are slow to the close out. The athleticism is there, but it looks like they’re moving in quicksand all game long. Our set plays move 2 gears slower and take 8 seconds longer to get a shot.

Hurley all year has been saying this group needs to be “coached different.” He can’t yell at them as much or be as critical as he was in years past….this is the big red flag I’ve seen coming since November.

He’s not point shaving, cmon. It’s the NIL era. Kids have dollars in their pocket from that. He’s not going to risk his future on that. He made a big 3 toward the end of the game and was clearly trying.
That was written tongue in cheek. Clearly he's not point shaving. But if he was, that's what it might look like.

Brendan Adams, Jalen Gaffney, Rahsool Diggins, Stephon Castle, Ahmad Nowell. I doubt its Hurley nailing him to the bench - he just can't recruit a PG out of HS.

You really think this as currently constituted is going to do anything in the Tourney let alone even make it? I don't see them being much of a player in the Tourney.
