Seton HeII Post Game Thread

Keep nailing the freshmen to the bench.

That’s totally going to end well for us.

I think we should see if they know how to dribble a basketball - they cannot be any worse at than the group we’re currently trusting to do so.
Yeah the lack of penetration besides Diarra who is playing on one leg is startling to see. I can't remember a UConn team so inept at it since maybe the 2006 team.

48 seconds left, up 3 and Liam throws it the length of the court out of bounds. This is what our inbounds plays have come to.
And then some gimmicky football play that is usually used for teams to do some desperation scoring. Not to simply inbound it.

Hurley dropped the ball on Mahaney who can't play point guard in this conference. Diara who should be coming off the bench has no backup and is playing hurt. The soph wings have not show the growth that Hurley was predicting. Nowell is a mystery. Its not a very good team. If they somehow make the tourney I can't see them winning more than 1 game.
The roster needs a big makeover.

Why Abraham hasn't gotten run is beyond me.
Hurley is loyal to a fault. He always gives the guys with seniority a longer leash. It works when those guys are Hawkins, Adama, Newton, Clingan, and Ajax. It doesn’t work when those guys are SJ, gaffney, Polley, etc.

Like, just making the NCAAT is the max expectations I have for this team. Anything else is a bonus. It was a good 2 year run of dominance though.

The players who aren’t playing are a much bigger issue than the ones who are. We essentially are only playing 6 guys.

Does anyone on this board want Mahaney or Ross on the floor? We needed these guys this year and they have melted into puddles. Reed doesn’t play as much because Samson can recover on defense much better, but Samson is always out of position and constantly recovering. It’s a Catch-22 when your guards are just abysmal at stopping the drive.

The biggest eye opener for me is this team is just utterly lacking urgency. We are slow on our feet, we are slow to the air, and we are slow to the close out. The athleticism is there, but it looks like they’re moving in quicksand all game long. Our set plays move 2 gears slower and take 8 seconds longer to get a shot.

Hurley all year has been saying this group needs to be “coached different.” He can’t yell at them as much or be as critical as he was in years past….this is the big red flag I’ve seen coming since November.

He’s not point shaving, cmon. It’s the NIL era. Kids have dollars in their pocket from that. He’s not going to risk his future on that. He made a big 3 toward the end of the game and was clearly trying.
That was written tongue in cheek. Clearly he's not point shaving. But if he was, that's what it might look like.

Brendan Adams, Jalen Gaffney, Rahsool Diggins, Stephon Castle, Ahmad Nowell. I doubt its Hurley nailing him to the bench - he just can't recruit a PG out of HS.

UConn is flawed but nowhere near the vitriol the trolls and clueless fans are spewing. As for the "lost" UConn fans, chill. UConn wins and loses without you.
You really think this as currently constituted is going to do anything in the Tourney let alone even make it? I don't see them being much of a player in the Tourney.

And one more thing for the greatest coach in the game, it was never a good idea to have the ball in HDs hands dribbling down the clock when he was healthy and we came up empty again a few times because he’s on one leg. Really awful coaching job today!!’

Hurley needs to own this one. i dont want any whining about the fans complaining, the refs missing calls, blah blah... the game came down to needing to execute 1 of 5 in bounds plays and none worked.
Can’t agree more.

I could not agree more. You have to start playing Nowell over AM. It's crystal clear he is not a Big East level guard. And Ross....I don't know what to say. He is not any good. Give Abraham those minutes. It can't be worse.
Yep

I’m not even sure I’d say big. When need a big lead guard who can defended and a couple of athletes who can defend. Abraham may be able to fill that role. The guard will have to come from the portal. We have enough skill finesse guys. I’d expect Ball and Stewart to be really good next year.

i can’t read anymore. Folks, bad loss. Should have won. Bad execution. But stop embarrassing yourselves, please. We beat St. John’s and/or make a deep BE tourney run and that will set us up for a nice March run. Bottom line is that losing Liam for a month set us back. Set him back. We will go as far as he takes us. What are the long term benefits from this game?
1. Alex is back.
2. Hass looks healthier
3. Solo made some big shots; and
4. They got embarrassed. Historically, this bodes well for us under this regime.
Now, take a deep breath. Kiss your kids. Enjoy your Saturday. We will do better than this. This year.

Worst performance and result in 5 years. Unacceptable from top on down. Poor coaching and even worse execution from the players. Embarrassing.

I don't get this obsession that after a made basket you take yourrr timeeeee, let the ref pick up the ball and give it to youuuuuuu .. AND LET THE OTHER TEAM SET UP THE PRESS. Grab the friggin ball and get it inbounds and stop letting the other team set up their defense.
