Yea it seems like he doesn't want to come off as a homer and goes way to the other end where he's overcompensating. Just call the game like a regular announcer, Robbie Hummel is a Purdue grad and has called a bunch of Purdue games and I never hear that stuff with him.

I wish those who mute Donny would also do us the courtesy of muting their complaints after the game.
 
I can tell when Tarris is going to miss a free throw and when he's going to make them.

When he misses he rushes through and shoots in one continuous motion after the bounce. With a little hitch as he's bringing the ball up.

When he makes he comes to a full stop, pauses, and shoots fluidly from the knees.

I've been watching this for 3 straight games.

I would say it was more fair than friendly. Seton Hall fouls you every time down the floor. They make the referees make a decision. Very physical. Very active hands.

BTW, I've been going to Gampel for thirty years. When Mullins hit that three during the comeback, the building went to a volume seldom heard there.

At the end of the day, Seton Hall got everything it wanted today. After going 0-18 from 3 against Georgetown, they went 9-18 today. Uconn was coming off an physically and emotionally exhausting win on Wednesday. Seton Hall had a week to prepare for this game that they had to have if they wanted to make the tournament with an at-large bid. They shot lights out from 3 and, for 33 minutes, got every 50-50 ball. Even still, UConn pulled it out.

I don't know how this team's season will end up. The defense has to get more consistent. They have to shoot better from the line and they have to get Stewart back...but this was a great win to get today for Karaban. Go Nova!

LOL... I use to say the same thing about Giffey's 3s. If he had time to set, he was a 95% 3 point shooter. But because he shot the call decently, he took many 3s when he wasn't set, and on those, he shot 5%.

Stood around on offense and hoisted 3’s. Michigan is really good but I think they would have a hard time defending our offensive movement. We would have to play our A game to defeat them. I think our style would frustrate them

Yes, I'm not sure why UConn fans are so apologetic about the reffing. Hall deliberately fouls because they know the refs won't call of them.

It's a great strategy against UConn IF 2 things happen.

1. You're efficient offensively. Hall was.
2. The opponent is not a very good FT shooting team, and today UConn did not shoot well.
 
Everyone has a right to their opinion and complaints. For me, if I have to complain about players, coaches, announcers, arena's etc. easy; I complain about the refs, like 99% of the fan bases. The refs have the hardest job and are the more likely to err, so any complaints are probably warranted.

The big take away from the past 2 games against SJ and SH, is that the refs forced us to play the other teams game, and impressively, we won both! Forcing us to play physical, and the other teams game, is my biggest complaint about the refs. In both games the results were more of a reflection of the opponent than UConn. SJ stunk it up and it showed. SH impressed and it showed. UConn was impressive and won, because the officiating was more or less consistent. Poor in style, but consistent. SH can argue inconsistent because of the rare FTA in UConn's favor.

For comparison, Duke forced Michigan to play it's game, and Michigan could not win. UConn's ability to win different style of games is encouraging.

That’s one of many that could have gone the other way this season. Can’t win them all and it was to the team that consistently outcoached UConn, they still lead the series handily.

Did you watch the game? UConn had 1 foul for most of the 2nd half while the Huskies were in the bonus. I think you may be in love with a narrative.

As I was typing this I realized someone could say the same thing about my complaints toward Malachi. But whether Donny is a good announcer or not has no bearing on the outcome of the game. Smith's play does.

No Donny hate here. It is just that when the game is going on he is still in the non game story telling which is a distraction. I discovered that muting him during the game reduces the irritation. You can focus on the game. He has a lot of good attributes; he just needs someone in management to give him some coaching up. He might have the potential for a long career.

Yes, it's quite unfair but apparently the league likes it so kudos for Dan Hurley, staff and team for gritting through this to victory. Good post and positive outlook!

I’ve had Gampel tickets for a long time. For every cold Wednesday night game against Quinnipiac that I’m stuck in the North garage for 45 minutes, there’s today.

Beautiful weather outside. Ted’s pregame. The Alex senior day ceremony. The game. The sunny walk back down to Ted’s. My daughter’s last home game as a student. Good vibes all around. I’m lucky and proud to be a UConn fan.

He was brutal. He had plenty of open cutters he ignored. He might as well have tried a couple of passes since dribbling into traffic was the result of holding to the ball. But I’ll draw a line through it.
 
Great win today. Is there anyone who didn't think Seton Hall would make it difficult? Hines was a monster down low, they shot 9-18 from 3, 8-9 from the free throw line, and were tough on defense and the boards- hallmarks of Holloway and the Hall. Coming off the lopsided win vs. St. John's and with this being Senior Day (not to mention AK's number being retired), I had concerns about this team being locked in emotionally, and I think for the most part those concerns were validated- BUT the Huskies locked in down the stretch and were able to secure the win.

On that controversial play at the end, yes Silas did hand check Budd Clark, but it was a light touch and Clark was not yet in the act of shooting. And that sort of thing happens all the time with the hand checks without being called, so why would the refs call it there? Credit Seton Hall for being the aggressor and fighting for their NCAA Tourney lives. They had the Huskies on the ropes, but this is a solid victory.
