Seton Hall Post Game Thread

Malachi Smith drives me crazy. At least he made 1 of 2 free throws. I guess that is improvement?
He’s been a walking turnover since Big East play started. He dribbles way too much and has a shaky handle at best, which is nuts. Also very tired of him getting the ball with the shot clock winding down and getting his shot blocked, happens every game. Hope he returns to non-conference form going forward bc he is needed

Ross didn’t play nearly enough minutes in the 2nd half.

This was not a Mullins game with the physicality. Kid was absolutely shut down and basically a non-factor. Yes he got the one 3pt shot to go down at a very important time but other than that he was basically a ghost in the 2nd half.

Alex was not going to let this team lose in his last game at Gampel.

i went to college with him, Ive heard enough stories about him, from him. His ratio of talking to information or analysis is p
I did too and have talked to him once and he is a little bit of cocky guy. I don't dislike him but sometimes he does go over board on what he says.

When Big East came on the scene Mike Gorman and "Raff" were the best. Dave Simms too.

Lots of points left on the line. Reed being 50% is something we have all accepted but your backup pg being 50% is not gonna cut it.

Love silas his defense was awesome (though you gotta know that they are gonna jack up a shot late if they know you are fouling so you gotta be careful)but he seems to have a game like this once every couple of games where is plays way too passively on offense. He had a smaller guy on him and only took 2 shots.
If we end up needing more than a few minutes from Smith in the post-season, I don't like our chances. I feel like we are just trying to survive his minutes. It is hard because he tends to come in with other bench players. But it was bad even when he and Silas were on the floor at the same time. He provides no spacing and he literally can't get a shot up without being blocked.

For a small guy he has a super slow release. That is a recipe for getting blocked a lot when he also doesn't have much lift jumping in his shots. Not the most atheltic guy. Decent speed but more stuck to the ground player. He needs to shoot less and trust his teammates with the ball. He barely looks to pass and that is awful for a diminutive PT guard. I wonder if he just loses sense of space and where his teammates are while dribbling for what seems 20 seconds on th top of the key. He has been a huge disappointment overall even after playing a few alright games.

Not our best win, but I’m not as frustrated as other times because the struggles seemed more flukey. Seton Hall prior to this game was 340th in 3 point percentage and made none in their last outing. Today, they shot almost 70% for a majority of the game. I don’t think the team played horrible defense, we just saw the opposite end of St John’s, where a team kept making tough shots.

FT shooting obviously an issue but it’s realistically not improving much so I’ll live with it. Smith also needs to stop pounding the ball.

I thought Silas played well against really physical ball pressure all game. He only scored 1 point but he was a steadying force. Ball had a good second half. Reibe had a couple nice moments. I really like what I am seeing from Ross lately. When Mullins goes out with foul trouble (which is a frequent occurrence) I am feeling more comfortable with Ross holding down the fort. He is a plus defender and his offense keeps improving. Way to go JR!
It would of been a great game to have Stewie around to help with the physical Seton Hall too. I like both Ross and Stewie as bench players.

That part was weird. No attempt at even a jumper and looked like he’d always pass up an open shot

They aren’t trying to hurt you when they do it. SJU does it to hurt and intimidate.

I wouldn't say SJU is trying to hurt. They want to impose their will physically. SHU just doesn't have any choice but to clutch and grab.

Some of his hot takes are just so over the top I don't even acknowledge them.
Too much Donny hate on this board. He is our guy, give him a break. Even if he is not the best. Chill with all the complaining.

As I was typing this I realized someone could say the same thing about my complaints toward Malachi. But whether Donny is a good announcer or not has no bearing on the outcome of the game. Smith's play does.

Someone ask the 80 year old coaching the women’s team if we’re allowed to have an opinion on the game.

Alex bailed us out. If he isn’t Superman, we get dumped Creighton-style.

Like 48 hours after getting confirmation that our depth is a huge advantage, Dan Hurley again shortened the bench and we immediately went back to being life and death with a scrub SH team.

Anyway, on to Marquette and rooting against SJU later on.
Thanks for your opinion it is so valued

The problem is Donny is such a bad announcer and his over the top takes with his attempts to try to pump up the opposition is just bad color commentary. I normally mute him but in this game he was managable probably due to John Fanta not being there who I'm not a huge fan of either. Together they are insufferable.

Watched from the last 3 min from the gondola at Stowe, thank the lord we won.

Was it close the whole game or they just shot out of their asses?

Not the Creighton game. We layed an egg in that one.
Well, sure and StJ but hyperbole makes the point. We've taken a lot of punches and are looking down at the mat at the losers again and again (there I go again!)

They were up 8 with just over 8 minutes left. The game was close and no team got over 8 point lead in the game.
