Seton Hall Post Game Thread

I thought many hard fouls were not called and even when Braylon got absolutely decked on a made 3 I looked at Gaffney to see if he would even blow the whistle.

I would say the game got unsafe in the 2nd half but silently I was hoping for OT with Clark and Payne out and Hines with 4 fouls it was gonna be all Reed vs guys much shorter than him.

Mullins was starting to groove late as well.
How about the play with just under a minute left in the game where Tarris goes to grab a rebound and a player from Seton Hall pokes the ball out of his hands from behind him, and the ref says it was out on Tarris??

The ball was very clearly out on Tarris

Watching the replay. If Seton Hall gets the wrong officiating crew, they could lose to Trinity College. But if they don't get their holds and handchecks called, they're probably the best pressure defense team in the country. Stressful way to coach/play/be a fan but it's worked well for them this year

SO went through. we were up 18 at 14:48, and up 6 at ~7:30. Over that time, SHU scored on 11/12 possessions. THe rundown is roughly:

BAD Mullins beat after a sloppy switch
GOOD Garbage prayer in the lane
GOOD rainbow shot over reed
GOOD completely broken play that resulted in a bucket
BAD smith beat, overhelp left a man open
BAD karaban foul after a bad switch
GOOD turnover
BAD reibe sloppy switch
BAD stewart beat
BAD karaban overhelped on mullins, left his man open
MEH foul
MEH transition layup

So of those 12 possessions, we had 4 good ones, 3 of resulted in garbage buckets for them, 2 meh ones, and 6 bad ones. Of the "bad" ones, the breakdowns seem spread across the team.Overall, the run was worse than it should have been due to the garbage buckets, but also, it was just a bad stretch for the defense.

Bottom line...we gotta get more stops in this critical junctures.

Ironically, I thought the offense was mostly effective at generating good shots once we got over the halfcourt. We just missed them all.
Awesome, thanks for looking at that.

I’ve never seen a more negative fan base of a 17-1 team. We’ve lost the plot.

Also, shoutout to TruTV for using the smallest font in broadcast history for the team fouls. If it weren’t for the ESPN app I’d have been walking across the room to check the numbers.
I liked the white font on a light gray background, as well.

Dan had a very crappy post game interview with Andy Katz, Andy didn’t deserve that arrogant comeback on what seemed like a good question. Please stop with “…. 4 games against SH doesn’t define my legacy…” Bull crap. Was disappointed in that, felt bad for Katz!
Meh. Andy Katz is a clown.

.-.
It was a fair question to ask him about his 4 game losing streak at the Rock. I thought Danny sounded defensive. Andy genuflected calling him a champion. I love Danny but I see why others don't.
Well, first of all, those people that "don't love Danny" are not UConn fans, so I couldn't care less about them, and neither should anyone else.

Yeah how dare he asks a question our coach doesn’t like. What was I thinking. 😂
No, I'm not calling Katz a clown for that question, but for a career of being a clown. I don't care if Hurley isn't properly respectful of a known clown

It's the 20th anniversary of the 2006 season and that is what this team is reminding me with each game. The talent is obviously there but just way too on and off to fully trust. Smith is a huge problem as the backup PG and Solo is a liability. Some of there Solo 3's need to start going to Silas. I trust him much more right now to make them. Team looks better with Stewart on the court.
Just an absolutely horrid take. The 2006 team, for one, had ONE ball handler on the entire roster - Marcus Williams. Second, most people on this board were concerned about them seemingly being disinterested too often, reading their own newspaper clippings, trying to get their own to pump up their draft stock, or just looking ahead to the draft, for what it's worth.

I see literally NONE of that with this team. Nevermind that most of the criticism involved their pro prospects, which we've seen in recent threads this team does not really have, outside of Mullins.

I hate to play both sides here… but…

At first I thought Danny sounded not only defensive but a bit flakey…

But then I thought about how snarky the question was and how cr@ppy ESPN has been to UConn.

I call it even…. Katz and Hurley both had a part in that awkward interview.
Andy Katz was a WRITER. Much like the two MLB nerds - verducci and rosenthal - they use as "field reporters" now. Being a writer does not translate to being an on field or on court reporter / interviewer. Every word out of his mouth is cringe. Even

No one is saying they don't have what it takes. They are not playing at a national championship level offensively.
Those two things ARE THE SAME. Again, BOTH championship teams lost this game and this was the best Seton Hall team of the three. And this team scored more points against SH than either of the championship teams, this one being the best defensive team of the three SH teams

Yeah that makes sense!

Good take!

The more I think about it - what an obnoxious set of questions for Dan! Don’t see Andy taking this approach with other top tier coaches after an imperfect but gritty conference road win.

Dan still has some piece of this too but Andy came across as a Tool in this interview.

Agree, but still there was a lot of self-inflicted things they did that contributed to a game that should have not been all that close.
They won by the exact margin of victory predicted by KenPom.

I question myself when I join most of the time. I tried the Reddit game thread, but got banned for promoting violence against the officials . . .
Meh, you're just promoting violence against the wrong people. Pick the right people and you can call for that all you like on that pit

home arena or not, it takes some piss poor defense to give up 19 points in 5 minutes or whatever it was.
Yeah, much like the offense, this "piss poor defense" allowed SH to score less points (64) than either of the championship teams (67 and 75)

I hate keyboard commandos calling players "soft". Nobody on this team is soft. Still, Tarris is good for 3-4 missed bunnies a game and I'd like to see him bring that number down a bit.
Indeed. Until you watch one of these games from, say, the first three rows courtside, you have no idea how physical it is. I sat in like the third row for a game at then XL in like '98 or '99 and came away with the conclusion I've never played the game those guys are playing. Sat behind the bench for the game at VA tech in 2004 and same thing
