Seton Hall Post Game Thread

He said “Youve been able to win everywhere, but you have not been able to win here, until tonight, to snap a 4-game losing streak”

Technically incorrect. Was Hurley defensive? Sure. But kind of a boneheaded way to ask the question. Just say “Youve lost 4 in a row in this building. What was different tonight?”
Sure, that would be a better way to ask the question, but lighten up. Danny is playing with house money. He has two chips and everyone knows he is great. He doesn't need to take everything as a slight. But I guess that is what drives him to greatness, keeping that chip on his shoulder even when everyone knows how great he is. The reason 4 losses in a row is news worthy is because how uncharacteristic it is for this program.

I think it gets under Danny's skin because he is so superstitious, he really believes there is some kind of hex and it haunts him. I'm just saying, give yourself a break Danny!

Again they have a better record than ‘23 or ‘24 did at this point.

I’m not saying where they’re going to end up but this whole “this team doesn’t have what it takes” stuff is really bizarre.

No one is saying they don't have what it takes. They are not playing at a national championship level offensively. You are not winning a title with a Ken Pom top 25 offense. It isn't getting better. The trend is moving backwards. Turnovers, missed 3's, scoring droughts. There are warning signs.

On defense are you allowed to lower your shoulder and smash the defender backward? That happened to Mullins on numerous occasions. I thought you were entitled to the space you occupy.
I think he needs to stand his ground and fall down. Not that it should be that way, but that seems to be how refs consistently call it. You have to flop to get the charge call. If you back peddle you get a blocking foul.

Seton Hall went from just clutching and grabbing to tackling.
Worst part is when we did get calls we couldn’t make our free throws… that’s very concerning thank God for Demery at the end - clutch.

But most frustrating with all the touch fouls we got called for… and what was it with their obsession with calling Alex for phantom fouls, while allowing Seton Hall to essentially maul our players…

Can you take your negativity elsewhere? The amount of open looks we get is insane. No other team can match them. When - not if - those shots start falling, we’ll be more than OK and shoot up your coveted Ken Pom rankings.

My gosh, we’re 17-1 for crying out loud. And we’ve beat some pretty good teams along the way. But we gotta read absolute crap like this.

That requires one of Ross or Stewart to step up. Both have had flashes. Both were pretty bad today.
Ross continues to look lost out there and scared. But Stewart played well I thought. Only 2 points, missed his one 3-pt attempt, but didn't really hurt us. I thought he played pretty good D. I recall one play particularly where he kept the ball handler in front of him, forced a fade away and I think he got a piece of it because it fell way short of the rim.

5 wins over ranked teams, only loss was to #1 without two of our starters in a game we had our chances at the end but look at what Ken Pomeroy says...

That’s the problem. There’s nobody to take Solos minutes, Stewart wasn’t good today either, Ross was a fouling machine on defense, we’re gonna need Solo to figure it out by March.
Ross was starting to figure it out before he missed some games due to injury. Tonight he regressed, got blown by at least twice by overplaying the pass. Completely unnecessary. He probably would have received more minutes if he just played sound defense trying to stay in front of his man. Ross has all the physical tools. I still root for him and believe he can develop into a very talented player.

You should listen to the post game space on X. Complete lunacy

Really I was super happy with the win. Great D and Feed the beast. I don't think anyone really thought it would be an easy win right?
I think the reason people are frustrated is because we had an 18 point lead and almost lost it. It is much more fun coming from behind than hanging on without a made field goal in the final 6 minutes. But yes, no one thought this would be easy so we should step back and put this in perspective.

Rock fight win. Good.

People down on Solo Ball are not real fans. There, I said it. It's a confidence thing with him right now, but he is a sorely needed ingredient on this team, as a creator, as a passer, a facilitator, and soon a 3 point bomber.
Sorry, we can be down on Solo for his poor play and still be "real fans". He has played horribly the last few games, pure and simple: limited offense and severely lacking defense. We can only hope that he snaps out of it and addresses and proves his issues.

Loved Hurley' s response about losing at Seton Jall. paraphrasing My legacy is not determined by one game a year against - "WE ARE UCONN"
It is certainly good for Hurley to remind himself of that but asking a legitimate question is not grounds for getting defensive. Why not bask in the relief of finally winning one at the Rock after 4 losses in a row? Smile, your team just won the game!

Can we talk about what a little b Shaheen was that game? Like dude, your team committed a million fouls what in the world are you complaining about. You should be thanking the refs

Then he got was in his little defensive stance on the court minutes after an all-time crash out - such a dweeb
I like his energy. Plus it proves Danny isn't the only animated coach in the BE. And even though Danny is over the top, wouldn't you rather have interesting coaches in the BE to buttoned up professionals?

Fair, bad was probably not appropriate. Stewart played good D, but looked a bit lost offensively today. The broader point being he and/or Ross need to show more consistent offensive production before Hurley can possibly think about heavily cutting into Solo’s minutes.

I think I might try to watch the next game w/o also being on chat. I have to think it's a far better experience. Half the people on chat don't deserve this team.
I haven’t been in the chat in 2 or 3 years. I think it’s kind of useless. I can’t watch the game and pay attention to the chat at the same time. So I just yell at the TV instead.

To your question - generally, yes. I was irked that he was riding the refs so hard after coaching his team to foul incessantly while avoiding getting called for it

I’ve never seen a more negative fan base of a 17-1 team. We’ve lost the plot.
There are some over-the-top negative folks here, but with that said, this is a forum, and when the team performs poorly, do you expect everyone to post, best performance ever, they executed to perfection...come on man!

As poorly the game was officiated, they played a lot of bad basketball, but simply were the superior team and made more plays, especially when it counted most. If they played like this against a team that can shoot FTs and 3s at a solid clip, we don't come out of that game with a W. That was a brutal last 10 minutes. Hurley has more than enough to work on improvements, like learning to inbound the ball. Why this is still an issue for this team is a head-scratcher.

With that said, Silas was great, Mullins came up huge, though still has his obligatory step on the sideline and Reed was a beast, though missed 8 of our 10 missed FTs. Geez, I tried to finish this a 100% positive but just couldn't do it tonight.

I agree with you on your take but I will say I am dumbfounded that they can erupt with an effortless 10 point spurt in a minute’s time while blowing a lead almost as quickly. What the 2023 and 2024 teams had that I haven’t seen from this one is was a dogged resistance to let the opponent back in the game.

If we weren't held and tackled constantly we win by 20.

The game was everything we predicted it would be, an ugly, low scoring rock fight. Both teams missed 10 free throws. Both teams shot poorly from 3. Both teams fouled a lot. No surprise.

TR was the difference, despite 8 missed FT's (9 if you count the missed front end)
AK played pretty well but had trouble not fouling.
SD was solid, clutch from line at the end
BM had his moments (can he stop stepping out of bounds?) but we sure needed him. He actually scored our last field goal at 5:42. That was big time. And the block at the end of course.
SB is still struggling but I thought he rebounded the ball well. Nice dunk too.
JS played good D

Still have things to work on but checked another box tonight: win a rock fight

He also said you've won two championships in four seasons. Nope, it's two in three seasons Andy. Hurley is going for three in four seasons.
What I think Katz meant there was that we have won two nattys during the same four year losing streak at Prudential to show how crazy that is but he didn’t articulate it correctly? I thought Danny looked petty there but no biggie

Still growing as a team. Loved the first half. Lotta guys doing good things. Yeah, foul city by the Hall, but they play with a manic intensity. When they get close they can smell blood in the water. Great game, will help us down the road.
