Seriously...

yeah, you're right. how dare we expect something better from the defending NCs. let's see how many excuses we can come up with:

1. we played on the road in the big, bad carrier dome. if only this game was home, we would have won
2. syracuse shot lights out (forget the fact that they were wide open all game)....if only they didn't shoot so well, we would have won
3. drummond gets hurt...if only he didn't get hurt, we would have won

and on, and on. are we really reduced to being happy because they finally play a game where they seem to give a ?? wow, i guess i need to change my expectations

maybe one day you will understand basketball and see the positives...... We can only hope for the boneyards sake.

The windshield wiper offense is good ball movement? A better effort than we've been accustomed to lately but we still look soft and immature and lack poise.

i guarantee i know more than you about basketball. maybe one day, we won't be relegated to being happy because we played 30 minutes of good basketball....good god. UConn just lost to Syracuse by 18 points....when is that EVER, EVER acceptable???

When you're on the road, you're team has one upperclassman (who was in constant foul trouble), when you find a way to break the zone but then that player gets injured and leaves for 5 minutes, when Syracuse shoots 60% from 3. I could go on.

Did I want UConn to win the game? Yes.
Was I upset that the final score was 18? Yes.
Did I think this game showed marked improvement over the previous 6? Yes.
Am I going to let 4 minutes of less-than stellar defense coupled with insane Syracuse shooting overshadow everything else positive in the game? No.

god bless...i thought we were long past the point of moral victories...to each his own

Progress isn't linear. Teams, especially young teams, have ups and downs. This was an up in relation to effort, offensive execution, etc. They seemed to want to play together. That's a step in the right direction.

Really. When did we pass that? Last week when you figured out that pea shooter between your legs gets stiff when you look at girls?

.-.
Then I am an idiot because I am not happy losing by 18 to anyone.

Not with this talent.
I'm an idiot too. An 18 point loss and second straight blow-out in a game that was down to 2 with four minutes and change left should not be something to celebrate. Screw moral victories, let's start playing complete games and winning games. Like Will Ferrell's father said in "Kicking and Screaming", "You know what you call coming close? Losing." I'm actually much more upset by the many close loses to lesser teams this year that have put us on the outside looking in for the NCAA tourney than I am about today, but any loss is a loss.

Doubt anyone's celebrating but why harp on the obvious when there was a lot more good agains the nations #2?? They may have found something and one can only hope they take this and continue the momentum. No guarantees but why continue to whine about negative ?

careful now, you might upset some of the limp noodles on this board who are really pleased with the improvement today

i don't know who said it, maybe Vince Lombardi: "show me a good loser and i'll show you a loser"

Better offense, really really bad defense. cuse hit shots, but so many were uncontested. They need to look back at some game film from tourney last year. Telling stat, cuse only had 9 turnovers. They did whatever they wanted, with little resistance....then hit the open shots.

Totally agree with you uconngh. Our guards do not play tough defense. All they do is go for steals because that probably worked in high school. Sounding like there are lots of apologistas on this forum.

.-.
They played well at times, not so good at other sretches. Unlike last season this tesm doesn't know how to finish.

Clearly, we just suck. As a result, you should stop watching (or, at least stop posting on the boneyard).

No one is celebrating this loss and no one is happy we lost by 18 but if you couldn't see signs of improvement today, find a new sport.

You don't go from being a bad team, which Uconn has been for a stretch, to a good team overnight. I don't know if this team will even end up being good by the end of the year but there were definitely positives from this game which give us fans some reason to look forward to the rest of the season.

The main weakness of this team is zone offense. Cuse has arguably the best zone in the country. Our offense at times looked very good today against this great D, better than it has looked against any other team who predominantly plays man and scrapes up some zone D a few days before our matchup (when was the last time a team played man against us, Cinci? I think that may be the only man we have seen in the BE). If the team can play well against a zone D like this, it bodes well for the future games against teams employing junk zones.

Shabazz has been in a coma for as long as I can remember and showed clear signs of life today. He played very smart (disregarding that horrendous bounce pass to Drummond) and for the team to make any damage in March, Bazz needs to be good. This is a positive.

Drummond seemed to finally realize that if he post up really hard close to the hoop he can simply catch and dunk. This is a positive.

Harp on D all you want - and this time has struggled all year to get key stops - but the team defense is still top 5 in the country in Field Goal % defense.

When you guys finally get through your head that uconn isnt good this year, then you wont have trouble with these loses. Get it through your heads. THEY ARE NOT A GOOD TEAM THIS YEAR. They played well today and hung with the #2 team in the country for 36 minutes. I'm proud of them.

Exactly. This game confirms what we knew going in: This is a bubble team.

It was a very deflating game, through and through. It really seemed like Cuse would just *k with UConn, and then whenever it got close, they would flip the switch and go on a 9-0 run. Really, it sucks to watch UConn put together a methodical 8-2, 6-1 run to get in it, and then in a matter of two minutes, Syracuse has stretched the lead back to double digits. On a good day UConn has four guys who can hurt you (Drummond, Boatright, Lamb, Napier) and usually at least one of them is off. Cuse has Melo, Joseph, Triche, Jardine, Fair, and Waiters who are all capable of getting you twenty points a night. There were clearly matchup problems all over the court, so although Cuse won't shoot 60% every game, I'm not sure they were playing out of their minds either.

UConn executed on offense for the most part, played hard, and they still lost by 20 points. Definitely deflating.

Anyone who is mad about this game is an idiot.

It would be just as easy to say anybody who is happy about this game is an idiot. Yeah, Cuse played well. Does that mean we shouldn't be upset with not finishing the job and allowing them to score whenever they needed a basket? This team has been attrocius guarding the three point line all year long.

Today it wasn't so much of Cuse toying with us, it was basically that they answered every single run of ours with multiple daggers 3's, made by mediocre 3 point shooters which was really, really frustrating. Jardine, Joseph and Waiters are all very streaky shooters and they made every single attempt to stop a run of ours.

SU is just better and deeper. It happens. Am I happy that the final was what it was, god no, but the fight from the team was what caused me to smile. I felt it would have been easy to fold up the tents any number of times and they didn't do it, they nutted up and pushed back. That alone is a big improvement.
