Secret Scrimmage

My biggest concern this year on offense is creating our own shot off the bounce in the half court. Shot clock ticking down or big end of game possession...the lineup that started, outside of Gilbert will struggle with this. Even Gilbert with being vertically challenged often gets swallowed up in the lane. It's in this area that a Booknight suspension could potentially hurt us. For those that have seen Gaffney extensively, how is he in this area, and how ready do you think he will be to contribute this season.

You are a pleasure. And we scored 86 points without two of our guards.
You'd have to assume that would change our on ball pressure as well. You can't press as well with only 2 guards.

They gave up 80 to a Harvard team without Seth Towns, not exactly the defensive showing I was expecting after reading posts like this.
I think Harvard's offensive efficiency #'s could be Top 30 nationally per KP. The problem is TA could easily blow it with his patented lineup blunders. Especially early in the year. Harvard has the potential to have an elite offense. One of the best. Problem is Harvard is setting themselves up to get crushed on the boards regardless of chosen lineup. I am one of the very few that thinks with Towns this team could be very special. Even without him they go legit nine deep. Look for Harvard to peek later in the year as with all IL teams summer basketball workouts are minimal in comparison to BCS and others.

Are these essentially just glorified practices vs D1 competition? Im wondering about these secret scrimmages if they have an “All Star” game atmosphere and guys don’t really play hard on D. That may explain our 86 points scored and the 80 given up. I just say that because I don’t know how formal they actually are, like does each team have the same amount of time outs like they do in regular games? Or can coaches stop play at random for teaching moments? Either way, Im not sure how much you can take from this, but its probably a lot better than losing to Providence by 30 at Mohegan like we did a few years ago.

One of his best qualities is his intangibles. He hit 2 game winners on the AAU circuit and a game winner in the state playoffs his senior year. He does struggle a little with separation, he’s not the shiftiest kid a lot of the shots he makes are with limited space, he also has a little bit of trouble with his left. But he can score, he can shoot, he can really pass the ball well, nice transition game. I think we can expect something along the lines of Jalen Adams freshman year, 22 minutes and 7 points a game, if he stays healthy.

The level of play is legit- they’re definitely playing defense. But, they can play for what ends up being more than 40 minutes. Coaches also agree ahead of time about how they’re going to handle stoppages for instruction or to set up specific scenarios.

Wheres it say that? Am i missing something? Maybe ignored a poster by accident? I've done that before to @BFieldHusky

Yeah I quoted another poster that said Vital was efficient. I wouldn't call it an awful day by any stretch, but 41% doesn't really scream "efficiency" to me either.

Nice showing from Whaley

That’s encouraging. If Whaley performs like that than our front court becomes a positive for us. With Bouk out and looking at a possible extended suspension our situation on the wing becomes the biggest question mark with Sid the only true wing available.

I meant where are you getting the 41%. Only tweet I see doesn't say vital's shooting %

Dont be a about the other perspective. I’m putting the ball in Alterique’s hands at the end of the game.

Of course you are lol he’s the point guard. The PG is getting the ball on a final possession 98% of the time in college.

Vital is still the best player on the team and it’s not really close.

Probably to practice first. Not game conditions. Just a guess mind you
That’s the point I was trying to make. He wasn’t back in time for the scrimmage.

Matchup dependent but if we’re going to be starting Polley and Akok together we will probably be playing a lot of zone I imagine.

Not even close? Okay dude. Let us see what happens this season.

Yes he's a good player. But it's really hard to call someone 'the best player' when they cannot create their own shot.
On a good team, maybe. But nobody on this team can create their own shot and that's the biggest issue
