Schedule PC

Agree, whatever elusive point concealed in your posts went completely passed me - because I read some version of nothing.
Holy cow. It could not have been move clear if it was in bold type and different color !!! I'll give you a hint. I explained my point directly after I wrote:

My point is...

Pee Cee plays in a mid major conference. The new Big East is not a major conference (P5). They don't even sponsor football.

I have no problem with playing the Friars occasionally, but it does us more harm to lose that game than it does them, due to the relative historic statures of the two programs. It would make more sense for us to schedule URI.
Makes sense to add both to the mix. Now we just need to staged a fight at Shrine to hype the URI game.

Think you are overmatched and your bus pass to the minor leagues is in the mail.

That would give us 3 or 4 interesting OOC home games each year - add in an 2 OOC national teams - and you have a good plan.
A counter factor is we have to just play the cupcakes at home and give them a payday but now that our average attendance is maybe 8k - it may make more sense to charge more and get 15k fans for XL.
your sarcasm detector is malfunctioning. Guapo's post was funny. UConnNick, your an idiot if you think URI is a better OOC opponent. We play them every year, as well as UMass, BC, Vermont, NH, and Maine. So I know what I'm talking about. Cooley has never lost to URI

You apparently don't want to debate the any longer, I see. In that case, your opinion means as much to me as your bus pass.

Wow, just noticed you have twice as many messages as me and, quite frankly, I don't remember any of them before this thread.

Never said PC was in a major P5 conference, but in a "major BB conference" which I consider the BE to be. It's hard to drum up interest or develop rivals with teams like Tulane, Tulsa, etc whereas PC is a NE school and a former BE rival. Let's bring back that rivalry. It would benefit both teams.

Thanks, Father J.

There's no such thing as "major BB conferences". You're either P5 or mid major, period. It's about the money. We are in a mid major conference. The new Big East has had such pathetic TV ratings its games have occasionally been beaten by women's games in the same time slots. There's nothing "major" about the Big East. Only football matters and they don't have it.

You may think you know what you're talking about but you don't. Historically, URI is a former arch rival of ours from the Yankee Conference era. We have likely played them more often (well over 100 games) than any other opponent. They're also on the upswing and garnering national attention with Hurley there. I believe they also made a nice NCAA run last season. I couldn't care less how many times Cooley has beaten them.

I didn't indicate we shouldn't play you. I have no problem with that, but it does us little good to win the game. We have more in common with URI, a flagship state university in very close proximity that used to be our main rival, vs. a small catholic college which was a big part of the reason why we now find ourseleves in a mid major conference, thanks to the PC mafia conference administration that ran the old Big East into oblivion by favoring the small catholic BB schools over the football schools. We do you a favor by playing you. It helps legitimize your program and does little for us. It doesn't do us much good if we win because we're expected to. 4 > 0 and all. You're perhaps presently equal with URI, no better or worse, in terms of national stature.

And you have almost 3,000 posts on another team's fan message board and I'm the idiot? That makes it look to me like you've got an obsession with us.

i know i’m prob in the minority but i LOVE the posts from chief. the reaction of all the other arm chair jockeys on here is priceless
You're not alone it's downright amusing how he plays these guys and gets them legit angry. I'm 100% positive stair master gets notifications every time he posts and Chief couldn't give less of an F

So your logic is don't schedule a BB game unless that school also has a football team or is it don't schedule them if losing that game could harm our image. I have no problem playing URI, but why you want to exclude PC because you don't like the new BE is strange.
I guess we should not play G/town or Nova either.

okay you have more in common with URI, you are right. How has it been working out recently for these schools? Pretending PC is not there because that may "legitimize" them is not working out so great on a few fronts, you might want to rethink your strategy because as I have tried to say multiple times on this thread and am ignored apparently by the money grows on trees crowd. Filling your arena for OOC games is important when you are in the AAC.

Idiot, hater, both? who knows but your circling right around those. Based upon your tag line we should probably add delusional as well.

Quite frankly, I would like both URI and PC to be in the schedule mix. Someone would rather watch Tulane, UCF or East Carolina?

But it's really about PC and URI vs cupcakes on our current schedule.

About ready to head to Storrs - excited about both MBB and football!

We can petition the AAC to remove Tulane and Tulsa, but I think there may be issues there.

When Fox decides that Providence/UConn merits the big channel, the game has a chance. Until then, it'll be home and homes against Nova, Georgetown, etc.

That's a bit of a problem as ESPN would have to like it as well in order for it to be home and homes. Also how do you know Fox doesn't see merit in it. The ball is in Ollie's court regarding this in my eyes. I'm certain Fox would be on board. The UConn folks would have to work with ESPN and from what I understand UConn has no desire to play based upon what I know.

I will give you an example of how this is really on the staffs here. Seattle University is program I'm close to and for years we heard how the WCC teams would not play us because of recruiting in the area this includes Gonzaga and others, we were also told WSU doesn't want to play us. UW was willing to play every year with rotating venue because of Cameron Dollar's and Romar's relationship. Well new coach in now and we have 3 WCC games, WSU on the schedule as well as keeping UW. Gonzaga will be on it soon as well. So all the stuff we heard was bunk, it's on the staff.

My original post was sarcastic, but it got me thinking; why not have a "MSG Imvitational" or something hosted by UConn, Cuse and Georgetown and invite a 4th random team every year and/or a New England thing with UConn, PC, bcu, and a rotating Yankee conference school? Play it in Boston. Just a thought.

How many games did Providence have on Fox last year?

They get 1 or 2 each year but not an OOC opponent. I'm unsure of exactly how many BE games were on regular Fox with an OOC opponent, my initial guess is none. CBS might be the way to go if this were to happen. FS1 would be easy but I doubt UConn sees value in that.

That's the rub.

I think ESPN is easy. They have seven nights and two major channels - Fox really has just has one afternoon a week for games. I know television played a huge role in both the Georgetown and Nova series - the return game at each was contracted for Fox.

When Fox thinks they can put that game on at noon on a Saturday, the series will happen. My guess is that sometime next year, as with the Nova announcement, there'll be another series set up against a Big East team. My guess would be St. John's or Providence, with St. John's being the more likely of the two.

Is this based on anything or just a gut feeling?

When Providence was good they would never play UConn. Why is this even a thing?

The 49 yo UConn fan interviewing him feels differently. Give it a listen.

I remember the 60s and 70s - only time UConn got on the floor with PC was in the NIT/NCAA
UConn was dying to play PC but PC stuck their nose in the air
Payback is a b*tch
I feel we owe that school squat - screw regionalism - let's go back and play an old Yankee Conference foe - URI

Some of us are older and wiser than the 49yo UConn fan

Yep, keep playing bums to a half empty arena. Another sound business decision.

UConn will play only one BE team per years. Last two years it was Georgetown. Next two years it's Villanova.
Perhaps in 2020 PC might be scheduled.Ollie has mentioned PC & Seton Hall as possibilities in an interview a few years ago.
