Glad to see Sonia Citron on the list. My favorite player on the Irish. Not flashy, very good in all phases of the game. Sharp basketball mind. Will definitely be playing pro somewhere.
Love Citron myself (but not in Green). Somewhat like Sarah in that she just goes about her business with no fanfare, and facial expression never changes, much less smiles

Booker is likely to win it although I'd take Strong over the other finalists any day of the week........
I don’t know. Citron is a strong candidate and the only senior of the group, which may or may not count for some votes.
You guys drinkin'?

Sarah is "The Natural"- conceived at mid-court, right in the jump ball center circle.

That's her award. -)

Sarah is averaging more points, rebounds, and assists, than Booker. AND Sarah has a better shooting percentage than Booker as well.

Also Pierre was good enough to be a finalist for this award, but was snubbed for any all SEC team?

I believe Booker is likely to be a first-team All-American and if that's the case it would be difficult to not give her this award too.......like I said, I'll take Sara any day, but I have a feeling the voters will stick to the script........as always with my predictions....I'll be very happy to be wrong.....

I would give it to Sarah. But I have already seen some boosts for Texas due to being the number 1 team in the country.

Rori Harmon made the top 5 on the point guard list. I think that is crazy.

How many on this list are actually ’small forwards’? Maybe I’m not sure what a small forward is anymore.

I see that Madison BOOKER has 480 total points, averages 6.5 rb/g, 48 stl, 16ppg
Sarah has 500 total points, 7.9 rb/game, with 73 steals and 16.1 ppg, also 46 blocks.
But consider Khamil Pierre, 6'2", sophomore from Vanderbilt! She has started 29/29 with 602 total points, 9.6 rb/game, 87 steals, and 20.8 PPG with a FG % of 50.7 %!!
Sarah FG% is 35.6 (208/356) for comparison. Then Sonia Citron may get
extra points as the only senior on this list. If Sarah wins more of the FRESHMAN OF
THE YEAR awards, she might not be in the true running for small forward THIS YEAR!

35.6%? That doesn’t sound right.

And the more i think about it, the only SFs appear to be Sonia and Mikayla. Sarah and Khamil look like PFs and Booker looks like an SG.

I think Sarah is totally a small forward. That’s what she will play in the wnba and ideally it would be her best position in college basketball. UConn is a bit thin in the front court and due to that thinness… she has played more power forward and more center this season.

THANKS FOR THE CORRECTION!! I had the right number of
baskets and attempts and then TOOK THE NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS (356)
AS THE % ... IE. 356 ATTEMPTS is not 35.6% If it sounds unlikely... it probably is!!
I should have known better... I just went on automatic pilot. It
is remarkable when you fail to "process" what you are looking at.
It reminds me of my bookkeeping errors!!

Your numbers, my math.
208/356. = 58.4%.
Much obliged for your correction... THANKS! I took the number of attempts
(somehow) as the %: attempts 356 is not 35.6 % FG %
I should slow down and smell Sarah's "rosy" stats!

The coaches nominate the players. So it's whatever the coaches think.

You have a great point about this.

I looked on the LSU website, you know the official LSU Athletic Department website, then drummed down through to the Women's Basketball section, and eventually the Roster; low and behold Mikaylah Williams is listed by her own team as a 'guard'.

FightingIrish.Com, the official website for Notre Dame, roster section, also lists Sonia Citron as a 'guard'.

The others three are all at least listed as 'forwards' by their own team's official publications.

The coaches nominate the players. So it's whatever the coaches think.
Does Niele Ivey nominate her player, Citron? Kim Mulkey nominates her player, Mikayla Williams? Or is that some kind of a pool of coaches who handle the "Cheryl Miller Award" selection committee that nominates those players?

Either way, in my view Bone Dog is correct, some of these players are not forwards. At least according to the athletic departments at their respective universities they are not.

No kidding. But it still makes you wonder. I mean, the coaches are interested in getting an award for their kids as much as reflecting the accuracy of some aging position designation.

My understanding is the players are nominated by their own coaches. So yes, Mulkey nominated Williams.

Gabby won this award a few years back.
