What about Ross?I highly doubt Karaban will leave. So we're looking at Karaban, Samson, Diarra, Ball, Stewart, Singare, Nowell, Abraham. Not sure on The Greek.

90s are too far back for me. The Dyson and Hasheem team was the one I was referring to. I don’t think you’re bringing in transfers over guys who were scoring 15 PPG either with Rip and Caron anyways. There were these guys named Rip Hamilton, Kevin Freeman, and Jake Voskuhl who played at UConn.
There was also this guy Caron Butler and his buddy Taliek Brown who played at UConn.
There was also these guys Jerome Dyson, Hasheem Thabeet, Marcus Johnson, Stanley Robinson, Curtis Kelly, Doug Wiggins.
I don't know why you create these wild arguments. Of course we've had freshmen who contributed greatly under Calhoun and under Hurley and of course most of them got better as sophomores.
Solo although he hasn't shot it well yet has definitely earned playing time. I think Stewart will continue to improve and see a few minutes regularly. We knew Singare was a project and Ross wasn't projected to see much time year one. And of course Castle is a stud so the freshman are probably performing as expected. I'm still pretty high on this class and we weren't going to play a rotation of more than 8 maybe 9You know, Samson didn't "wait his turn." He was injured and unable to play which led to him losing his spot in the rotation.
The so called Fab Five are all healthy. They have to opportunity to win playing time but none (Castle excepted) has done so. Solo is merely a place holder for the injured Castle. It unlikely any will wait their turn if they are healthy and sit for two years.

I’m pulling from the middle tier here on experienced teams, but you can’t tell me any of Hurley’s freshmen have played fearless like these guys. Again, there’s way better examples to pull from too outside of these two. But that’s how Calhoun coached them to play. And they were better off for it.
You can say something about every UConn freshmen for Calhoun that played well.I seriously have no idea what you're talking about. Our best freshman has been out with injury, our freshman who replaced him in the starting lineup has the green light and just shot 8 threes last game. A freshman led us in minutes last year and our other freshman last year backed up the best big in the country and was hugely important to UConn winning the title. Bouknight averaged 26 minutes as a freshman despite being wildly immature and getting in major trouble off the court. Akok averaged 28 minutes per game as a freshman, Gaffney 19 minutes per game. Sanogo got 17 minutes per game, I thought it should've been bumped up to around 20 minutes per game but whatever. Jackson got 16 minutes per game. Hawkins got 15 minutes per game. Neither of them were ready and they were still thrown into the fire, they would've gotten more minutes if they didn't get dinged up.
Marcus Williams averaged 14 minutes per game and 3 ppg as a frosh before having to sit out. Why on earth are you posting a highlight film of him? He's the best and most creative passer in UConn history, of course we haven't had another player who plays like him. Same goes for Boat, we haven't had another 5'10 jumping jack off the bounce iso player like him.
Nah, he was playing better than Taliek as a freshman. His flunking off saved JC from making a tough decision.Marcus Williams
That’s an issue if he can’t make mistakes on drives to the rim the same way he makes mistakes shooting 3s. Complete waste of his athletic talent.Hurley wants Solo to shoot those shots, he’d pull him out if he didn’t. It’d be nice if he was making more for sure. If he passed on an open one for a drive that ended in a turnover then he’d probably get pulled.
No, I wouldn't say any of that. You can say something about every UConn freshmen for Calhoun that played well.
You’d say Rashad was the best 3 point shooter, Kemba was the most electric, Bazz crafty, etc. etc.
We should be calling Solo one of the best athletes but we’re not because he only has the green light to shoot 3s all day instead of showcasing that. We should’ve been calling Hawkins one of the best shooters like Rashad his freshman year.
Things work themselves out once guys have bigger roles to play more freely, but I do miss watching freshman consistently come in ready to make plays.
Jackson was able to be valuable by defense and distributing but he was not an offensive threat going to the rim either since they sagged off so much. For a G/F to be successful in Hurleys offense they have to be able to shoot the three and drive. It’s way too early to put him in a Jackson role in this offense. That’s an issue if he can’t make mistakes on drives to the rim the same way he makes mistakes shooting 3s. Complete waste of his athletic talent.
That’s superweird you would go that far. I don’t know why you have to go to these insane insults when we’re just talking basketball. I’ve never said anything rude to you but if I matched your energy I’d for sure be the bigger which is super unnecessary. No, I wouldn't say any of that.
I'm sorry I ever even responded to you. This is a masturbatory exercise for you and I'll leave you alone.
It wasn't an insult and there's nothing weird about it. You create these wild arguments, hammering over and over at them for days on end and nobody ever agrees with you. It's self-absorbed and pointless. That’s superweird you would go that far. I don’t know why you have to go to these insane insults when we’re just talking basketball. Just say you disagree and leave it at that stop being weird.
Classics never get oldThe best thing about freshman, they become sophomores
C'mon superjohn, grow up. Of course it was meant as an insult. It wasn't an insult
I don’t mind a lot of the jokes if it’s funny. Masturbatory exercise is weird though. It wasn't an insult and there's nothing weird about it. You create these wild arguments, hammering over and over at them for days on end and nobody ever agrees with you. It's self-absorbed and pointless.
You really shouldn't be thin skinned when this is the board persona you created.

I’ve WFH the past few days with extra time on my hands for this round. Just passionate about UConn basketball and seeing our guys succeed is all. So I get super frustrated when a situation like Solo’s is going on, the same way I was frustrated with Hawkins his freshman year, and Andre from last year. All situations that seem fixable with a little coaching adjustment instead of doing the same thing over again expecting a different result.
I probably said this before, but there’s a difference between chewing a guy out like Calhoun did with Boatright and letting him fix his mistake compared to pulling him from a game limiting his minutes like Hurley used to do with Hawkins. It's just not clear to me what I would look at to see some evidence that Hurley is mishandling the freshmen relative to Calhoun. And the world you're describing under Jim Calhoun is one that bears no resemblance whatsoever to my memory of it. The idea that Calhoun emboldened freshmen and "let them make mistakes" while Hurley is some rigid taskmaster that forces them to play timid is, to me, just completely disconnected from reality. That's what I find strange about all this.
Also, just as an aside, it is wild to invoke Hawkins's freshman year as a "fixable" problem Hurley created rather than an instance of a kid just getting much better while at UConn than he was when he got here. Just a very strange way to look at things.

I talk about that Auburn game all the time as the prime example. It killed Hawkins confidence not because of the mistakes, but because how Hurley reacted to it. He had 15 minutes in an OT game where he scored 15-16 points. Hurley showed that it didn’t matter how well he was scoring, if you make mistakes I’m not going to let you play through them. Even though not everyone on the team was held to that same standard. So that’s how Hawkins had to operate from there on out. Then everyone was surprised when he absolutely clamped up.
I’m seeing Solo play the same way right now, personally. Playing to not make mistakes because as a freshmen he knows he doesn’t have the same freedom as the older guys.
I don’t know how people see a 6’6 super athletic wing with amazing playmaking ability get drafted in the 2nd round and think that was a good development job. Let alone exceeded expectations. So are you disappointed that Hawkins ended up a lottery pick and Andre exceeded expectations and was drafted early 2nd round?
The outcomes for both seemed pretty good. Their development was excellent under Hurley & Co.'s tutelage.
Why wouldn't you just expect the same to be true for Ball, Stewart, & Ross???? Have some patience, chill out and trust the darn process.
You'll be less stressed, and less attacked for your somewhat unrealistic and borderline crazy takes!
Peace out and go Huskies!!!
A college coaches job boils down to essentially two things - develop your players and win. They're pretty intertwined but not always.I don’t know how people see a 6’6 super athletic wing with amazing playmaking ability get drafted in the 2nd round and think that was a good development job. We didn’t give him not one skill he could use to score with in 3 years.
Hawkins skillset fits the develop your 3 mindset over everything else this program has.
Where is this even coming from. I was at a game where Okwandu made a mistake Calhoun practically dragged him off the court and screamed at him to "Go back to Africa"I probably said this before, but there’s a difference between chewing a guy out like Calhoun did with Boatright and letting him fix his mistake compared to pulling him from a game limiting his minutes like Hurley used to do with Hawkins.
