Every Ryder Cup the Americans get lectured about decorum yet the Euros act like they won the Masters after every 6 foot putt that halves a hole on the front 9. Not true. Zach gave him data that the captains had about how the hole was playing. He just said in his press conference he would never tell any of the players what club to hit. He was emphatic about it. He would lose all credibility with Spieth and the team if he lied about that after the fact.

I think Zack was just trying to cover his ass in the interview. Spieth didn't want to switch clubs. If Zach didn't come over, he wouldn't have. He looked so uncomfortable standing over the shot. If that was coaching, then I'd rather hit a blind shot into the green!!

Spieth picked the club is the point. It was his mistake.i can't speak on the data he was given by Zach or his caddie. I think we all know he is not a bomber. No idea why he chose 3wood. The announcers assumed about the conversation and everyone just took it as gospel.

If the first 3-4 matches start going the way of the US, then Europe is going to get very tight very quick. I also think the broadcasters bungled the Spieth tee shot on the 16th hole. Zach was telling him he'd be better to lay up to 50 yards and give himself enough yardage to put some loft/spin on the ball from the fairway. Spieth is one of the best wedge players in the game so this was actually good strategy to lay up. Unfortunately Spieth pushed his 3 wood into the water. He was not trying to hit the green, he was aiming at the left bunker he just mishit his shot. Spieth has been pretty brutal for this entire Ryder Cup.

Just curious but what do you mean by dominate singles? The last 5 times it’s been played in Europe the US have lost 4 of 5 single sessions.

Anyone who's actually "watched much Ryder Cup action" realizes US needs 8.5 pts. Which they haven't done this century.

This is a bad take based on the past 25 years of Ryder Cup competition.

I'm calling 7-5 Euros today, but could be more. Even if the US wins 3 of the first 4 matches, the back half of the US roster is mostly not playing well and can be taken by the back half of the Euro roster.

It was pointed out that the players do get some compensation for this. A portion of the revenues of the event goes to the PGA players retirement funds. Their contracts with equipment suppliers and other sponsors typically have bonuses if you make the team. If the pga tour further pays for making the team, it brings up issue on eliminating the captain's picks. There is already resentment that they are too clubby now. i.e., you make the team because you are Scottie's buddy. Think they would have to go strictly on the merit or point system. On the Rory thing.. He was pissed about LaCava continuing to jaw at him while he was lining up his putt. He wasn't pissed at Bones. LaCava was out of camera shot in the parking lot.
