Raw deal?? How? If he can't play and contribute @ this level then whose fault it that exactly?

Roscoe was a major contributor to the 2010-2011 National Championship team. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous. The Drummond + Oriahki front court experiment didn't work and Roscoe lost minutes because of it.

Funny you should bring it up - I just got one!

I really liked Roscoe. I think he got a raw deal his second year, so I can't blame him for transferring. Hopefully he has a great year for the Rebels.

Raw deal? Maybe but who knows. Problem with Roscoe was at the time he was the perfect "complimentary" player for the team as a frsoh. He played good defense, rebounded the ball a little and made some tough put backs. With a guy like Kemba going whacky all the little things that he did were perfect for a freshman to carve out minutes. Problem the next year is he came back the same player, no Kemba and they needed him to put the ball on the floor and be a bigger part of the offense, and he couldn't do that. He never shot it as well as advertised which hurt him and he just had not shot of taking anyone off the dribble while being an awful passer (who couldn't read a clock LOL). We all know JC was a stubborn bastard and if he happened to be falling in to the Alex syndrome that would also have hurt his efforts for minutes because JC was not having that crap. That's only speculation but something happened and we'll never know. No matter, he should have stayed a Husky and never left and battled for his minutes instead of quitting. I like Roscoe and hope he does well at UNLV also but really don't need to follow him!

That Iowa State game in the tourney was the perfect example of how valuable Roscoe was. Royce White made Drummond and Oriakhi look bad, and it wasn't until we were down big and the game was all but out of reach that we put Roscoe on him, and the bleeding stopped. Roscoe was a terrific defender, and if we play him on White from the start, we have a decent shot of winning that game.

I love Scoe and only wish him the best- he played 110% every time he hit the floor-

At the 3. He wanted to play the 3, not the 4. He can't, he has a terrible offensive game.

Who said he could make the league?? Haha, no way.

idiotic comment. Roscoe was a very good player for us. we are worse off not having him.

he is a gritty player with a ton of heart and a great chemistry guy. i'm convinced his black eye helped catalyze our championship run.

Yes, ur comment is idiotic. He can't play the 3.

Does anyone have the scoop on what actually happened with Roscoe? Coz, I gotta say, I am still totally befuddled by his leaving. After the NCAA imposed the post season ban on us & Alex made it clear that he was not going to be at UCONN for his senior season, I asked Roscoe, point blank, if he was also leaving. He was pretty darned adamant about staying. Then, 2 weeks later, it was announced that he was going to play for UNLV. I was shocked. The last time I saw him, he looked like he'd lost his best friend & then he was gone. I miss the guy!

Roscoe was an extremely likable player, and a crucial piece of that national championship team. He played incredibly well that tourney and did everything the team needed from him. I always thought he should have focused on being a good power forward, he could have done something like what Deandre has done at the 4, only with 12 footers instead of 3s. No idea why things went south the way they did for Roscoe after the championship, but I hope he succeeds.

Basketball fans seem to always vastly underrate defense when it comes to evaluating players. Roscoe was a great defender, did a lot of glue type things and always played hard. In a way he reminded me of one of my favorite Knicks, Charles Oakley.

I really wish Roscoe hadn't left, but I don't hold it against him. With everything going on around the program and how he was jerked around his sophomore year I can't blame him.

As others mentioned, Bazz, Boat, Lamb, Roscoe and Drummond was our best lineup, and it's a shame we never saw more of it. That team had so much more potential than the first round exit against Iowa State.

Best of luck to Roscoe, I just wish he was still a husky!

He is 6-8, athletic, defends, and plays hard. Plus he still has two more years to develop. I wouldn't say making it to the league isn't out of the question...

It is possible that Roscoe thought it was merely a formality for him to be allowed to play for UNLV last year (remember AO's request was quickly approved). Last year UNLV had Anthony Bennett at the 4, as well as Khem Birch, so it may have seemed to Roscoe (and perhaps sold by Coach Rose) that he would be given playing time to develop at the 3. Fast forward a year and UNLV is very thin on the inside (in addition to having very weak PG play) and it seems that he is stuck at the 4.
I am grateful for Roscoe's contribution to the 2011 NC and hope things work out for him.

I get a kick out of the "jerked around" thing? So if you win a ring the year prior you should still play 25-30 minutes if you play crappy?

I realize wha he did the year before but none of that was there for the follwong season in case anyone would like to recall. If anything he regressed and was moping a little wanting to be a 3 of which he had zero shot......

Love the freshman Roscoe but let's not compare the 2. It's not jerked around if you don't earn the time. Not sure who he should have played more than.......although I would agree if you said he could have at least taken Ao's minutes!! LOL.....

Problem is he's probably 6-7 at best and can't shoot or handle it, as of 2 years ago. I hope he really improves but this would have to be leaps and bounds to make it to the next level. Nice player and I'm sure UNLV will better for it but nothing pointed to NBA while here. Never know as he was a young kid!

You don't think a starter from a national championship team should be given the benefit of the doubt to get out of a slow start to the season?

We all saw what he contributed in 2011 and we saw his impact towards the end of the season when they finally played him the minutes he deserved.

Look, you def earn your time in practice and how you perform in the games, but I think Roscoe earned the benefit of the doubt and the fact he wasn't was only exacerbated by the fact that some players (Alex) could seemingly do no wrong.

I agree I just felt like there should be no need for someone to 150% think its out of the question. I hope for the best for him

I actually had the pleasure of meeting Roscoe once. He's a very likable and respectful kid - I'm rooting for him 100%.

@MikeGrimala: Per Dave Rice, starting five for tomorrow set to be Deville Smith, Kevin Olekaibe, Jelan Kendrick, Roscoe Smith and Carlos Lopez-Sosa
