The phrase "darkened place" can be interpreted as mindset too. We have absolutely no idea what the players are going through and after reading Carter's post this year, I'm leery in putting it all on Jackson.

It also could be a play on words as I recall someone posted there was a video made by a fan referring to Jackson as a "Dark Cloud Gone". I would consider that inflammatory as well.

Here's the way I see it, she endured 3 head coaches in 3 years and 2 of those changes occurred suddenly and unexpectedly. The roster of the team she joined looks completely different in year 3 with all the transfers. She has been considered the star of the team and sometimes other players get jealous, especially when you add a lot of new pieces to a team and the jealously might not result into a happy team.

I'll never fault a player for leaving if they're not in a good place mentally. We saw what happened with Jessika Carter off the court and it's in everyone best interests that she prevents herself from being in a similar situation.

Maybe I'm sensitive to this issue because right now South Carolina is mourning the death of a former collegiate track athlete/Miss USA winner/attorney/ TV correspondent in Chelsie Kryst who appeared to be on top of the world but took her own life this week. I think it's important that we don't take it lightly when people say that a certain environment isn't good for them mentally because you don't know where it may lead.

This was my takeaway too. I dont know for sure, but I dont think it was directed at Mississippi State as much as it was explaining Rickea's experience there.

I get this as well. Rickea seemed like she loved MSU, she easily could have left the minute Vic bolted for Texas but she stayed (she played 3 seasons at MSU). She could have gone to almost any program in the country, she was a top 10 recruit for a reason. The program has been through a lot over the last few years, lots of changes in coaches, the pandemic, off the court drama with Carter, etc.

She didn't seem very happy to me (as someone who watched her body language) towards the end. I think she really tried but thought a change would probably be in the best interest for her. I don't think she ever got much better since her freshmen season but going through all these coaching changes, COVID and battling things mentally definitely took a toll.

Hopefully she can find a place where she will be happy and in a better place mentally.
 
What worries me most, is with all the "social media platforms" that only adds to the scrutiny and dissection of every action while encouraging interaction with the public on social forums, I think contributes to this "pressure/stress/anxiety" while not letting an scholar-athlete be a college kid. Heck, all of our scrutiny is excessive on almost all occasions and our interactions are only between fans of teams.

Frankly, athletic departments do need to employ full time psychologists to ensure the health and wellbeing of the students and aid them navigating these pressures. Whether they should also have "parent counseling" can be debated as well!

Best of luck to her. Now how do we get counseling for all the fans on the platforms and forums who clearly take "fandom" too far?

I understand what you are saying. Although ironic that I’m posting this on a form of social media but given the circumstances R Jackson would be best served by stepping away for a while. Further, it would be advisable for her mother to encourage her to step away and step away herself instead of posting about it on social media. Although I understand both individuals being upset over what is being said Rickea is basically duplicating what she sees her mother doing. Neither is going to change some idiot’s mind and no amount of social media back and forth is going to help. This type of behavior has been happening forever. If this were taking place in the 90s sports talk radio and call in shows would be the platform. It is a sad situation and what should be a fairly minor deal has spiraled out of control.

I don't know about that. Maybe 2nd place SEC, SEC tournament runner up, and a good shot at an elite 8.

Actually it was but they said something about her dismissal being because of her attitude. They had enough players with that problem

Is she better than the senior who graduated last season from Tennessee and went to the WNBA? I don't remember her name. She played with Horston for two years and Tennessee did not win the NC or even the SEC Tournament championship. Why would this be different?

Believe you're referring to Rennia Davis. Is she better? Not sure if it's even fair to try and compare their styles.

MSU is in the country so they might not have a lot of streetlights.
 
The writer must have had a word count cuz that part about loyalty is nonsense. The situation changed at Miss St. RJ didn't immediately leave but ultimately did. Whatever her reasoning, it was hers to make and the transfer portal now gives college kids this opportunity. I think that is a good thing. However, staying for an extra year before leaving doesn't show loyalty.
