My comments were limited to ST J's . They have attempted 654 FTs for the season. UConn has attempted 453 FTs. Mullins having gone to the line 16 times. FYI- These numbers were provided by AI Bot/ESPN

Agree, UConn’s offense doesn’t draw a lot of fouls because they of the way they run it.
But Pitino was commenting on UConn’s defense being too aggressive and prone to fouling. What a convenient and self serving narrative for him to say Uconn just fouls too much.
When coaches are asked about other teams, they usually comment about things like toughness, depth, shooting, passing, rebounding, physicality, etc. Was he even asked about Uconn’s weaknesses?
 
He's not wrong and he's further cementing the narrative for officials

the reason we will have problems with them all year is that they take it to hoop (and get fouled) while we are coming off screens for 3's, and most of fouls are off ball/uncalled...He rotated guys to nuisance our PG who is waiting for our action to unfold.

The end of the recent St John's vs Xavier game somehow had Xavier with the same we problem we had and they were driving the ball more. Calls were automatic when St John's drove for some reason. Not so for Xavier.

What a troll! It is completely beneath someone of his accomplishments to be commenting on other teams issues. He knows his team can’t win unless he mucks it up and this is all just another attempt to set up the referees to call the game that suits their wrestling style of basketball. That said, the only way to shut him up is to beat him.

Dan has managed to piss off the entire reffing community. But, to be honest, it isn't as bad as last year. And our fouling issue isn't how much WE get called as much as it is how little our opponents get called for. If anyone thinks that the refs don't have a bias against Hurley, they either aren't paying attention or they don't want it to be true. And the easiest way for refs to control a game is to not call fouls on one team. No one replays every second of a game to look for non-calls. They look at the foul calls. And, given how much fouling, by the book, actually happens, most called fouls ARE actual fouls. Those aren't the issue. The non-calls are what kills us. You WILL miss a lot of shots and turn the ball over a lot if you are being fouled.

You might be correct and I hope you are. The best way to deal with the refs is to dominate the game. They will only try to influence a close game.

Off-ball fouls are as egregious as on-ball fouls. At least that's what the RULE BOOK says.
 


We would be unbeatable if we got a fair whistle. Look at where we are on this chart compared to every other top 10 team (aside from Houston)
 
Pitino's not really trolling, coaches saying UConn fouls alot under Hurley has been a thing for awhile, just usually said anonymously. Don't understood why our beat writers have never really asked Hurley about it but they're mostly useless.

This was the McDermott school of defense with Kalk. I feel like they never fouled.

A lot of the top teams up on the front end, then us way in the back with Houston, Nebraska and Purdue.
 
Hurley spends a ton of time on the refs. I’d say at least 40% of his attention is on the refs, unless it’s a blowout. So I guess the question is would more fouls get called on us if he didn’t pay so much attention to the refs?
 
St. John's has improved a great deal since falling to 9-5 with that ugly loss to Providence. I'm impressed. I thought the season was in danger of being lost at that point, but they have truly righted the ship, and a win over UConn should ensure a top 4 seed as long as they have no WTF losses moving forward.
