Requiem for the Big East

They bring in Jim Calhoun, but only to memorialize the league and all the other coaches -- not to say a god damn thing about UConn.

Has there been a single shot of us playing basketball?

They just showed Syracuse's 2003 title.

No mention of UConn in the 90s-2011.

Right from the 80s to football destroying the league.

We don't exist.

and this Jim Calhoun guy is just some reporter talking, they talked about coaches with toughness but don't talk about JC or show any clips or pics of him

.-.
I thought we would hear more about

The next significant event in the Big East was Marinatto's forced resignation on May 7, 2012. According to one league source, "He was the human pin cushion. Nobody in the world could have made this work. Look at the things he was dealt." McMurphy remarked that Marinatto "was set up to fail by the league's presidents because they handcuffed his ability to make any relevant changes."

from the Wikipedia. Instead it's a summary thrown in at the end for tragic appeal.

They showed clips of us when talking about the tv scheduling rules the conference had.

No. Only breaking our pre-game huddle when they talked about how terrible UConn and providence teams got better because we stole money and tv time from Syracuse.

Jay Bilas just talked about us vs Syracuse in 6OTs in a 30 second spot. That's about 15x the amount of coverage we have gotten in this 2 hr documentary.

In reality, this isn't about the specific results of the Big East on the floor, but the conference as a whole and the changes that occurred. As bad as it is, UConn has not been an integral part of the actual changes in the conference since we've never moved out of it.

Well, there's a UConn mention sort of... Ray Allen comes through in clutch for the slumping Heat.

Yeah we got lumped in with the other bad schools who got better. Providence and Seton Hall. Because obviously the schools were so similar.

do they wanna bring up the fact that a BE team won the NCAA tournament in 2011 and 2013

The story they went with was it all started going downhill at the time UConn started dominating (which hasn't even been mentioned).
Fine. So we weren't part of your little clubhouse in the '80s. That didn't seem to get in the way of those three championships.

but won't mention that the BE was still deeper then the ACC after the original big east raid, and that includes football to a degree

So far, the 2013 BET (no UConn), and a nostalgia trip for Providence in the 70's. Let's see how much airtime we get. My guess, maybe 60 seconds out of the 45 minute running time.

There is a reason for that. Late in the program they made it clear that the BE killed itself by turning down ESPN's offer.

I also found out that beyond being one of the names they showed as an original member, we really weren't part of the conference.

It was okay up until Georgetown and Syracuse started sucking each other off at the end. Almost vomited.

Thanks for the 2 hour Syracuse and Georgetown circle jerk ESPN!

Exactly. This was bait and switch or at least an incorrectly titled documentary. It was about the original coaches back in the 80s, mostly Syracuse and Hoyas. The BE was only a sideshow to explain why the rivalry ceased.

I'm not all that upset at not showing UConn hoops highlights, but in the narrative ESPN presented, I am surprised there was no mention of UConn being told to build a football stadium and everything would be peaches.

I expected to see very little of UConn but there was absolutely nothing aside from a few 15 second snippets of Calhoun talking about how tough Thompson and Boeheim are, I don't even think they ever mentioned Jim Calhoun by name so it could have just been some reporter from Boston who mumbles.

That angle apparently wasn't interesting. Neither was the 9th best team going on to win 3 National Titles.
