Reibe in the portal

I found him to be a miss of a recruit from the start. Lot's of chatter early around him having a nice jump shot - not sure that is ever priority for any 5, nevermind a Uconn 5. Maybe he wants to go somewhere he can play more of a stretch role.

He had some really nice games early, then tapered off drastically towards the end of the year. Some of the fouling he was doing was borderline lazy, like he didn't care. The kid was averaging a foul a minute at times.

Best of luck - let's hope we land someone really good, it's a vital position. If we now have to go into next year a new big and PG, that is a tough place to start.
Silas isn’t going anywhere

Are there any bigs still uncommitted in the class of 2026? If he were to leave would we want two bigs from the portal or one from the portal and one from the high school ranks?

Yeah, as I said in the other post. He probably needs to step down a level if he wants to start. It seems like his family is trying to get to get more playing time(if the rumors we heard were true) which he would of got this year if he stayed even if still a backup. No way he deserved a lot more minutes this year than he got with Reed here if we were serious on winning this year.
I think he will average double figures at a high major next year, fyi

.-.
Wish he stayed but not a surprise based on some of the things he’s said about playing time and things Hurley had said. Wish him well!

Oof.

I actually was not expecting that.
I was. Kid didn't even look happy down in Indianapolis and he was concerned with playing time all season. Bye bye.

He gave us some great minutes early in the season but he was far from the "I'm a Husky" guy the staff thought they were bringing in. He knew the deal with minutes coming in, it shouldn't have been surprising to him.

.-.
I'd like to know after all said done how many kids who enter the portal just to test the waters end up going back to their original school. He might just be seeing if there's more money in a guarantee of more plan time somewhere else if he's leaving, I'm hoping he's going to BC.

Plenty do in football. I bet some do at least in basketball.

I'm more curious how many kids transfer out looking for greener pastures and end up with no scholarship offers. UConn level players will obviously end up somewhere. But a mid or low major guy?

I mean there was no way he was playing big minutes over Tarris Reed. Tarris graduating obviously opens up a lot of minutes.

I don't think so either, but who knows. Will be an interesting year now because for the first time, we will be starting two first year transfer at multiple roles.

No, really thin class.

I think he wants to face hoop, become Dirk. IMO dont think we were going to give him him that freedom. We like 2 headed center monster rotation as well. I think Reibe is gonna be real good.
Can I modify that? I think he’s going to be real good offensively. Good instincts, good hands, good touch. Is he going to play defense and rebound good enough to be a starter on a ranked team? We’ll see.

Maybe he if doesn't mind going down a level to a lower level team in a power conference. He isn't getting starter minutes for most of the top teams in the country from what we saw as a Freshman unless he puts on a ton of muscle.

Everyone assumed playing time, but the word I saw used was usage.

I thought at the time I saw that, he ( and/or his family) views himself a euro center out on the perimeter. He sees how we employ our 5's down in the low block and that's not him. You see his lack of rebounding, which is want to, as well. I think this is clearly the reason.

From what I remember, there's been some the family about playing time. If you can go somewhere, make some money and get to play more often. I wish him luck. I really hoped that he stayed though.
It is kind of hilarious to juxtapose his family's comments (if true) with Reed's tournament performance though lmao. Egg on the face

I'd like to believe that some programs do that, however the NCAA regulations say that a program/coach has no requirement to take you back. 😥

That’s what I was thinking too. The opportunity for big minutes here should be a nice drawing card and potentially offset some differences in NIL. A kid could come here and play 28-32 minutes a game if they shine.

Hope he does well at his next school. Not shocked based on the smoke and sound bites the last two months of the season. But don’t see this as a loss. Idk what he was expecting. I’m sure the pitch was play meaningful minutes as a backup freshman year and if you deliver you’re a focal point your second year. You got meaningful minutes, and really struggled the second half of the year. If he’s upset we’re looking at people to compete with him, best for all parties involved to move on.

Hurley told him that he'd be recruiting a starting big over him. It sucks, but we can find a comparable back up big.
Is that verified or just speculation? (If the latter, not unreasonable, but I prefer to be clear about which this is.)

While I still find it difficult to believe that four years has passed since the near nuclear meltdown of this site once we lost Floyd, Gaffney & Diggins, hopefully those here are aware enough to realize our program isn't going to sit on its thumb and say "oh well" when players leave.

Some here may also want to consider the possibility that nearly every departure in the portal era was a mutual decision.

I have a strong suspicion that we will recover from any player leaving the program through the transfer portal.

Maybe a power conference but not at one the top schools like Kentucky, North Carolina, Duke, Michigan, Michigan State. More like an Arizonia state, California or Minnesota guy.
