Reibe in the portal

I'm not surprised. Thanks for all he did early in the early season to get us to where we were. My guess is he and his camp wanted starter's minutes that the staff would not promise. My opinion - his best chance at developing was to stay, but clearly he thinks differently

Yeah. There were rumblings all season long. Didn't make sense -- was the staff supposed to bench Reed? -- but that's the era we live in. I guess the staff wouldn't offer him the starting role and I also guess he wants to see what his NIL value is on the open market. Again, the era we live in.

I mean there was no way he was playing big minutes over Tarris Reed. Tarris graduating obviously opens up a lot of minutes.
If the rumors we heard are true his family felt like he should of played more minutes this year and didn't like how he was being used.

Ouch. That’s upsetting. Most likely means that he was told he wasn’t going to be the clear cut center that gets 25-30+ minutes a game

Thank you to Reibe for holding it down early season when Tarris was injured. He had a lot of moments early on that had me really excited for his future here. But the production tapered off and I guess there was truth to the rumors his camp wasn’t happy

Best of luck Eric. We’re going to have to pay big to get two impact transfer Cs

He's very skilled. Just needs more playing time and to play with anger.

Edit: I think he drop in playing time had less to do with his quality of play and Dan Hurley's less than ideal bench utilization (by his own admission) combined with Reed playing more assertively. Remember how psyched this board was when we signed him?

His playing time and roll seemed to change as the season progressed. Early on he was a good addition, bring points and rebounding to the team. Always loved his potential but the rough Big East impacted his game a lot. He did play well out of conference at times. He is an easy pick-up for the right team that works to his strength. I could see him in double figure scoring as his footwork and tough rim scoring inside are superior. He will be missed.

Really unsurprising, have to imagine this was mutual. Hurley doesn’t tolerate camps like his that constantly complain about PT.

Five years ago, Reibe is our starting center junior or senior year. But that's not how it works anymore. If he moves down, he'll have a great year and move back up again junior year. I wonder if Izzo will continue to be able to keep his developmental players for four years.

No kid can get a promise of playing time. They play the minutes they earn. And if the kid thought he should have played more minutes, he should have played better. Given the elevation of Reed's play, the thought he would play anymore than he did is absurd.

Really disappointing news. He was crucial during the early part of the season, when Reed was hurt, and I was excited to watch him grow.

That being said, the fouling became brutal. At some point after midseason, it felt like he was playing defense with his hands on every possession. I actually think the refs could have been playing more fouls against him. He looked terrible.

And I hate to lose big kid with talent, but if what is rolling around in his head is PT guarantees, auf wiedersehen. What's next, a quota on touches and shots?

This is probably the first transfer we'll have that I absolutely wanted back the next year. There's also literally nothing we could have or should have done to change it. He was unhappy behind one of the best centers in college basketball
And regressed as the season progressed because of it. By the end he was barely playable and looked tapped out.

Who knows what the conversations between the staff and Reibe detailed. But I find it hard to believe that he would have been promised significant minutes freshman year with Reed and Karaban returning. I do think the roster in general needs to be less “euro ball” going forward. We need to get back to having more rim protection, and strong athletic defenders with foot speed on the perimeter.

If he thought he should be eating into Reed's minutes this year, he's delusional.

If he thought he should be granted a starting spot next year regardless of who we bring in, he's not a great cultural fit.

If he thought his offensive skills could be better highlighted in a different system, that's a fair concern and maybe just not an ideal stylistic fit.

For the people stating UConn pushed him out- I think that’s wrong- I believe Reibe was intending to transfer for about two months now- this is a loss- with his size & skill that’s hard to duplicate- obviously he needed to get stronger in the post- but you would think that will come in time- for the team that’s get him I believe they should be thrilled. You cannot force a kid to like a coach/program.

He was basically unplayable for a large stretch of the end of the season. I doubt Hurley & co were comfortable penciling him in as the starter for next year. Going to be tough to find a really good center for next year but you they’ll find some guys that’ll fit what we need.

Someone is getting a player who has shown potential. Really illustrates how unstable the player/school relationship is in the NIL era. He's right on the edge of starting for probably the best coach in NCAA basketball. Instead of pushing himself hes walking away. Feels like a mistake on his part.

I think he wants to face hoop, become Dirk. IMO dont think we were going to give him him that freedom. We like 2 headed center monster rotation as well. I think Reibe is gonna be real good.
He'll be good somewhere else offensively but he's more power forward than center. 6'10.5, 7'1 wingspan, plays soft around the rim and is fairly unathletic.

I do wish we had at least 1 center coming back who already knows the system like we had all these other years.

Yeah, he was probably told that they are looking for a Center who can come in play in the Transfer portal meaning that he would have someone to challenge him for the Center minutes. He doesn't seem to like the challenge of competing an felt he deserved more minutes just based on his skillset. Good kid but obviously not meant for us with our 2 headed monster at Center that Hurley wants to maintain.

Is that Ed Cooley stink again that I smell ?
I sure hope not.
If he ends up back in DC……

Wasn’t Luke the bigs coach this year? As someone mentioned earlier in thread, maybe he wants to follow Luke to BC.
