Reibe in the portal

He'll be good somewhere else offensively but he's more power forward than center. 6'10.5, 7'1 wingspan, plays soft around the rim and is fairly unathletic.

I do wish we had at least 1 center coming back who already knows the system like we had all these other years.
I don’t think he has any Power Forward in him.

Really unsurprising, have to imagine this was mutual. Hurley doesn’t tolerate camps like his that constantly complain about PT.
A lot of us talked about getting stronger, I honestly don't know how much of that you can build as a 5. You're kind of born with it. Everything he did felt soft & finesse.

The recruiting classes lately have not been what they once were. Until we hear about what is going on with Furphy and Mullins, we are now 0-4 in two consecutive classes on HS recruiting keepers for more than one year. The continuity thing might be all for naught, or Hurley goes to more of the sophomore transfer model.

We are definitely moving to a 2 year model - don't expect anyone to be. here for longer than that going forward.

Someone is getting a player who has shown potential. Really illustrates how unstable the player/school relationship is in the NIL era. He's right on the edge of starting for probably the best coach in NCAA basketball. Instead of pushing himself hes walking away. Feels like a mistake on his part.
A local sports TV guy from my childhood (later fired for being hammered on a broadcast) had a saying - a winner never quits and a quitter never wins.

Not surprised. He did not develop well enough to be given 25 minutes and a starting role.

This is moreso a factor of kids not wanting to stick it out and battle for PT.

.-.
Damn. Obviously means we're planning on getting a stud center now.
Man, you guys are fast. I was just going to post this.

As others have said here, it was not unexpected. I still hold out some level of hope that Hurley may be able to re-recruit him. I'll be interested in what bigs we pursue. If it's an upperclassman who will start, then we know this is a done deal. I wouldn't be entirely against Hurley re-recruiting him, but based upon some things that were said during the season, it may be unlikely.

I do think we should have found him more minutes, there were some games down the stretch where he only saw the floor for 5-7 minutes when I think he should of been more in the 10-15 min per game, every game.

That being said, he regressed throughout the year and for his 7'1" size, he was one of the worst rebounders I have ever seen.

Best of luck to him when he's not playing against Uconn. We really need to land a big time transfer center now.

If the rumors we heard are true his family felt like he should have played more minutes this year and didn't like how he was being used.
He had one of the highest foul rates in the country. He’s going to be good but he just couldn’t stop fouling.

I’m really shocked, surprised he doesn’t want to develop with our history of producing very good bigs. Oh well his loss. No way he is gonna find a better culture than ours. I got a feeling he’s gonna look back and regret this. Maybe that’s what Hurley meant about coaches tampering during the season. Somebody got in his ear. I have to say I’m very surprised

Eh if part of the tradeoff for his lack of minutes was Tarris getting 21 and 13 in the NCAAT I'm fine with that

I haven't seen anything concrete, but it was rumored his camp / family was voicing displeasure with the staff over his minutes / usage. It was mentioned during the season by some
This wasn’t rumored. It was said by Hurley in a postgame presser in late January. I’ll have to find the game. I’m paraphrasing, but Dan said that Reibe’s camp needs to trust the process a bit more, and he referenced Clingan’s two-year journey and how he backed up Adama his freshman year. After that presser, I had a feeling Reibe was gone after this season.

From what I remember, there's been some the family about playing time. If you can go somewhere, make some money and get to play more often. I wish him luck. I really hoped that he stayed though.
That's what I heard. He played a bunch when Reed was out and his minutes dropped when Reed came back and his "people" weren't happy with the drop.

Even still, he had nothing but minutes ahead of him so it had to be more and felt like maybe Hurley wasn't the right fit (aka, he couldn't take the hard work and practices).

He was in foul trouble basically every game down the stretch. He was unplayable. They wanted to get him more minutes & they couldn’t.

That's a good point. He had trouble contesting anything without fouling.

The staff wanted him to become the next Clingan, but Reibe saw himself as more of a Dirk.

I wonder if he is following Murray to BC.

No offense to Luke, but he'll have better options than that. The kid can play. He showed it in the non-con. I doubt he sees himself parked on the block, though.

I think Reibe is going to put up numbers at a place where he has the ball in his hands and gets shots. I'm not thrilled to see him leave, but at the same time it would be hard to argue that he maximized his opportunities over the second half of the season. He seemed pretty checked out.

Problem was when we were putting him in games he was either fouling a lot of being scored on by stronger players. He just didn't deserve the minutes as the year went on.

Would have been irresponsible for a championship contender to go into the season expecting him to play 25 minutes a game. I’m sure Hurley was working on a platoon partner and Reibe wants starter minutes. Is what it is, best of luck to him. He held the fort down early in the season for a freshman big

Fwiw, never really thought he was a Hurley kind of big.

Between Reed being so much better and invaluable on the floor and Reibe crumbling against any kind of physicality I really don't see it. With the thin margins and tightrope this team was walking more minutes for Reibe would have meant a worse UConn team on the floor.

Interesting . I’ve never understood the gripe on playing time. He was behind one of the best bigs in the country and Reibe became more and more ineffective as time went on. Moving forward, I wonder if he saw his usage not being what he thought. If that’s the case, then good luck. He’s got talent. But from the start he didn’t seem like a typical UConn big in this system. I’m fully confident we’ll have a starting center that fits quite well.

We didn't experiment much with them both on the floor, maybe they tried in practice and didn't see the upside. Reibe to slow to guard the 4?

I do, he showed some face up game in international games I watched. Just doesn't like to bang down low and is a finesse guy around the rim on offense and defense.
Centers have face up game. He isn’t mobile or athletic enough to play the 4.

Yep, and a reason why he couldn't play more minutes especially in some of the big games. He just couldn't keep up more imposing physical centers.
