i thought Koroma's athletic defense and experience last yr playing the 5man in a 5 out offense lets him slide right into the Samson rotation spot if Reibe isnt ready defensively. I cant see Danny being ok having to use both centers in drop, so Koroma has a chance I think
Why do so many in the alumni and fan base call Coach Hurley “Danny”. I honestly don’t ever remember anyone calling GOAT “Jim” or “Jimmy”.

I’d like to keep Alex down to 25-27 minutes this year. It was obvious that Ak broke down physically last year . Now with reibe we can use a myriad of lineup’s
Karaban has averaged 28.9, 31.4, and 35.8 minutes per game in his 3 seasons. I can't see any scenario where Hurley only plays him 25-27 a game. Probably around 30 would be a better number to hope for.

It's like RAI-ber but you don't really say the last R in the ber, it's just to get your English mouth to say it the right way. So it ends up sounding somehwat close to RYE-beh.

I think Adams will surprise people this year and next. He is a natural all-around scorer at 6'5 who has good length, a rangy body, good ball handling and movement, and shoots the ball really well. I did not watch the McD game, but as I understand it, they're not playing offense with any flow to it. Hurley recruited him for good reason, and gave him up as this team has too many outstanding players at the 2/3, and what he really needed as the team developed was a 2nd veteran point guard. Hurley working that chemistry component too with his personnel, only so many minutes available, players riding the pine, secondary support players etc.
You may be right about the positives you attribute to him but I have doubts about his ability to compete physically at this stage of his development.
He got stuffed at least once in the McD's game while driving or shooting and crumpled to the floor. Looked unable to compete at that level right now but most young men tend to develop dramatically over their late teen to early 20's so we'll find out soon enough about whether he was rated appropriately.

Pretty impressed with Reibe today. Scored in a variety of ways - on the move, back to the basket, showing good patience. And had a big three late to help stretch the lead out. On defense, he was pretty solid. Well schooled in keeping a high hand when he was switched on a guard and moving his feet and making their shots difficult.

He maybe lacks a little bit of paint presence when it comes to rim protection, but he’s pretty fluid and that can be coached into him. He didn’t have to battle much 1 v 1 on the low block against a post scorer so that part we’ll have to see. Can be guard an Ejifor type for any length of time?
I especially like how he stands tall, keeps his head up, makes aggressive moves to the basket, is willing to shoot the three, and looks way better and in control compared to his first game.
Rebounding and defense will improve.

I’ve been dreaming of Reibe at the 4 since he signed! By the way, is it Ry-bah or Ryb? Thought we had it as Rybah early on, announcers all say Ryb.
Rye-bay

When he says his own name I hear RYE-beh. Maybe comes off as a bit towards RYE-buh, but never RYE-bee and never REE-bee.

you say never ree-bee, but inevitably that will be what he is called in my head until at least midway through the season when I've heard his name spoken 1,000x. That's the exact number things will change in my dopey brain.

So right now, he's Eric Ree-bee. But just to me.

Actually, I'm going to call him Ree-Bee and call Furphy "Furph" just like I would someone named Murph. So really, I'm pretty twisted up here.

This will for sure clear it up...

This interview was about a year ago and no mention of UConn so the staff and Dan Hurley did it again. Swooped in out of nowhere to get their man.
Also, compare how slender he looked in the interview and how much bigger he looks now.

Purphy has a great quick release. He’s going to help us. His ability to play D will be key.

So, after four games Furphy is the fourth leading scorer in the event (third in total points) in 36 MPG, and Reibe is 11th in 23 MPG.

Furphy is shooting 48/42/70
Reibe is shooting 60/29/54

Youtube announcers are saying one, and the arena announcer (in background) is saying the other. I have no clue which is correct.
I thought I heard either Reibe himself or someone in the know say it's promounced Ry-ba. For what it's worth, I took German in high school and unlike English, where words are inconsistently pronounced regardless of the spelling, German words are always consistently pronounced. "ei" combination is always pronounced "I" and an "e" at the end of a word is always pronounced "ah", so I'd be very surprised if it is not an emphatic Ry-ba when it's all "said" and done. ;)

Based on the video I saw on Furphy even before this event, he looked like a pretty skilled and in control player to me that has a great shot at earning meaningful minutes this upcoming season.

We too often put far too much stock in pure athleticism. There have been and will always be excellent successful ballers with average athleticism at the collegiate level and even NBA level who use their BBIQ, plus-shot making and space creating abilities, use of change in speed and direction capabilities, quick release, quick first step, body positioning, anticipation, etc. to beat their opponent.

Granted, he will probably struggle defending uber-quick and athletic players who have a plus-handle, but hopefully he has enough anticipation skills and solid foot work to hold his own.

Conversely, Solo Ball seems to have some impressive hops, but couldn't keep anyone most of last season from blowing right by him as “he stood there like the house by the side of the road, and watched them go by.” Stole that quote from the great baseball announcer, Ernie Hartwell, describing a batter taking a 3rd strike.

Hopefully, Solo will improve and Furphy will do well on both ends of the floor. We'll find out in about 5 months from now.

Hoping to get eyes on Reibe tomorrow morning, have watched Furphy 3x, his games just seem to fit into my couch schedule a bit better haha..

Beyond impressed with Furphy, just goes to show how much harder this staff works than anyone.

Haha, in my head I mispronounce his last name as Reeb. By the time the season starts. UConn we have the pronunciation guide up on the roster website and that will resolve any debate as to how to say his name. I checked yesterday and it's not up yet.

Honestly, it’s just not that important to me or most people.

It’s a u19 tournament, I don’t take that much pride in my country for winning these things. A major Olympic tournament is different.
It's not that deep, I should have put "lol" after the first line in my post
