Pretty impressed with Reibe today. Scored in a variety of ways - on the move, back to the basket, showing good patience. And had a big three late to help stretch the lead out. On defense, he was pretty solid. Well schooled in keeping a high hand when he was switched on a guard and moving his feet and making their shots difficult.

He maybe lacks a little bit of paint presence when it comes to rim protection, but he’s pretty fluid and that can be coached into him. He didn’t have to battle much 1 v 1 on the low block against a post scorer so that part we’ll have to see. Can be guard an Ejifor type for any length of time?

He’s just a bit tentative as a help defender around the rim. A number of times he had a perfect opportunity to go for the block and either was a step slow in contesting or just didn’t go for it at all. Shouldn’t be something too difficult to coach into him.

I think Furphy is good. I think Furphy has a good chance of contributing meaningfully next year. I think top-30 recruit is a stretch. Let's pump the brakes on juicing kids up after last year - I remember when there were pages of crazy talk about Stewart and Ross going in the first round.

Frankly Furphy and however he pans out next year is a bit of a luxury, it's Reibe we're going to need to lean on a bit.

The issue was the entire team underperforming. The arguments for Stewart and Ross going in the first round were weighted in the expectation of another championship run with all the back to back to back talk coming from the players and staff. Stewart and/or Ross would’ve needed to be roughly late first round talent for last years team to measure up to the two previous championship teams.

How Furphy's minutes go will be largely dependent on how other players perform. Ross, Stewart, Smith, and Mullins all have the ability to limit how much we see of Furphy at UConn next season. Same thing happened with Ball (top 30-ish player) his freshman year -- it wasn't an indicator of lack of talent.

But Furphy belongs at the Reibe level and seems better than Adams (who I think is getting too much of a negative reaction at the moment, the kid is going to be a solid collegian in time).
 
Is he a righty or lefty? I ask because 3 out of his first 4 finishes were with his right hand, including a little hook. But later I see him shooting his jumpers lefty so that answers that. Bottom line: Two out of our top 3 frosh recruits can finish confidently with their off hand. The third: TBD. That's not nothing to me. There have been years where the only Huskies hoopers that could finish confidently with their off hand were on the women's team.

So, you will be able to put yourself in the camp of "surprised" when he turns into the player that many of us saw on tape, and are uber excited about, even before this tourney.

I do agree with you in theory, as the board believed Ross and JStew were lottery picks, which was asinine. After I watched all the tape I could find, I got mocked in October for saying the floor for Furphys career will be Giffey (meaning excellent distributor, 4th option, basically frosh AK). OR he will be a top 30 talent in the Cam high iq mold. Two camps to be in, whether I am overstating his value or is it typical bball uneducated BY hyberbole. I think he has a bigger impact than Reibe this year

Furphy has the 3 ball going today. Not sure how many he has but I've only watched a little and I saw 4. He has 20 points with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter.
