Furphy finishes with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals in win over DR. (5/7 on 3s is a lovely sight to see)

It’s official we have Reibe vs Furphy on the 4th of July!
One thing I noticed with Furphy is that he's almost always in control. He doesn't get sped up or look like he panics when pressure is applied. That's a good trait to have.

When he was out of the game in the 2nd half, I think because of some foul trouble, Australia didn't look as good and the Dominican Republic cut the Australia lead from about 20 to about 10. He came back in and stabilized things. Who knows if this level of competition makes him look better than he is but I think we got ourselves a player who can at least contribute. I'll be interested to see how long it takes him to adjust to the level of competition when he gets to UConn.

What a nice way to relax and celebrate the day :)

Hopefully the announcers mention UConn a lot and even preface their names by mentioning UConn.

I'm in another world watching Reibe and Furphy in action. Consider that neither has been a factor is our Top Five pre-season rankings. They are both very much wild cards. Can't wait for the season to begin, and it's a sorry thing when an 87-year-old wishes away four months of his life.

Are you thinking Reibe may get minutes spelling AK at the 4?
Something (sloppy fingers) went wrong with my post.

I was replying to a BY post (not aceboon’s) which said that Reibe played a lot at PF today.

You know your a big UConn fan when the Aussies played the USA and you route for the Aussies. Both our recruits seem to be getting better as the tournament progresses
As far as the FIBA World Cup U19 priorities and focus go with respect USA vs Australia..

1) Jacob Furphy plays well
.
.
.
distant 2) USA wins

in that order.

As for the entirety of the FIBA World Cup U19

1) Reibe and Furphy maintain excellent health
2) Reibe and Furphy play exceptional basketball
distant 3) USA wins

Good list but I’d still rather Australia or Germany win the whole thing. It’s not the Olympics after all lol

don't see it because we're gonna need to squeeze out some minutes for our wings there and since most college 4s are smaller and perimeter based I really wouldn't want him defending out in space that much.

There were rumors that Furphy is the real deal and totally underrated in recent weeks. I mentioned it the day this tourney started. It’s obvious now, we have a star on our hands. This kid is going to bring us some great memories. He’s one of the most ready players we’ve ever had if you use his play against 5* talent as a barometer. We usually get guys that need some time. He may, but it looks like he’s ready to contribute in a very significant way.

I would add we saw a little Furphy v Dybantsa and Jacob did ok. See you in Boston!

I don't ever see this unless Reed and Reine are the rare bigs who don't foul.
I’d like to keep Alex down to 25-27 minutes this year. It was obvious that Ak broke down physically last year . Now with reibe we can use a myriad of lineup’s

Dirk did alot for Germany because their national basketball program is light years ahead of what it was when he was playing. they've passed up Spain.
This is a bit of a singular age anomaly. Their domestic league is kinda bad right now, and they were very mediocre before this group of players.

That being said, Dirk won MVP in '07 and this group of guys was born in '06, so we could just be starting to see the Dirk basketball baby boom.

That's what I meant by the composure like Cam Spencer.

I’ve been dreaming of Reibe at the 4 since he signed! By the way, is it Ry-bah or Ryb? Thought we had it as Rybah early on, announcers all say Ryb.

So, after four games Furphy is the fourth leading scorer in the event (third in total points) in 36 MPG, and Reibe is 11th in 23 MPG.

Furphy is shooting 48/42/70
Reibe is shooting 60/29/54

Youtube announcers are saying one, and the arena announcer (in background) is saying the other. I have no clue which is correct.

Interestingly my good friend has the exact last name but with another consonant in front of -reibe, and we always say -ee at the end.

He told me after 10 years of friendship that it’s actually pronounced like reeb and I was stunned and dismayed and flummoxed.

It’s basically like we’ve been calling him smitty instead of smith, the whole time thinking that was actually how you say it.

All that to say, I thought it was ry-buh as well. But in my head I say reebee every time due to my own experiences.

This will for sure clear it up...
