Recruiting Transfers - March

I posted a separate thread about this, but he is my number one want. I believe he has a connection to UConn, but I can't remember what it is. Late riser with tons of upside.
Went back and checked in the recruiting thread for him and it looks like Purvis knows him.

I generally hate bringing in transfers and Juco players as it disrupts chemistry, takes them too long to make an impact and then they're gone. With that said, two of my favorite players Shonn Miller (grad transfer) and Johnnie Selvie (Juco) came this way. But for every Miller and Selvie, there's a Covington Cormier. They need to be immediate impactful starting players or we should pass.

This has to be one of my favorites to hit the portal this far. Big guard with good 3pt shooting. I think we should reach out, but he will be a popular one for many teams.

There are A LOT of big shooting guards available right now. This kid is a major talent too though--definitely wouldn't mind extending an offer.

6'4 195, 11.4 ppg, 42.4 3p%, ~40% shots are from 3.
Also 2 years of eligibility (3 if he decides to stay his extra year). This one sounds like a no brainer to me, but again, he’s gonna have a long list of offers.

Here's our hunting list:
Shooting big guards
ya know what's not on that list of 3pt 35%+ and 6'3+?
anyone who is not allowed on the big rides at 6 flags, ie fatts and such.
gimme mr 'i luv steph, im going to his school, i've got a kemba level step back, and i don't have to stand on my sister's shoulders wearing an overcoat to ride Goliath.' it's a 54'' minimum.

preach, sister, preach!

Another big on the transfer market:

Eastern Michigan's Ty Groce.

6'8 215 grad transfer.

15.2p, 6.9r, 2.0a, 1.3s, 58.9 2p%, 34.0 3p%, 72.3 FT%, ~ 30% of FGAs from 3.

Played about 60% minutes at the 5 and the other minutes at the 4.

The 6'3 182 freshman from Cumberland, RI averaged 10.8p, 3.6r, 2.3a, 1.3s, 52 2p%, 35.8 3p%, 79.4 ft% and about 75% of shot attempts are 3 pointers.

Out of those mid-major teams I like how Wofford leads the nation in 3PA ratio...Wofford wouldn't recruit non-shooters. Same can be said for Davidson (12th in 3PA ratio).

Won the A-10 Freshman of the Year award.

Those are fantastic freshman stats for the A10. Sign me UP. His defensive rating is very good too. From Rhode Island, so hopefully we have the local angle to take!

Vs. Kenpom top 100 teams...

17/3/4 vs #30 St. Bonnies.
12/1/1 vs #46 VCU
2/5/3 vs #46 VCU again
7/5/1 vs #63 Richmond
9/3/1 vs #70 Davidson
13/2/3 vs #87 Dayton
16/2/3 vs #87 Dayton

34% from 3 on just over 7 attempts per game. (17/50)
53% from 2 on 2.4 attempts per game (9/17)

Probably a great 3 and D type with some passing for us. I wouldn't expect him to be the shot creator or driver that we also need.

Gonzaga has as good a chance as anyone at winning a championship this year, and is the likely landing spot for 3 of the top 5 on this list (Sallis/Holmgren/Kessler). They're gonna be loaded again next year if they pull that off

Where is Gonzaga getting the money to buy these players?

Gonzaga is becoming that naturally beautiful woman who all the sudden bleached their hair, got a fake tan and a ton of work done.

Even as recently as the 18-19 season, Gonzaga was a fun team to root for, but it's not the same these last two years.

Does anyone have a list of the prospects that we have been reported to have contacted? Wading through 14 pages of this is going to take too long, lol.

Horchler, the transfer who drained 3's for Providence all year, came from low major North Florida. Solid on the boards too. Would have loved him on this year's team, he actually moves and gets himself open unlike Polley.
North Florida about 5 minutes away...hmmm.

Tyler Kolek
David Collins
Seth Lundy
Stef Smith
Justin Powell

Would be happy with any of these guys except Collins, I think. Not expecting Powell but he's also a great player.

Lundy and Kolek we seem to have connections to that we could exploit for a commitment. Both can shoot, but neither is great at the rim. Sign me up for either.

Pretty much agree on all that, Collins doesn't excite me at all, especially considering the number of big guards already available who can shoot.

I think the connections are going to be the biggest factor with so many transfers this offseason, so from that standpoint if I had to guess from that list of contacts Lundy seems like the most likely commit

They don’t. Few is an exceptional coach and he’s been in the game for a long time

Sorry, you aren’t landing a Suggs or other premium prospects without cash.

There’s no way they’re taking zero dollars to go to Gonzaga vs kanas or other blue bloods

Show some proof. Uneducated assumption does nothing.

You mean besides the fact that we know too prospects are consistently being paid to go to certain schools?

Like the fbi investigation?

You think kids are turning down big dollars to go to Gonzaga?

Try educating yourself next time.

So your assumption is that because some do it that they all do it. That's not too much of a stretch.

Mark Few has been winning in the tournament since the 90’s and he had no Top 100 recruits back then.

He has formulated his teams off of transfers and underrated high school prospects.

He has never had to cheat and never will. He built it up the hard way and that is what makes him so impressive. That is why kids want to play for him.

I’ve met him before. He is a blue collar, grind it out, honest type of dude.

Nothing like Calipari, Sean Miller, Will Wade. But you can go ahead and keep talking trash out of assumption and envy if you like
