This kid looks way better than #60, definitely a riser.

Scholarship crunches usually have a way of figuring themselves out. Transfers, early departures from college, ect.

Not every prospect pans out or is a fit at their school. If UConn gets lucky enough and all of their recruits in 2016 and 2017 do, then nobody will be complaining about 2018 scholarships, because the team will be amazing.

Larrier might be living up to the offseason hype at practice if we're opening it back up with 2017 SFs.

Yea it nobody leaves early and we add hami and this kid. That team would be #1 in the country imo

He'll be a junior when Hammonds arrives, should he commit.

He's made his way into mock drafts already, so if he plays well this year he could be gone by the time Hammonds would be in Storrs.

Hammonds is a very nice player, but will be a very real challenge to pull out of the South. Go get him Ricky!!
Early NLI signing period is November 9th-16th. If his visit date stays to the original first weekend of November, it could put Ollie in a great spot to seal the deal.

Hearing he might commit after his visit. Not sure how far though.

Good to hear. Everyone likes a top 50 guy on the rise. He's sort of a smaller-side power forward, correct?

How do you think this would impact us with HamD in the bad probably (I think he's coming...) and us working hard on Mo Bamba?

We're actually in the running for this kid? I saw the article that was posted that said we were dropped. Thought we were dead in the water

I was surprised too. But anything can happen once you get them on an official visit, who knows.

Edit:

I'm more impressed with this kid the more I look up. Has a pretty no frills game, but he's most recently measured at 6'9 220lbs--perfect size for a stretch four in our system.

This would not impact Hami and only Mo due to limited 'ships. The one to feel this impact would be Polly.

Yeah. I was thinking that it might impact the two PF's we already have on the roster if MoBa decides to commit. He's obviously not going to blink over a #130 recruit on the roster if they're still offering him a spot.

Things have a way of working out with transfers and NBA departures anyways. Not gonna speculate of course.

For reference... Rayshaun's EYBL stats were very similar to HamD's (obviously from a different position)... Shows you the kind of kid we're working with. I think his ranking might be a little lower because he just had that recent growth spurt, has a kind of old man game, and isn't hyper-athletic like Hami D is.

I'll take him.

FWIW, Slater on 247 was saying that UConn is probably out of the Bamba race because they've been asking about available bigs to get involved with.

If that's true, Hami and Hammonds can easily get the final two scholarships.

Yeah.. MAL, HamD, Hammonds, Polley, and Carlton would be a pretty excellent class if it happened.

We're just not really recruiting the level of bigs we did in the Calhoun days because Ollie is known as a big-time guard coach. I think if one of Diarra, Enoch, Durham, Polley, Carlton can develop, people might start to see him otherwise... Only need one for some name recognition with the hs kids.

Not sure about the "level" of bigs you speak about though. I mean the impact guys like Jake, Hasheem, Emeka were hardly highly ranked guys and turned out to be gems. Besides Andre, who did JC ever get that was regarded as a highly touted 5/big man? I agree though the fact he is touted as such a high level guards coach maybe it paints a tougher picture for a big to get serious about them But going into a battle with the big names since JC took over we lost many a big who was interested in UConn, but always ended up at UNC, Duke, UK etc etc.. He's fine I think we all know that bamba and richards are a long shot from the day they even say they like KO.

It's as easy as NEXT ;)

But what was the ranking of those bigs?

Voskuhl, Thabeet, Okafor, Boone, Edwards, Okwandu and Armstrong were not highly rated. Several of them panned out. Not so much yet for Ollie.

Yea but the difference is the guys you guys are naming were priorities out of the gate for Calhoun. JC identified those guys are much better than their rank and recruited them until they signed. He didn't miss out on bigger fish and then settle on Emeka, Voskuhl, Armstrong as last second backups.

You just have to hope Durham was maybe a bit underrated coming out of hs, because the rest of the bigs and carlton aren't real like high end pro prospects. Durham was really really good before the major knee problems, but that was two summers ago.

This isn't true at all.

Many of these kids were late signings. Calhoun would always go for kids like Ike Diogu or Deon Thompson, and miss. I forget the kid who went to California, maybe his name was Jamal Sampson? We had a million Berkeley fans telling us the coach Braun was going to grab that kid and overtake Calhoun. Okafor, Thabeet and others were replacements for the kids UConn didn't get. The big get was Bynum--but he didn't show up.

In Armstrong's year, UConn went after Jason Fraser, Torin Francis, Alex Johnson, etc., before settling for Armstrong.

Who were all the highly rated stud bigs Calhoun got?Donyell and Charlie V were as good as it gets but Voskuhl, Emeka, Armstrong, Boone, and Thabeet weren't top ranked kids.

Yes, Jamal Sampson. Calhoun also targeted Isaiah Fox who ended up at Arizona and did nothing over Emeka.

The narratives you put out there when it comes to KO and his approach to big man recruiting vs the past are just so far beyond wrong that's its become comical at this point.

UConn has won titles without high end 4 and 5 pro prospects, and you can say the same about a host of other programs.

Don't forget that KO landed Brown who was top 15 before his arest. Kevin didn't have to cut him loose, but that would have killed this discussion.... so he let the Jonnies take a shot spritsing holy water on him.

true, I just would prefer him to nab one but its not the end all be all.

I thought JC got Emeka because he lost out on Gomes

I had forgotten about the ranking of those bigs. We pulled in some big ones, and developed some others. I do think we will end up with some better bigs (Even ranked 25-75) vs. the 100-150 guys we're getting now. Those are still 2-3 maybe 4 year players instead of one and done, probably our ideal recruiting scenario, except for the occasional 1 and done.

I think durham could be the difference-maker here. Probably why KO was willing to take a risk on a kid with some injury history
