Rather be a 9 or 10 seed?

Latest Bracketology has us as a 9 seed, in Kentucky's region.

Anyone who would rather be a 9 seed, as opposed to a 10 seed in this scenario I think is flat our wrong.

ANYONE who thinks an 8/9 is preferable this year is nuts. Insane. Look at the pod locations!

Kansas --> 3 1/2 hour drive
Kentucky --> Louisville
UNC --> Greensboro
Cuse --> Pittsburgh

The 2's aren't much better. I would prefer to be a 12, this year, in all honesty - you might get lucky with geography.

It depends on your definition of preferable. You are right in that this teams best statistical path to the FF is avoiding a 1 seed the first weekend, but some would say a 8/9 seed and the opportunity to send UNC/Kentucky packing early is worth the risk. Some things are bigger than pure statistical breakdowns.

Personally, it's a toss up for me. I would like our chances as a 10 against, say Gonzaga and then Michigan State in some desolate city out west. But I would also relish the chance to win a toss up 8/9 game and then play in what will be the marquee game of the first weekend against one of the nation's best. In that sense, I think it's kind of a win-win for our fan base (especially seeing what the future looked like leaving Providence last week)

There's a chance the No. 1 gets knocked off for you along the way if you are anything but an 8 or a 9. The 8-9 winner is going to have to play the No. 1 seed, or else history will be made by a 16. And if your region is chalk (other than yourselves) and if you play the 1 in the regional final, hell, there's only eight teams left and all bets are off at that point (see Gonzaga in 1999, Davidson in 2007, VCU last year, or that other game in 2006 that there's no need to mention).

Wherever we fall in the 7-10 range, we'll have a toss-up type game to start with.

It's a good point that you make that the Number 1 could get knocked off by either the 8/9 winner or the number 4. If that happens, then you're right that you are better served as the 10. I guess I was assuming that the argument was based on the bracket going chalk. Otherwise, the thread question gets more complex, because you have to start looking at how certain teams match up (2-3 zone vs man to man), etc.

Yeah, I'll take a 10 seed if the Number 1 isn't waiting for me at the end of the bracket, for sure!

I have to assume they won't put us an 8-9 in Syracuse's region so I would prefer in order to be in Kansas region, than Kentucky, than UNC. Kentucky has a lot of young players and you never know how they may react in a tight tournament game. They are in a close game with LSU at the half. UNC has more experience and never lose in their home state. They would be my least desirable option.

Missouri is the 2 seed I would most like to avoid. I'd almost want to face Kansas instead of them. Ohio St and Michigan St tough but beatable. Duke probably the most desirable to face.

And by the way, I can't agree with anybody making the argument on this thread about wanting an easier road to the Sweet 16 as the most important factor. If we lose in the Sweet 16, it was a good year as a UConn fan, but not a great one. I think most UConn fans would agree that we aim higher than that.

Having said that, I can see both arguments having merit for 9 or 10...

^what he said. i cant wait to see duke/unc/kansas fans their pants over a potential second round matchup, but i hope uconn fans and players dont look ahead and forget about the first game. nothing is guaranteed with this team

Personally I want to be a 16 seed and play Kentucky so we can be the 1st 16 seed to beat a 1 seed.

Your team is not as bad as you think you match up better with Kentucky then anyone else in the tournament. Your bigs are a match for Kentucky's and your 3 guards would give kentucky fits plus Kentucky only has 7 players. I'm sure Jim would love nothing more then to knock paycal out of the tournament and i think cal would **** his pants if he saw Connecticut as a second round matchup because he knows he would be outcoached.

I'd much rather be a ten. The bottom line is that if this team gets to the sweet 16 I think they have a good chance of winning the national championship. You want to avoid North Carolina, Kentucky, and Cuse as long as possible, because that increases the chance that somebody else knocks them off for you.

CBS wants a UK/Uconn rematch, we will get a 9 seed in thier bracket

I'd think CBS wouldn't mind a possible UNC-UConn or Kansas-UConn either. That's why I am pretty convinced we are going to be an 8 or 9.

If so, I expect a game like 2006, but reversed. I remember Kentucky played us much closer than anyone expected (but then again, so did everybody in that Tournament).
