URI QB Coach Tyler Loftus was previously @ UConn.
It absolutely will be “a thing” that young players are viewed as progressing at an acceptable enough rate to keep a schollie but not at a fast enough rate to keep their NIL money. Is that the case here? No idea. Our returning QB threw only 4 picks last year. He wasn't going to lose his job. I wonder if Cole was told he wasn't going to get any NIL this season because chances are he wasn't going to play. Teams can't afford to carry non-productive assets despite the promise.
FIFY.Depth will be a luxury that you have to over pay for.
Frankly, I think we would've gone undefeated and have been in contention for a playoff bid if he had started.According to the yard he was by far the best QB we had in the spring that he was basically named the starter for this season by fall camp of last yr. Instead of sticking it out for more than a yr the kid high tailed it instead of competing. Once again not a big loss.
I know this might shock you, but I can see a path to going undefeated with OR without him...Frankly, I think we would've gone undefeated and have been in contention for a playoff bid if he had started.
We can all see the path — don’t lose any games.I know this might shock you, but I can see a path to going undefeated with OR without him...
Boy... you have an endless supply of cold water, don't you...We can all see the path — don’t lose any games.
BL, I believe you missed the joke.We can all see the path — don’t lose any games.
Wow. In my own mind, my attempts at humor never fall that flat.BL, I believe you missed the joke.
Why not? Our current QB is from Maine.Him going to Rhody would be great. If he does well there and post-Fagnano we don’t have a better QB, he can come back.
Agreed. And anyone on here saying this player is ahead of that player because of something as scant as minutes of a social media post/YouTube highlight reel or a drive in a scrimmage is just guessing. I stick with a coaching staff that sees a player for hundreds of practice hours, thank you.For us fans the offer list a transfer gets and the team he picks tells us more about the quality of the player than anything else.
Did he take it?Um looks like he an offer from another school and took it. End of story.
The poster in question has a very long history of predicting us going unbeaten just before the start of each season.Wow. In my own mind, my attempts at humor never fall that flat.
I'm well aware of Dan's prognostications. I was attempting to be humorous. The poster in question has a very long history of predicting us going unbeaten just before the start of each season.
Who, specifically, said he didn't want to compete? That's pretty damning for any athlete. My source is the media. He was taking 3rd string reps and couldn’t beat out Evers then transferred. Not that hard to figure out.
Can tell you it’s a secret. Need to go to the car wash for the answerDid he take it?
I'll award the mulligan. It's the off-season after all, and neither of us are in "game shape" yet. But regarding the folks at your law firm? A healthy level of suspicion is always the right strategy...I'm well aware of Dan's prognostications. I was attempting to be humorous.
In my law firm, everyone laughs at my jokes. I'm now going to have to reconsider whether that's because I'm really funny or they're just sucking up to a senior partner.
Along with an experienced Evers…Mcdonald has been in the program a couple years…and they have the true freshman. Can be a disaster if Joe F. gets hurt , especially if it's early in the season.
I'm pretty sure that I already know the answer.I'm well aware of Dan's prognostications. I was attempting to be humorous.

Is this paywall context? Wanna know if I need to look or not.Storrs central has great context on this decision for anyone interested.
Why would you care how Fagnano got the starting gig, as opposed to the numbers he put up once he got it?If our QB room didn't consist of a QB who only got the starting gig because the starting QB from last year got hurt, a QB who looked awful last year, and a bunch of lesser known QBs, I'd feel ok about this. Seeing how our QB room DOES consist of what I listed above, losing Welliver makes me angry. However, maybe he wasn't as good as we thought. I just worry he'll head somewhere else and blow up.
Wish the kid the best. As many here said, this is the new norm. If a top level recruit doesn't start by year two, they're gone. Seems Cole wasn't even going to be QB 2.

It makes you angry to lose one of those lesser known QBs?...would it make you angry if it was McDonald?
