I'm not talking about your players.I don't feel strongly about the whole topic, but you have to admit that PC has an objectively higher potential to embarrass the conference this season. They have an absolutely gaudy record in a supposedly top-tier conference. When Providence loses in the opening round to East West State, Joe Casual in Nebraska will say, "Look at that. The Big East sucks!"
If UConn loses in the first round, Mr. Casual will look at our record and seed and say, "Hmm. UConn still stinks. Maybe they'll be good again soon."
Granted, the latter situation will have us fans in despair, but it's a far cry from being an embarrassment to the Big East.
It was bad but Travis Steele, who I really like btw, said he went to it to protect Scruggs who had 4. If Odom who hadn't fouled out he would not have. It obviously backfired.Congrats to them, but good god X put on a clinic on how not to do it at the end of regulation, and multiple times in the OT's. Got to give the Friars credit they exploited X and that goofy zone and they didn’t have Durham or Reeves in there at the end.
They've had a ton of close ones, that might bite them in the ass at some point, but they aren't shook by a close game so it may carry over because after you win a ton of them you expect to win those and that expectation matters.
yes of course, I'm on a thread about PC. You have my apologies.buddy do you know where you are right now?
But it’s okay to completely wrap up Freemantle and Scruggs on the break to a basket? And no flagrant is called? You don’t get to foul our worst foul shooter 60 feet away from the action. They took away the intentional foul in CBB and changed it to flagrant. At the exact same time a player trying to get out of bounds to receive the ball from the inbounder was being tackled. There were multiple bonehead plays by Xavier on that play that could have been called.
The truth is that Xavier had 2 chances to win it in regulation and the 1st overtime and decided to go to Kunkel and Jones instead of Scruggs or Freemantle.
No of course not. I'm not defending that call. I specifically addressing what you said was a joke. You cannot do hack a Shaq in CBB and especially not that far away from the ball before it's inbounded. This shouldn't be a controversial take. But it’s okay to completely wrap up Freemantle and Scruggs on the break to a basket? And no flagrant is called?
And then a possession before Horchler got tossed away under the basket?
The refs were bad for a lot of the game. It just so happens PC benefitted late.
Most of them. Been to a few. I'm from RI.I'm far from being a PC fan in any sense of the word but this is comical
The fans at PC are having the time of their life - how many PC games have you watched this season?
Up until the Nova game at the XL, the PC fans have been much more engaged at the Dunk than any crowds at either Gampel or XL
A win is a win no matter who you play - it's still 5 v 5 on the court
I'd rather be lucky and win rather than unlucky and lose
Loosen up pal and get your panties out of the ball that they are twisted in
you're saying that nunge fouled him intentionally??? he had four fouls. they had to have known any dead ball foul there was flagrant. i think it was just him being "physical" and they called a soft foul. not that we can even really see what happened because the only view is a fish eye lens from the opposite sideline. it was a weak/soft call - but i sympathize with the refs a little there. it's not their fault it's an all or nothing scenario. No of course not. They were not going to throw it the length of the court to their worst FT shooter. Of course he was fouling him intentionally. He put his arms around him.you're saying that nunge fouled him intentionally??? he had four fouls. they had to have known any dead ball foul there was flagrant. i think it was just him being "physical" and they called a soft foul. not that we can even really see what happened because the only view is a fish eye lens from the opposite sideline. it was a weak/soft call - but i sympathize with the refs a little there. it's not their fault it's an all or nothing scenario.
but i refuse to believe that Nunge was fouling intentionally. or that fouling Watson was the design there (unless a player/coach has come out and said it was post game and i missed that). I think it was just sloppiness
Absolutely agree. It was a good move by Cooley to move Minaya onto him even though he didn't foul him when he should have in the 2nd.The purpose of protecting Scruggs was get him looks on the offensive end, I think he got one shot in the 3rd OT, that's a bad job by X if you're going go to an ineffective zone to protect a guy then at least get him in spots on the offensive end where he's got a chance to score and you're telling him get the ball and shoot it.
At some point you are who you are, the zone was a bad move, just live with the M2M.
no he didnt? he didnt wrap watson up....he looked like he was trying to run him off whatever movement he was doing, like he was trying to force him OB for some reasonThey were not going to throw it the length of the court to their worst FT shooter. Of course he was fouling him intentionally. He put his arms around him.
If he does when the ball is in play, it’s just a foul. When you do it when everyone is just standing there, well…. I think he mistimed it.no he didnt? he didnt wrap watson up....he looked like he was trying to run him off whatever movement he was doing, like he was trying to force him OB for some reason
i'm not debating that it wasnt a foul, but i'm saying intentional? the coach drew up a play for their second best player with 4 fouls to intentionally foul in a situation where a foul would only warrant a flagrant call? that's what we think happened...?
Then you never went to a UConn game there. I'll feel bad for Cooley when they blow it but that's about it. It kills me that just a week ago the PC fans must have felt like they were on top of the world with the press clippings their Nova game garnered. But they lost that game, then UConn comes along and tops their team and crowd performance. And now their roof leaks.I've never hated Providence.
I've been to a bunch of UConn Providence games there and I don't hate them in the least. I root for Providence when it doesn't impact UConn just like I root for all Big East teams. Then you never went to a UConn game there. I'll feel bad for Cooley when they blow it but that's about it. I’m not saying the coach did anything. I also don’t think the coach drew up a play to tackle a player trying to get out of bounds to receive a side pass on the baseline. Players make mistakes. Let’s just say I understand completely where you are coming from and can understand your position. I just don’t agree.no he didnt? he didnt wrap watson up....he looked like he was trying to run him off whatever movement he was doing, like he was trying to force him OB for some reason

This. It was definitely meant to put Watson at the line.If he does when the ball is in play, it’s just a foul. When you do it when everyone is just standing there, well…. I think he mistimed it.
You think the XL Center which was a great environment btw, out did the games at the Dunk? Then you never went to a UConn game there. I'll feel bad for Cooley when they blow it but that's about it. It depends if you like 90's jock rock or Taylor Swift. Let's call it a wash on that one...You think the XL Center which was a great environment btw, out did the games at the Dunk?

LOL. To be honest? I simply can’t be cynical about kids. When 88% of your student body shows up in an off campus arena (Last nights estimate), they can sing whatever they want.It depends if you like 90's jock rock or Taylor Swift. Let's call it a wash on that one...
