Providence Post Game Thread

So glad to see JStew props because he was a soldier for us out there tonight. Reminded me of AJJ on those hustle plays that you just have to see to know they happened. Also clearly such a valuable passer for us, especially getting it to Tarris for some easy ones.

It's clear something has clicked with JStew and he isn't rushing his actions in the offense. Us fans often talk about the game slowing down for players and it is allowing JStew to make some real high IQ plays and some hustle plays.

Great to see.

Yep!
So I saw you had to subscribe for game. Hit $10.99 option.
Then realized you need premium.
So hit $16.99 option.

So of course, Peacock took $28.

All to listen to Donny drone on about how great this rivalry is.
See at that point I’d be like the heck with this I’m driving to providence and buying a ticket I don’t care if gas and the ticket costs more, at least I’m there. I’m so jealous of the Husky fans that witnessed that in person.

I have never had an issue with Peacock lagging ever (and I've had it for 2 years). The game ran perfectly tonight.
Me either. I think someone may need to upgrade their home internet. 😆

Walking off the court at end of first half he was chirping at the ref on the way to the tunnel. Have never seen a T called like that before but refs are gonna bust Danny's onions whenever they get the chance. Foul shots to start the second half/possession.
He didn't seem to be "chirping" so much as talking to the ref. It also seemed like it was productive as at the start of the second half refs started calling fouls against Providence

I pay $10.99 a month using Roku although others have received better deals than me. You don’t need premium. I don’t have it.

I swear I thought Silas’ half court heave at the buzzer was going in.
Was thinking we should have called a TO with about 2.5 seconds left, but probably would not have gotten much better of a shot than Silas' heave.

I think the solo “benching” is more of a reflection on just how reliable Stewart (and Ross) have become. When either one is at the top of their game, they can both bring something to the lineup that no one else on the roster can provide. Going forward, I actually think there will be a lot of nights where one of them will be on the court in crunch time as the game dictates. Solo and Braylons games are a little bit redundant so there may be a similar situation where Danny is picking between those two based on who’s on that night.

No need to be negative about Solo. He seems like a fantastic kid who you can see is always working to improve the holes in his game. It just so happens he will be battling for minutes in some situations with a top 10 caliber NBA draft pick. No shame there.

If this turns out to be a turning point for Silas, it is way ahead of Newton's schedule. He struggled for most of his first year at UConn. Got hot toward the end of the season and rode that streak into the post season and the rest was history. I'm actually surprised Silas is doing so well so quickly. It is hard to run the Hurley/Murray offense. Glad we have him.
Looks like Hurley has given the green light to create as needed for Silas. This adds another great option to our offense, especially in a tight game come-back. Having another coach on the floor in addition to Karaban is priceless. Smart players know what they can and cannot do. Fifteen assists (15) and one (1) turnover is amazing!

100%

Was thinking he was exactly who we needed to be able to get more minutes from to stem the tide a bit when we could score relatively easily but could get 0 stops.
Nah. Swewie filled that role of defensive stopper and hustle guy for the game. Just glad we have both.

PC played tough, but we were tougher down the stretch. I have seen the praise for Stew mentioned and I want to echo that. He was a key piece without it showing on the box score. Hustle, solid defense, and his only points were on a high pressure big time 3.

Silas is a dog. He is looking in complete control of the offense, carrying a 3+:1 assist to TO ratio. Also, while his shot has been questioned throughout the season but he is now over 40% from 3.

AK was quiet in stretches but showed up when needed and then proceeded to "taunt" the PC crowd. Love to see it.

Reed was absolutely being mugged in the first half and leave it to PC to not even have the decency to wear a mask while doing it. Once the fouls started being called he took control on the paint.

There is nothing to really say about Mullins, outside of he is the real deal. Even if he has off games the NBA front offices have to be frothing at what they see and cannot wait to be able to get him focused on basketball full time.

I hate Peacock. It is the only streaming app I ever have issues with. Every UConn game I get lags and it gets glitchly until I restart the app. Very frustrating.

I don’t want to start an outage thread but it was lagging for me as well.

I had it playing on 2 TVs (living room and bedroom). After the first half I went to watch in my bedroom for mojo reasons, and left it on in the living room where my daughter continued watching. There was a lag when I was watching as I started to yell during the comeback 3s from Mullins and my daughter said your feed is lagging! Probably had to do with internet/wifi .

Not sure if others have mentioned it but Stewart has become a pretty high level entry passer into the post. Multiple times last night he got the ball around the foul line and threw a very nice lob into Reed. They looked like set plays. He’s becoming a key to our success even when not scoring

I listened on the radio. My takeaways: Dan is growing as a coach. It was on full display last night. Sitting Solo? Playing Stewart 27 minutes. Leaving Braylon in all game. Supporting Silas is good games and bad - it all paid off last night.

Unlike some on this board… I loved everything about the game - I’lll take all of it.

That Providence team - that was no fluke - they are that good - they just don’t know how to close games.

I see the regular season as teams facing their demons and learning how to overcome them - all team have bad nights - all teams have bad calls all game - they still need to find ways to win.

We did.

Again, Dan’s moves with rotation and being able to go off script by benching Solo, likely was the reason we had a chance in that game.

Sitting Reibe too was good move.

I’ve been watching UConn since 1986 and never seen a player like Braylon - certainly not as a freshman.

I have no doubt Reibe and Solo won’t sulk, step on that court next game and turn it up a notch.

The whole game a learning experience. All it does it prep up for the BE and NCAA Tourney!

Ball has come up big in close games throughout his career. This idea you can’t play him in big situations is reactionary.

Off the top of my head, Maui last year he made humongous shots. We lost. But he made huge clutch shots

Dauster hits up Ball around 15 minutes

Yes. As I said before the game and after the prior game, when he flashes to the foul line area after a screen, they need to get him the ball. He's usually got AK, Solo or Mullins on the wings and Reed/Reibe in front of him. If they don't collapse on him he scores, if they do he makes the right pass. I said in chat, I think our best lineup has Ball on the bench now that Mullins is healthy. Stewart should start at the 3.

I don’t think I’ve seen anybody mention this yet, but I think Tarris was definitely out of bounds when he grabbed that. His right foot was out …
Wow! Great catch! Had that been called correctly, the end result would have probably turned out differently.

We were down 13 with eight and half left. Then lockdown D. I love Solo, but his defense was horrible tonight. Kudos to Dan for having the ‘nads to bench him.

This is what Silas is capable of doing. 15 assists from him. Amazing. School record 18 THREES!
Solo was -19 while his late game replacement Stewie was +18
