Providence Post Game Thread

The Providence own-strip steal was something
I don’t think I’ve seen anybody mention this yet, but I think Tarris was definitely out of bounds when he grabbed that. His right foot was out …

The two Providence freshman are impressive. Both are so good. The guards are quick and can hit open threes. They do play too fast and make bad decisions but that’s on the coach. They have a center who is top 10 in block shots in the country.

If they had a better coach they wouldn’t have 7 losses.
A bunch of new players just getting used to each other. Surprised we didn’t see more Vaacks. And never want to see Powell again. He never shot that well in warmups.

Who do you have, and what speed? Just curious. I noticed chat was ahead of my game.
I have BreezeLine and the highest speed, but often basketball games lag on cable for me, including tonight while watching the Spurs. It doesn’t seem to lag when the games are on Peacock though. I’m not sure why cable lags and peacock doesn’t.

Two things

Ross is really important to this team

Was thinking wow, if PC hangs on, that’s 2 big wins in a row. They’ll be in the mix! Almost felt bad for them….not!
100%

Was thinking he was exactly who we needed to be able to get more minutes from to stem the tide a bit when we could score relatively easily but could get 0 stops.

The number of foul calls that went UConn's way swung dramatically after that. You could credit the T with winning the game.
I think fouls tend to even out but the T definitely helped to ensure they would even out. You could see a T was coming from a mile away while watching the first half.

The best lineup for the occasion ended the game, which is self-evident in the result, but I just gotta defend Solo because was a big part of our life support in the first half. And he actually started the game hot on defense too.
I think some here are making too much of Ball sitting down the stretch of this game.

It wasn't a message, it was merely the fact that the situation dictated a choice between Solo and Braylon and Braylon was too hot to take out of the game. If we hadn't dug such a big hole up to the last eight plus minutes of regulation we would have had a more standard rotation.

Saw it last night. Mullins is the real deal. More minutes, more touches, more shots, more involvement on both ends of the floor. His defense was not bad. Keeps his man in front of him for the most part. it was very exciting to see. I was glad Danny just kind of left him in there. He is a difference maker. And yes, if he continues to get the big minutes, I will thoroughly enjoy his one year stay here.

Every T he gets he deserves, including the ones he wants.
I agree with you-Was responding to poster's question as to when the T was called. IIRC-and I could be wrong.-Wasn't this Hurley's first T of the season?

This was clearly an outlier game for him. His D has been much better this year and he’s been an offensive weapon. I know it’s what we do but no reason to overreact to this game.
Could also be that putting in Jaylin as a defender who is significantly taller and better defender than Ball (6-3) was a strategy against some of the PC players who were taller and driving to the basket almost at will. (Vaaks 6-7 , Mela 6-7, Powell 6-8 Jones 6-5).

Agree good call on Jaylin. But in all reality Solo had a very bad 2nd half on both ends. He didn’t guard well and he had 3-4 rebounds that he the advantage on and got beat to the ball due to either not boxing out his guy or just not making fast, aggressive enough moves to the ball. Seemed to bring the fact he couldn’t make a shot 2nd half to the other end of the court. Great coaching seeing that and keeping such a huge piece off the court by Dan, strategically.

No matter, I am quite sure he will bounce back and almost feel bad for the next opponent, he may take it out on them!

Good things happen when he gets into the paint. First off, He’s the only guy that can create a shot for someone when we need it. Second, he’s our only good FT shooter that consistently gets into the paint.

His pull up jumper in the lane from 10'-12' has been money.

That's why you have hard practices so you are equipped to handle adversity and fight through fatigue. Hurley coached his ass off sometimes he does have to be lunatic Hurley last night was one of those nights.

I didn’t have any issues.
Same here, very good broadcast and pre-game as well. Lots of respect flowing to both teams with NBA comments about the high level of play. The 3-point shooting was Celtic quality at their best. A classic game!

So much happened during that last 3 minutes of regulation. There was a sequence where they traded 3s late, but the PC 2-on-1 where a teammate stripped the ball with his shoulder what would have been a sure layup was huge.

Lots of missed PC shots, PC turnovers, big time UConn 3s and offense rebounds...what an amazing comeback! Wow!
Without that self-own by PC, we lose this game. Hat tip to whoever stripped the PC big of an easy dunk. Lol
