That late game sequence by Newton where he went for a rebound and fought for the ball repeatedly against every Friar and came up with it was a huge play. He stepped up there even after being banged up earlier. We lost countless rebounds fumbling and bumbling all game but not that time.

Lessons from this game for me:

1) When you have a 20+ point lead and 20 minutes remaining, if you lose -5 points over a 4 minute span, the coach needs to call a TO to regroup.

2) Sooner or later, to beat a zone you have to hit outside shots. Take them while up 15-20, then to wait when the lead is under 10.

IMHO. Sorry to all the coaches out there, but that is my "amateur" take.

home court feel @ MSG is anyone’s dream, but there’s business to be taken care of. i’m sure Andre is gonna let everyone know it
There was a stretch when PC was coming back and the crowd was clearly pro-providence. Then the good guys in the stands wrangled control back. I haven't been to a game in a long time. It's great to lose your voice from screaming too much. And I've never seen my daughter yell like that. Proud dad.

At the end of the game when Hopkins started playing well, it was more like a football or playground basketball game. I now we played poorly at the end but both teams are lucky no one got hurt. You could see it with Clingan today it was just to physical. Maybe some like that type of game. At the end under the basket the refs were not calling any fouls. It amazing Tristan did not lose and eye on that one offensive rebound. He was a unsung hero today. I someone post something about pg play. As far as I am concerned he made some big shots today and he had 7 assists so I am not sure why that comment was made.

7 point spread 7 point win. We are far more talented than PC but we let up and they grabbed the opportunity. Credit to them. Great win though.
It’s difficult to maintain a 26 point lead. Your psyche goes to sleep. It has to. It’s genetics. The killer instinct disappears when the opponent is symbolically “dead,”. You see this phenomena again and again in sports.

I would like a word with the chuckleheads who still think that we do not need a point guard.

Our plan to have Adamo Sanogo try to handle the ball to close out a win-or-go-home basketball game was a little shaky there.
We have zero top level ball handlers. Zero. Been saying that since the preseason. Our #1 weakness.

I saw a few completely sincere "Hurley ain't the guy"'s in the chat when they cut it to 15.
Bless their hearts.
They were in the bonus with 10 left?

Here is what I have learned.

The refs are collecting two paychecks.

One, paid by the conference, to objectively call a fair game.

The other, by Vegas to cook the score to manage the betting line.

Paycheck one is shoplifted. Paycheck two is well earned.

With that as background, the Big East has to bow to reality. Stop paying the refs, entirely. Let the folks in Vegas control the betting line and outcome, as they already do.

There is no objective reason the conference should pay to try to create some venier of legitimacy with regard to these outcomes.
Strong words, and yet the most troublesome part of this post is your misspelling of "veneer."
AJ also threw the ball away A LOT!
He threw away a relatively easy triple double.
Worse. It was 58-32 with 12:31 left. Things quickly unraveled from there.

Survive and advance.
That was the point at which I texted my sister that we had enough points to win and needed only to not play stupidly.
It was strange he didn't take a TO right before the Calcaterra turnover when he wasn't looking and the pass just went off him. I think Calcaterra wasn't paying attention because he thought it was such a good time to take a TO that Hurley actually was taking one.
Underrated comment.
Keep the game close so Providence resume looks respectable on selection Sunday??
Been holding up the conference all season. Why not now?

Hopefully Castle is going to plug that hole next year!!!

A win is a win. Looked like the gs warriors at x. Just keep the pedal down and stay away from hero ball.

The rare game where both teams fans are happy. We're happy we won. PC fans are happy that we let them back in the game and they only lost by 7. Boy I am happy that losing by 7 doesn't make me happy.
this is pretty funny. leaving MSG a lot of the PC fans seemed pretty chipper. had one guy walk down the stationary escalators (queue Mitch Headburg joke) with us tell us how great it is we're back in the Big East.
