If HS ranking have any bearing here, Karaban was 118 in a class not nearly as loaded as the one NK was in, and he was 15th.
How do high school rankings relate to athleticism and penchant for fast breaks?

I think it was sprinkled in there. Demary is a lockdown perimeter defender. Mullins will have great size for a SG as a sophomore. Ross is a good athlete and will now be in the starting lineup as another lock down perimeter defender. Nik is more agile/smoother than AK. Hines is a beast.
Mostly the same players. Tarris Reed was incredibly athletic and we're replacing him with Hines.

I dont think athleticism ended up being a problem for us it was more about size on the wing. Regardless we are bigger and more athletic than last year.

Former FAU F/C Maxim Logue backing out of UNC commitment. 6'9'' 215.. Euro from France. At least two years left of eligibility(5 in 5 passing? Would be 3 yrs) .Maybe the Sayon Keita commit to UNC influenced this. Might be worth a Zoom call .
Word that it's academic/eligibilty related

The problem I articulated is our inability to generate easy baskets before a defense is set. I don't see how that's going to improve next year, unless Colben is a one man fast break.

We do not.

Which is why they're still recruiting.

98% of minutes are likely on the roster already. Doubt the staff is going to find anyone as 10th man getting 5-8 minutes/game that is anything better than what we already have.

If this 6’6” scrub is getting a look, I’d rather go with our 6’6” freshman stud for majority of those 5-8 minutes.

All depth and insurance at this point.

You never 100% know how these things will turn out but on paper our starting backcourt is going to be a lot better and bigger with second year healthy (hopefully) Silas and Braylon. Really good talented players under Hurley tend to become great players in their second seasons under him. It also makes our 1-3 bigger and better defensively with Landrew and Ross at the wing. Landrew is going to have to be key for us and County is going to have to be ready.

Our frontcourt won't be as good, we're losing two seniors. One who was a starter on back to back championships and he did all the little things, the other we could throw the ball into whenever we wanted to. He averaged 15/9 for the season and dominated the NCAA tournament. We're also losing a McDonald's all-American who was really good before he had one foot out the door later in the season. We replaced the two starters with two really good players but they are new to the system and they would need to at least double their production from their freshman seasons. It's a big ask. Our backup big guy averaged a little over 3 and 4 for a team that lost their first game in The Crown.

I see a team that will likely be great defensively, even better than this past season but will likely struggle even more than last season scoring around the rim. It looks like we're short a big guy, that's why I really want a 7 footer.

I was making a very narrow point about our fast break potential given roster construction.

I think it should be better than last season. I don't think Silas will be as cautious as he was in his first season running point, I think Braylon will expand his game/be better with the ball and I think Landrew makes a difference here but we again look to be a below the rim team which will rely on out executing teams in the halfcourt and locking teams up on defense.

It’s pronounced Ha-men-yuh. So, no.

The tape on Traore looks a lot better than the numbers. He also has some ball handling ability. He also has some legitimate passing ability. That translates, especially in this system. I could see the staff taking a flyer on him. The back up 4 probably won’t play much anyway.

Nevertheless probably a clout move

Yes, I tend to agree with all of that. We clearly prioritize basketball IQ over athleticism and that forces us to out-execute teams. Which works, I just feel like it narrows our margin of error.

Time will tell if letting Toure leave CT was the right move. I prefer winning over all else, but for strictly entertainment value, I enjoy dunks and killshots and fast breaks and we did not excel at any of the 3 last season.

Word that it's language related. UConn has a great deal of experience with international players where English is not their first language. Confident that we have the infrastructure to assist if there's mutual interest and a fit. Yet to be determined.

He’s not academically eligible. Also, he sucks.

On3 rates him at 92.7% .Highly efficient #3 Star- rated bench player. 7'4'' wing span. High upside with work to do in certain areas. For a school like UNC that does not require players to take classes. Find it hard to accept that academic issues are a challenge for a French speaking dude. Think its more about Malone recruiting over him. We'll see.

Wasn’t it Landrew or Toure not both? Would having Toure instead really raise our athleticism? I think Landrew is an elite athlete and has much better size than toure. We don’t need another 6’6 200 lb guy

Love transition and kill shots too, don't expect them with this team. I honestly don't expect Hurley to go back to that system anymore as he's never going to have the horses and depth to beat top 10 teams with that approach. It's always going to be about execution.

They took Landrew over Toure - I'd take the 6'6" 230lb kid who will likely last awhile on this team.

We’re in a two season injury stretch that our back2back championship teams didn’t come close to. This past season, Koroma and Millender played meaningful minutes in meaningful games. Millinder played in a March tournament game as the third point guard. Malachi started a game. The year before that I recall Yousouff getting bridge minutes out of necessity. Strewart, who was Alex’s backup, stayed hurt. Against Florida, last season, we played with one point guard and both the back ups were unplayable, one was actually hurt, one was a failed experiment. I see about two unproven “experiments” on this roster now. If we’re supposed to be “bulletproof” next season, we’re far from it now. We need more.

Yea, maybe. I think the answer around Toure is a resounding yes. He's a freak athlete in the Ajax mold. Not to say Landrew isn't an elite athlete but my understanding is that Toure is in rarefied air and is a much better vertical threat given his leaping abilities.

That said, I think there's an argument to be made that Braylon was held back by early injuries, and Silas is still getting adjusted to the system, so maybe those two will develop a better chemistry.

I also question if maybe we spend so much time drilling offense (and defense) that our fast break gets relatively little emphasis. I'd love to see the numbers on this, but it felt like our fast break was extraordinarily inefficient. We'd routinely botch 3 on 1 fast breaks, mostly because guys didn't pass the ball. Which is weird, given how unselfish our offense is. Feels this is a conscious decision given that we don't play a ton of transition basketball.

We lost a center tandem and replaced them adequately.
We lost Alex and have a viable star replacement
We lost Stewart and I'm confident Landrew will fully replace and ultimately star
We lost Solo for 26 and Nils will give us the shooting and some ball handling with less leaping = essentially replaced

We lose Malachi & Millander that I don't see as replaced yet. I'm from Missouri re County at point guard, (show me). and will be happy to be proved wrong. From the high school, AAU, and Euro games I watched live, I think both Jacob Ross and Furphy offered equal or better skills to County with equivalent or better size. (Some day I may learn County was injured last summer and thus played poorly because I never saw on court play that suggested his rating). Maybe Nils is a stronger point guard than I am expecting, but I think we need a serviceable depth player at point.

We need a third big guy that can also defend and rebound against the biggest teams. Reed was out and Reibe was great and an important contributor to our high seed. How are we situated with a Hines multi game injury?

Here is a name. Maxime Louge from FAU. He is 6' 9" PF. His averages this year were 11 min per game, 67.4% FG, 3.4 reb, 42.9% FT (terrible), and not a 3 point threat. He is from France with 2 more years left.

First time I have heard of academic issues in years. Don’t believe everything you read
If you have other sourced reporting you're welcome to share. For recent examples both Caleb Love and Johnell Davis weren't admitted to Michigan out the portal due to their academic requirements.
