Power Forward Portal Wish

We literally do not even have a backup power forward right now and our starting 4 is a tweener. And our backup 3 is 6’6” at best in shoes
Our starting power forward for the past 4 years who won back to back national championships and another national title game was also a tweener and the same size as Khamenia. Our backup power forward/small forward was 6'7 at best in shoes and weighed significantly less and is significantly less strong than our backup three coming in who can play 2-4.

Demary is going to be really good.

I’m really interested in seeing how County develops as he may have a higher ceiling than both Demary and Newton with his size and athleticism.
We're going to win multiple championships if his ceiling is higher than a First Team All-American. And this is about a guy you have openly stated that you're not high on. Imagine if you liked him

I don't think Hurley is going to fully rely on County if he doesn't perform as needed. The more I read up on him the more I think Nils is there to backup PG as much a SG. Before UCF he was the starting PG for his 2022 U18 German National Team, averaging 4 assists. Noting spectacular, but between that and some of his abilities seen on his reels, I think we will be OK with the backup PG position between Nils and County.
Pretty clearly a hedge on the backup PG position. It’s a smart move because County and Nils have enough off-ball scoring that both can play a secondary creator and scorer off the bench if either one takes over the backup PG minutes.

Exactly. I think Hurley has (potentially) put together a very versatile backcourt. And frontcourt for that matter. A few things need to pan out right, but I think this is going to be a very interesting and potentially dynamic team.

Have we gotten more athletic? I feel like the answer is probably no.

In 23 and 24, we were more than capable of running an effective fast break, despite our slow tempo. That didn't happen last year and it hurt our ability to go on runs and put teams away (also we had a penchant for momentum killing fouls).

Ross is still a + athlete, both in terms of speed and ups. I don't know enough about Landrew to know if he's a vertical threat/fast break weapon.

Clearly it's not 100% necessary given our postseason run last year, but beyond the obvious benefits of kill shots, it would make for a more entertaining brand of basketball.

Hopefully Landrew and Hines both end up thing good additions in that department

16 years old and class of 2026 I guess because foreign player. Weird. Why do these players go to Duke when they can get more playing time and showcase their skills at other schools?

Similar to how people may choose a school with a very successful alumni network to lean on, I imagine the same goes for players choosing to go to Duke.

Hell, Theo Pinson being a UNC alum is the only reason he can fallback to doing podcasting after his career. Don’t know if he’s able to do the same if he went to Mississippi State with his super lackluster career.

Hines looks about 6-3 in that picture. No way he's 6-10. /s
Both times we played Seton Hall last year Hines played big and was really explosive and at times gave Reed fits, everyone wanted Hines because of his size strength and athleticism, and he is going to be even better going through UConn conditioning this summer plus making Sophomore leap….IMO he has more upside than Reed did, and look what happened when Reed figured it out….

Yes we are …Khemania is a top 15 player in a great class AK wasn’t even top 75, and like AK Khemania is a very competitive team oriented player that is a great passer and cutter, Landrew is a beast 3 level scorer who Max preps rated as top 5 in this class, Mullins and Demary both potential POY’s have a full year of UConn under their belt and hopefully can avoid injury bug that hurt their athleticism at times last year and can be best backcourt in America….finally Hines has more upside and natural ability than Reed did at same stage, is more explosive and a better overall athlete, natural rebounder and shot blocker …Jayden Ross will be an even better Swiss Army knife 6th man and County is a top 40 recruit as well…We have the makings of a great team !

Yeah, Prey ain't competition.

Agree - I'm calling by senior year, kid trumps Tarris in output based on his motor. UConn development will turn him into a beast.

Don’t know how this sits with Ross and Landrew, unless he is being brought in as a practice player like a Karoma….
Utah is a big 4 concference team and he averaged 9 PPG. I doubt he is coming in to become a practice player. Maybe Hurley is doubling down on playing small. Maybe Landrew will be our backup 4 and this guy backups Ross at the 3.

Shot 38% as a junior at Utah - I'd have to think so. This kid is not getting any real PT at UConn. NYC kid, so maybe he's willing to do it. His numbers generally stink for a kid that was playing 29/game. Not sure how he makes sense.

24/7 lists him as a PF at 6-6 220….

If he's a PF, then it's clear that Hurley sees Landrew as the first option to backup Khamenia.

My guess for next year:

Silas - 32 / County 8
Mullins - 26 / Nils 14
Ross - 22 / Mullins 6 / Landrew 12
Khamenia - 32 / Landrew 8
Hines 25-28 / Giltay 12-15

9 man rotation

Take that and throw it up against Duke.

Foster / Boozer
Blackwell
Sarr / Howard
Williams / Wilkins
Ngongba /

I honestly like us better at every position but maybe the 3. I think Ngongba gets exposed this year without Boozer next to him.

You didn't really address my question but ok.

I think it was sprinkled in there. Demary is a lockdown perimeter defender. Mullins will have great size for a SG as a sophomore. Ross is a good athlete and will now be in the starting lineup as another lock down perimeter defender. Nik is more agile/smoother than AK. Hines is a beast.
