Hard to imagine just about any qb actually worth a scholarship would get excited to come to Uconn to beat out four guys to play in 2019. Surely there are better opportunities out there for any quality qb transfer. Situations where there is just one or two dudes to beat out.

A QB with his level of potential (and he did get on the field for Nebraska as a RS Frosh in addition to his ranking in high school) would not be worried about being in competition with the QBs on our roster. Why should he be? That doesn't mean that he will automatically win the job either -- just that he wouldn't be concerned coming in.

After the dust has settled on the spring game I have flip flopped on this situation. So far none of the young promising QBs have asserted themselves like a Quinton Flowers or McKenzie Milton with a firm hold on a possible 3 year reign at the helm. So yeah I don't see any big time transfer being intimidated. Any transfer would be competing for 2019 which would have just Washington (hopefully), McAfee and Krajewski to beat out.

If we had a Flowers or Milton, they'd be starting!

With that said, it looks like O'Brien and ASU have some mutual interest. If we're gonna have to plug and play, I'd prefer to not go the JUCO route--we've done that many times and the guys are never ready for the speed of the game when they come in; I'd prefer an FBS transfer.

Well I was kinda-hoping-praying that one of the two youngsters would have push Pindell aside this spring, not because I dont like Pindell, because of their own shear awesomeness. Since that clearly didn't happen, I would say our attractiveness to a potential QB transfer to compete in 2019 has increased.

Tyler Lorenzen was a JUCO. He seemed more than okay with the speed of the game. I take someone like him in a heartbeat.

Agreed coachcap, but I also think Lorenzen has been the exception for us. Maybe we could find the right JUCO guy, but a lot of them have not quite panned out.

Top QBs tend to go to the top schools, but the top schools are stockpiling QBs and some will transfer. In my opinion, the best shot UConn has at getting a top QB is through transfer as all of the QBs recruited to the top schools are not going to play. (Remember Zach Frazer who transferred from Notre Dame to UConn?)

Look at some examples of QB stockpiling:

Clemson:
#7 DT QB 2016
#2 PRO QB 2017
#17 PRO QB 2017
#1 PRO QB 2018
#3 DT QB 2019

Georgia:
#2 PRO QB 2016
#3 PRO QB 2017
#1 DT QB 2018

USC:
#5 DT QB 2015
#6 PRO QB 2015
#13 DT QB 2016
#4 PRO QB 2017
#2 PRO QB 2018

Arizona St:
#4 PRO QB 2015
#17 DT QB 2015
#14 PRO QB 2016
#94 PRO QB 2016
#1 PRO QB 2017
#14 PRO QB 2017

Rodney Williams - DB at Syracuse has opted to do his grad year at Temple. Mike Z had given him a follow on twitter back when he announced his plans to transfer.

Its notable that Crocker and D. Harris are following Amhir Mitchell along with Tyler Coyle and Malik Banks.

Mitchell already used a year of eligibility at Michigan (early enrollee in 2016) and now one at Rutgers. Its reported he had a strong spring at Rutgers in 2017 before tearing an ACL. He's never seen the field.

6'3'' 205lbs. #5 ranked prospect in NJ in the 2017 class.

Why would HCRE waste a scholarship on a QB when we have five on schollies already. Seems like there would be five competing for a starting job if the freshman red shirts. Seems like that scholarship for a GT would be better spent in an O lineman or CB.

He's my twitter bible on who we're showing interest in...
Maybe I am doing something wrong, but from what I can tell Mike Z is no longer following this kid. Kyle Cooper and Rhett Lashlee have started following however.

Not sure his source...nor do I have any leads at this hr.

Anybody know about Jaleel Fields, DE transferring from WVU. He hasn't done a whole lot there but was scheduled to be a starter for WVU last year. I read somewhere that he was going to go to Indiana PA. Unless there are other issues, I would think UCONN could lure him over Indiana PA.

Also saw on Grad tracker two other D Linemen:

Yeah, not too surprising - his twitter activity had many JUCO connections. I could have this wrong, but I think JUCO allows him to play this fall and then find a new home in fall 2019 w/o having to sit out a year. If he bounced to another FBS school, he would have to sit out, losing another fall of valuable live action playing time.

And the Clemson 2017 QB, Hunter Johnson, announced today he is transferring out. He is looking at teams in the Big 10 but will have to sit out a year.

Rumor is Purdue will be the landing spot here. Home state and he likes the upside of Purdue's Offense under Brohm. It would be a good spot for him IMO.

Not sure if this link has already been shared, but it's the best one I've found that keeps track of who'd transferring where, or hasn't transferred yet and is in the process of potentially doing so.. It does focus a little more on Grad Transfers, but, it's better than most outlets out there:
