TP was 11-26 passing. And that was with a full half against back ups. No one has "earned" the starting job if Spanos is honest with himself.

No one has "earned" the running back position either. No back has shown any wiggle, strength or explosiveness.

Brewton has earned the right to return kicks and punts (if there ever any punts).
Palatine: “bring in the backup” always

also palatine: “look at the backup suck. “. Somehow forgetting about his first statement.

that was EASILY our best qb performance this year. Take one of the drops away, much less more, and the numbers become undeniable.

I thought he was limited but decent. And the kid who dropped the pass early who could have made it 14-7…he should walk back to Storrs. But at this level you really need to throw for more than 100 yards.

On defense, I assume they didn’t bother watching game film. I get Army scoring on a pass. But the first score not a soul around.

You gonna include drops in the passing stats? Yeah, he threw a couple worm burners and underthrew a few, but a few key drops as well. The kid is at the very least, interesting, and at best, exciting. I'll take either one at this point.

He made a few nice plays, we know the Wrs didn't help, he still missed plenty of open throws and gave up a td because of his arm strength.

For him to be successful he's gonna have to embrace his running ability. He's not Pindell.

It wasn't arm strength, it was a bad throw. Huge difference between those two. He showed he can put touch and air on a ball going 45-50 yards. That is plenty average enough.

Did he do that every play? No. But he has the arm strength to do it.

TDS in a game against an FBS opponent. Take that as a positive. Scored late in the game on 4 th down. Kids playing until the end of the game. Positives. Negatives, still the same so ignore them for now. Based on this, maybe 2 wins are out there this year.

I thought TP, Q Evans, Brewton and at times M Dixon showed something today. The net results really weren’t there, but it was something to build on.

Needless to say we have miles to go- many many miles.

inflection point? Too early to say given it was Army- need more… need another game

It's against Army's second team but it's pretty clear Tyler P can do a lot more things than the other 2 qb's. Who cares that he's a freshman, Edsall was a special kind of stubborn and stupid.

This.

What we currently know is that we have at least two guys that are better than the guy that Edsall picked to be our QB. Not one...TWO!

The fact that Edsall bungled the QB situation to the degree he did is a testament to how much every other area of this football team needs to be revamped...

i have never seen defenses this bad. It’s actually a wonder of college football. Army could have scored 100 today……..ARMY!

I think this one of the reasons there was a coaching coup. Everyone in the building knew he wasn’t making the right calls on the QB position. Edsall was forced out; when the kids and coaches pushed AD David Benedict that Monday.

Edsall exposed…not that we already didn’t know this.

Army is a good team. Not top 25 but a team that can play with almost anyone.

Funny thing is RE kept using the nebulous term of "moxie" and "command". TO showed more of both than JZ ever did.

Maybe Edsall identified the correct criterion for QB but he screwed the pooch executing it.

I also felt the the D didn’t realize how fast Army’s O really was. Playing against the scout team vs the real thing means taking better angles…we didn’t and that’s on the coaches.

Again, the downside of only scrimmaging for 18 months.

Very true…the college game is all about speed but good angles on D can help alleviate the speed.

My thoughts: saw improvement on offense with Tyler P. During the game & seeing the drops by wrs, lamented that our starters are out with injuries for the year. There were sovme VERY cTchable balls.
Defense needs work
Game was closer than the final scorrexwith 2 TDS called back.

Right. But the way to learn that is game film against opponents.

I remember reading a quote, maybe attributable to Kobe, about practice doesn't make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. If you practice against a deficient opponent you don't get better.

If "ifs" were spliffs, we'd all get high. That said, today looks a little different if a healthy Ross is on the field. We still lose, but it would have been a better game.

They could be a top 25 team their defense was ranked high last year and returned almost everyone. TP did pretty good job there
will be a big improvement after they get him to look at film this week. Hard to understand how secondary is so bad. I though when Perkins was brought in we would have had improvement but we seemed to regres.

Today was a revelation.

After only practicing against each other, real game tape is starting to show some stuff.

TP is the QB going forward.
Mensah is limited going forward. Carter and Newton need touches going forward. Receivers who are dropping passes need to sit. There needs to be repercussions for dropped balls.

On D, loved Evans' explosion off the ball and gap penetration. He is a perfect complement to Jones' pure power.

Everything else sucked.

2wins??

2 wins? In football? UMass is clearly better and Yale looked better than Holy Cross.

LOL but we covered for first time in a long time. Kickoff return for TD first since the Fiesta Bowl. Most of the playmakers today were freshman! If recruiting class can be kept in check or improved and supplemented with some portal players, the right new HC could get us bowling next year. A glimmer of hope.

What you forget from this play is his scramble to avoid the sack. Yes he missed the throw. But JZ and SK don’t even create the opportunity to make that throw
I guess we forgot how agile SK looked against Purdue. I do think he makes that throw, the kid was wide open, he just didn't have the arm to get it far enough

After many bad throws that land short, it's hard not to blame arm strength. And even if his arm is stronger than I believe, that just means he's wildly inaccurate. At least he didn't turn it over like JZ.

Just got back from the game. It was my first West Point experience and my first UConn football game in quite some time. Definitely a cool experience to see UConn play at a "bucket list" location!

Being there live, I was most impressed with Phommachanh's moxie. Crazy that he started in just his fourth collegiate game and despite that, he was poised, comfortable and confident.

No reason not to continue with him, especially entering our easiest stretch of our schedule coming up. If we can get two wins in the next five, that'll be huge for helping this team build momentum for next year.

UMass looks very, very winnable...

UMass...0-51 vs Pitt, 28-45 vs BC...and behind Eastern Michigan 7-21 in early 3rd qtr
