One of the things I’m surprised not to see mentioned is the impact of travel through 2 time zones up to 2000 miles on student athletes.
Yes, when an athlete's body crosses a "time zone" there is some kind of force field barrier that saps their purity of essence and makes them less effective competitors.

This is right up there with the cherry-picked stats you used to show that the reffing at PC's home games was perfectly fair.

Truly you are an analytical genius, BJ. Please keep it coming!

Traditionally (no real political division):

New England: 6 states east and north of NY.

Northeast: New England + NY, NJ, PA

Mid Atlantic: NY, NJ, PA, MD, DE, WVA, VA

New England states are also part of the Northeast.

NY, NJ, and PA are part of both the Northeast and the Mid Atlantic.

WVA, MD, DE, and VA are part of both the Southeast (South of the Mason Dixon line) and the Mid Atlantic.
When did anyone ever consider NY state as part of the mid-Atlantic?

I've been in the business world for more than forty years, for various reporting purposes I've seen the country segmented by corporations, the US government, third party consultants, research companies and various other sources and none has ever placed NY in the mid-Atlantic. Often the northern 1/3 of New Jersey is excluded.

Don’t forget the ones we accepted from the Yankee Conference
"We"? Last I checked Villanova was not a founding member of the original Big East. Just another add on we picked up along the way.

Pros of joining the BIG12:
  • $30+ million in annual revenue
  • power football conference
  • better men’s bball conference
  • better women’s bball conference

Cons of joining BIG12:
  • increased travel times
  • loss of historic rivalries

Can you give me a link for that? I can give you many links for what I wrote.

You're breaking things down into sub-regions. Connecticut isn't Midatlantic. West Virginia is. West Virginia isn't New England, Connecticut is. Neither are in the southeast.

Both are in the northeast.

I have never heard anyone say that West Virginia is in the Northeast. That is a real stretch you are making there.

Even PA is split between the Northeast and Great Lakes (Midwest) region even though the whole state is usually included in the Northeast region

No way is WV considered Northeast. WV is well accepted to be in the Southern United States and also part of the "Appalachia" region of the USA.

I guess it depends on what gov't site you're looking at.

If you're breaking it down into Northeast and Midatlantic, it's Midatlantic. If you just have Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West, it's northeast. I've never seen it southeast

yup. and apparently. as per your DOL list Puerto Rico is also in the Northeast. lol

c'mon... this is only for administrative purposes of the DOL. No one in their right mind believes WV is a Northeastern state

PA is split between NE or Midwest? You're making crazy stuff up now; where do you get this stuff?

Appalachia runs north of where I live, and I live on the Canadian border.

Yeah, I read past that once I saw WV.

Fair to say it's included in midatlantic but not northeast.

I would say, however, that the school has been part of the northeast for a very long time, as it played a northeast football and basketball schedule, it joined the BE. Until it moved to the B12, where it is an outlier, it was considered a northeastern school, just an hour from the next nearest northeastern schools.

So adjacent to the Northeast

Let me clarify:

No. PA as a whole is counted as a Northeastern state... essentially by everyone and all government institutions. No doubt there

But for some people (individuals that is) they may feel western PA is culturally part of the Great Lakes region more than it is of the Northeast. You can say that about western NY also.

But at the end of the day its all included in the Northeastern United States

ANYWAY, UCONN PLEASE STAY IN THE BIG EAST!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but there's a distinction between the Appalchian Mountain range and what's considered "culturally appalachian." Culturally Appalachian probably begins in PA or western MD. Lots of people consider its boundaries based on the map of the Appalachian Regional Commission, though that map includes parts of Alabama and Mississippi for stupid political reasons. West Virginia is the only state whose entirety is included in the ARC map. It's absolutely not Mid-Atlantic--it's Appalachian.

I'm not sure it still exists, but years ago there was a hospital organization called the Mid-Atlantic Hospital Assembly. It was comprised of hospitals from NY, NJ and PA and held its annual meeting every April in Atlantic City.
Not sure that's relevant but you asked and I felt compelled to deliver!

Having lived in Michigan and now in WNY, I can say the 2 are not remotely alike culturally. I dont know why people put them together, but WNYers are direct like New Englanders. They are up front. It was totally different in Michigan. I suspect that's because most people up here have New York City and Boston connections.

Who gives two craps whether anyone thinks WV is northeast or midatlantic or whatever. It’s all irrelevant. These designations are arbitrary and pointless. Even the state lines are arbitrary. Western PA is more like Ohio than NJ. Eastern PA is the opposite. Nashua NH is suburban Boston. None of those matters.

BYU is the outlier. Whatever. They like sports. Steve Young from CT managed ok there. I hate late games, but central time people mostly just function on eastern time and do everything earlier. It will be fine.

That is such a mid north eastern Atlantic attitude!

Ever try flying into Storrs? It takes 10-15 minutes longer to get to Morgantown from the airport than it does to get to Storrs from the airport. Are we seriously here talking about 10-15 minutes?
i believe I commented on the difficulty of the flights, not the drive from the airport. Reading, it’s fundamental.

Fair enough. I imagine that falls into a category similar to Creighton and DePaul (and a few others) being members of the Bid East & Notre Dame and Louisville being members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

This will be all academic when Colorado decides to bolt and Arizona plus follow.

You can't be serious. You think Pittsburgh has less service than Hartford? Really now? I suggest you use Google sometime before lecturing people on their reading skills.

The difference between Hartford and Pittsburgh is that the latter lies west of the Hudson River -- terra incognita. Everyone in Connecticut knows that the river marks the edge of the known world, and that beyond its waters, there's no there there. It's flyover country, featureless, non-existent, a void populated by cows and fanciful serpents, a place to be avoided. Connecticut, after all, is the center of the universe.
