Courtney Alexander transfer from UVA. I think UConn was a lock but there was domestic issues? Ended up at Fresno.
Oops, I was thinking Jamaal Sampson who I believe went to Arizona. Why didn't we get Diogu? I believe we were the favorites.
UConn lost out on Fox (Arizona) and Sampson to Cal. I think Sampson was actually JC's first choice. I could be wrong, but I remember being very disappointed when Sampson chose Cal and I don't remember much about losing out on Fox.You're thinking of Isaiah Fox.
It took Wayne Simone 18 months to sell Tim Welsh on him. Geezus f*^^ing christ...Did Gomes “get away?” Were we really on him? Just wondering.
I used to play AAU hoops in CT. I tried out for a Wayne Simone team once. He was very off-putting. I never followed up with his program. It took Wayne Simone 18 months to sell Tim Welsh on him. Geezus f*^^ing christ...
Yea that one hurts, having one of the best basketball players of all time as an alumni would be great to have
I remember being so happy beating OSU/Perry Carter to win the NIT.Good ones. Remember Perry Carter too who ended up at Ohio St first big time recruit we almost stole.
I’m sure that investment has paid off nowDurant took quite the payday to go there.
If I’m not mistaken KD was part of a class that may have included Wayne Ellington and the Lawson ad well.Kevin Durant. Texas is crooked. ;-)
Billy Curley. JC said this was his biggest loss in recruiting. He really wanted Curley. Even the other BE coaches involved thought he was UConn bound.
Anthony Harris??Curley was a big miss three ways.
He lost every game he played against UConn.
We missed out on a player that may have helped us win a NC or two.
Curley missed out on playing and developing under Calhoun.
Believe Alexander played high school ball in Ct.Courtney Alexander transfer from UVA. I think UConn was a lock but there was domestic issues? Ended up at Fresno.
Yeah I think he split time in CT and VA.Believe Alexander played high school ball in Ct.
He's by far the biggest player who got away. If he came to UConn there would be 1 or 2 more national championships here. Camby and Ray Allen together would've possibly made for one of the best college bball teams ever.
One of Calhoun's biggest disappointments was losing out on Wayne Turner (Kentucky) and Randell Jackson (FSU) in the same year. It was around 1995-1996 IIRC.Was wondering after El Ellis, how many of the players that got away from us at the last minute turned out to be great players. I know we really wanted Precious last year and he turned out to be everything we thought he would be.
Best recruits we just missed on?
Yep. The Sports agent that got to Camby also got to Ricky Moore and Kirk King. That would have been vacated.

When asked about all the gold Camby was wearing, the Squid said he thought it was "zirconia". He was flying so high he didn't need to even lie accurately. No comparison as to what was taken by each. Camby didn't even hide it, and Calipari didn't care (or was behind it all).
Yep, the best player in the country wouldn't have made those teams better.Camby was a great college player, but it’s hard to argue he would’ve made those UConn teams better .
29-5 , 28-5, 32-3 respectively.
That’s UConn’s record during cambys time.
things don’t happen in a vacuum. This isn’t fantasy sports.
problem is no titles. But our style was set in those years built around yell and then ray. It obviously worked.
does camby help that? I don’t know. Did Drummond help a team coming off a natty? I say no. Great talent and guy but it upset the Apple cart.
Yep, the best player in the country wouldn't have made those teams better.
"That's different."Wasn’t Drummond best player in country?
