I think we have overlooked John Mayall...?

Well, if we have, here's my fav by him - and what a gem "California" is. A side note, both Jon Mark and Johnny Almond were members of John Mayall's group and performed on this album.

Tom Rush - "Urge for Going" - a Joni Mitchell composition, beautiful and sad, to me it's one of the great folk songs:

Emmylou is one of my favorites, although I'm not much of a country fan. This is the opening cut from Red Dirt Girl. (The title cut from that album is the other song from her I was thinking of.) This one is about how something as beautiful as a pearl comes from the animal's pain.

Since '83 my fave band on the planet has been Steel Pulse. A reggae band outta Birmingham.
Here is my fave song by them, and their best, in a live performance from the Vineyard. I was not there.

I love Steel Pulse, and it's been years since I listened to them. Thanks for the reminder. One of my faves of theirs:

A kick-ass album!! But I think True Democrasy is just a bit better.

Here's another semi-unknown band -- less known than Shawn Phillips, so let's go with little-known. Fuzzy Duck put out one album in about 1971. It's a little jazzy, prog-rocky. I didn't discover it till maybe 3-4 years ago, and I bought it as soon as I heard it.

I don’t recall seeing Eric Burdon & War, Grand Funk Railroad, or the Cowboy Junkies in this thread. Were they posted?

Pretty sure Eric Burden was, not sure of the other two. I think we need a searchable data base...!

Saw "Stand of Fall" mentioned for The Fixx, but my favorite song of theirs is "Secret Separation"- they have a longer version with a cool video, here it is:

Australian band Skyhooks had a great one, "Women in Uniform"- lead singer Shirl has tremendous voice, one of the best!

Here is the same song "Women in Uniform" by Iron Maiden- just for comparison! Different but good too, and it picks up power like crazy as it goes along

Little Feat and they were really baked in this one! Sure sounds good too, and man is the funk heavy!
