Paige's Wings Page (merged thread)

it is my opinion for years now, that the only way the Wings will be a contender is to trade AO which will help in having a game based on passing instead of one on one hero ball. While Paige will get better as the season proceeds and she gets acclaimed to the physicality and speed of the pro game, the Wings are going nowhere but the bottom of the ranking.

+100. As fans, we had no choice where Paige was going, and I realize it's only been 1 game, but I closely watched the Dallas/Minny game and the Indiana/Chicago games.

Clark is in exactly the right situation and team. She has the ball in her hands and gets to make most of the PG decisions. Of course she's going to shoot, but as her triple double showed today, she's awesome at dishing assists as well.

Paige, on the other hand, is on a team with a selfish ball dominant guard (Ogunbowale) who has NEVER learned to play well with others (in the sense of sharing the ball etc.). Paige really couldn't be in a worse situation IMHO. Dallas is a mess and if they are smart, they will trade Arike.

There were NUMEROUS plays where Arike got the ball, Paige moved to get wide open, and instead of a nice pass to her for a shot, Arike forced her way to the basket, missed the shot of course, and sometimes was fouled. So selfish.

Tonight, Paige will embark on her second WNBA game. EricLA said exactly what I was thinking. In the last game, Paige was left standing alone in the corner, while Arike just forced shots in traffic. The Wings fans, as well as all the critics want to see why Paige was the #1 draft choice. None of them had the privilege of watching her for 5 years, every single game. Paige has to see the handwriting on the wall, that she will not get the ball when she should, only because the star of the team has to be the "one", the one who leads, scores, and just has to dominate her team. Paige cannot afford to be the passive player that we have seen, and by the way, Geno has harped on all these years. Its only the second game, but she has to take charge, start looking for her shot and just be aggressive. We all know what she can do, but now she has a new fan base that knows nothing except Caitlin Clark. She is nothing like Caitlin Clark, and thats fine with me, but I think that her new teams fans expect more than what she showed the other night. Paige can light it up if she wants to, so now is the time to show these fans what she is about. It's perfectly obvious that Atike wants to be the leader in every category, and I don't think Paige will be given the opportunity to shine like the Wings management envisioned. Its time Paige, let loose and hunt your shot if you can find it, and don't worry about anyone else. I'm not saying to abandon what thew coach is trying to do, but if nothing is working it has to be the Paige show. Fans were disappointed in her first game, so let's just show them the aggressive Paige that can turn any game around. Also, maybe some of her teammates can make a layup for a change so she can get an assist.

1). No one in this forum can speak to what Paige does or doesn't see. It sounds like you're projecting based on your dislike of Arike.

2). Agreed regarding it's only game two. She also stated after the game that the team, including her have things to learn from and work on. Let's see how things play out versus thinking the worst.

Clark's rookie season was rough at the start, but she adjusted, persevered and finished the season strong No Paige isn't Clark, but she's resilient and confident in herself which is evident in how she lead UConn in the tournament. She'll figure it out.

3). I'd agreed with this point had it been framed as "some fans", because one can't assume every fan had the same expectations for her first game. I wasn't disappointed in how she performed on Friday. She had decent numbers in her first game and will get better as she adjusts. Considering she's going from NCAA level to the pros in less than a month, it's a steep learning curve and she seems to be handling it just fine.

This is not a good team, and if they want to get better Paige has to be aggressive and play her game. BTW, I love Arike, one of my favorite players of all time. BUT, don't tell me that is the reason for the post. This is about the growth of the team, and I'm talking about Wings fans who really don't know Paige. I do, do you? I believe she did alright in her first game, but with a year's full of hype by the media, she has to step it up and be the aggressor. Fans are vicious now a days, just ask the players who visit Indiana.

That moment when you realize you're playing against Napheesa Collier

Honestly, it really didn't seem like anyone on the wings could guard her, but the matchup against Paige seemed particularly unfair.

You know, Arike Ogunbowale's contract with the Dallas Wings expires at the end of the season. The wings are not required to resign her next season as a free agent. It is my understanding that in addition to Arike, every other veteran player in the league will also be a free agent; every team will have the opportunity to go recruiting with their resume of core young players who are locked into a contract with their franchise.

I've no idea how this "collective bargaining agreement" will work out, but it seems as if it will be a huge game a musical chair, with only the young core players as the staple remaining on the teams. So, of the big-time veteran players, and I am talking big-time like A'ja, and Phee, Stewie, etc.; which are going to want to go play in Indiana? And why wouldn't they! Indiana was soooo poor that they received back to back #1 selections in Clark and Boston. In addition, they have Lexie Hull locked. Going into this party, that is a pretty solid core group of youngsters, just seeking new veteran free agent friends!

So, what other team? Perhaps the Dallas Wings? They have Paige and Seigrist locked up. If it turns out that they are really bad this season (apprears they will be) and they end up winning the lottery choice again, that team would be just about as desirable as the Fever. Paige, Maddy, Lauren Betts, Napheesa Collier, and Sabrina Ionescu would sure make for a pretty solid starting five.

The Washington Mystics have Iriafen, Citron and Edwards; perhaps that is a group that the A'ja Wilson's will want to go join! I guess the point is, you just never know what next year will look like. Paige playing in Dallas this season is not the end of the world.

It may not be a good team, but one game doesn't make that a fact. Is DC a juggernaut because they're 2-0? No. No one knows until the season's over.

Maybe some Wings fans don't know much about Paige, but you're painting the entire fanbase with a very wide brush, along with your comment about Indiana fans. Give the fanbase the benefit of the doubt and see what happens.

Paige will be fine and will learn what she needs to do. Give her and this revamped team the time to figure it out.

Good night for Paige.
19 points
8 assists
6 rebounds
2 steals (one taken coast-to-coast for a bucket)
1 block

Not much help other than Seigrest. They hung with a superior team for the majority of the game.
Paige had a nice all around game, and you can tell that a good part of the large crowd are there because of her. She needs more help from her teammates. Arike was 2-14 tonight.
