"Other" games of note, Week 2 (Nov. 12-18)

Seton Hall without Shadeen Samuels and Princeton without Bella Alaire makes for a dogfight, but Princeton wins! 78-76.
Oh dang, I didn't even realize Samuels was out as well. Injured? Status?

I don’t know yet, Samuels played three minutes then didn’t play the rest of the game. I’m not sure what the nature of her injury might’ve been.

I really like Miss St's freshmen class a lot, between Matharu, Jackson, and Mingo Young. We won't really know much about that team though till they potentially meet up with Stanford in the coming weeks.

These first few games have been a lot of experiments with lineups and combinations of players. However you are starting to see some players fall into place and where he is trying to push some players into roles. For example, he is playing P Taylor more minutes (17 minutes tonight) and working A Matharu at point.

As of now the starting five is fairly set with J Carter, R Jackson, C Bibby, J Danberry and M Taylor. A Espinoza-Hunter will normally come in first for R Jackson or J Danberry. She has really progressed as a defender and with her drives to the basket. A Matharu subs for M Taylor and plays more of a combo role by sliding to the wing once in the half court set for the occasional three. P Taylor subs for J Carter. X Wiggins is the other consistent sub for either of the forwards.

J Mingo-Young has been some sub minutes at both guard spots and plays with energy. J Hemingway is a little behind her. Y Morris has consistently been the third center.

In a tight game I could see the starting five plus A Espinoza-Hunter and X Wiggins as main subs with P Taylor and A Matharu getting spot duty.

Mildog, I am really impressed with AEH development, she is definitely in shape and very active. Seems to have gain a lot of confidence in her shot and her defense is pesky in that she is always right on top of offensive player. She looks ready for a big year. Lots of gym time and you can see it!

No worries, there's plenty! Vic's got 'em all lined up for all who want some!

Problem is they are all the same cupcake, I like variety. I agree MSST OOC schedule needs upgrade, it is hard to watch a game we’re the mismatch is so obvious.

I think it makes our home games boring and doesn't make me wanna travel to Starkville much this year. We have only one great game at home this year and that's against Texas A&M. Otherwise, we'll be mostly traveling this year for the fun games. Sure, we've already built a strong women's basketball culture, but that's kinda why I feel it's good to keep giving.

I don't wanna criticize Vic because he's my coach and I'll support him no matter what his mentality may be regarding scheduling. I don't want to get too upset with someone who obviously knows way more about what's best for the team than I do, but at the same time...... this game showed that we don't need to play the Murray States of the world anymore and we're already ready to face some better teams. But Vic took a HUGE extremely safe insurance policy that'll last 5 more games until we play Stanford. Maybe San Francisco isn't that bad, but the other games I'm in complete agreeance with what most people are saying.... they feel kinda pointless.

Ola Makurat (Anna's sister) just hit two 3s for Utah to give them a brief lead over South Dakota:

So we got the wrong Makurat?:oops:

Holy cow. Utah just went on a 10-0 run to take a 2-point lead over USD with 6 seconds left.

And guess who hit the go-ahead 3?

Maybe that will get Anna's juices flowing a bit. But the other Makurat just had her tie breaking 3 pt shot attempt blocked at the buzzer. OT coming.

South Dakota seemed to be in complete control for the entire second half until the last couple minutes. But Penande got called for a critical foul with 5 seconds to play and Arens tied on FTs

I knew Missouri wasn't going to be great, but I didn't expect them to be this bad.

USD pulls it out in OT 84-81. The other Makurat was quiet in the OT session

USD played good defense on her, she got nothing even close to an open look.

Kiana Moore missed a very makeable driving layup that would've tied the game at 0:13 in OT. Utah's habit of losing heartbreakers continues from last year.

I agree, hard to criticize Vic but it sure would be nice to watch MSST WBB games that were competitive. Based on what we have seen to-date it is very hard to evaluate how good this team really Is or can be.

Blackwell has struggled a lot. That other freshman Frank has been very strong for Missouri. They don't play as a team right now.

Not sure how Kentucky is ranked #13 in the country right now. That offense is a hot mess .

Better hope Chasity Patterson brings it.

I feel like they're kinda like Minnesota. I just don't understand why people thought they'd be that good.

The issue for Kentucky is if Howard isn't on they will struggle badly. Not enough playmakers on that team. Losing Murray and Morris were big losses offensively. They don't seem to have other kids to replace that production. Their best freshmen signee is out for the year with an injury. Don't get me wrong they can still potentially be pretty good but the returners have to step up and Patterson is going to have to contribute.

R. Howard is 1-8 today and they have committed some dumb turnovers.

That's what I mean. Everyone knew they'd be losing Morris and Murray and I just didn't see the overwhelming reinforcements waiting in the wings. Unless people think Patterson is gonna be all-SEC or something.
