Other games, Dec. 9-15

Oregon and Ionescu appear to be back in good form. I see that Graves gave a lot of run to the reserves today during the blowout win. For those who saw the game, any reason why Sabally only played 12 minutes today? Ionescu played 30, so Graves must have left her in to facilitate with the second team. Sabally often gets in foul trouble, but the box score showed zero fouls for her today. Sabally usually stays in long enough to have a chance to accumulate some stats.
I looked at the replay and saw nothing unusual when he subbed out for Sabally in mid-2Q. I'm guessing he just decided to rest her and/or develop his bench.

Ole Miss is definitely in the running for worst team from a p5 conference. Currently losing by 20 — at home — to Southeast Missouri State early in the 4th quarter.

Actually, there were a ton of turnovers--maybe the most (23, I think) since Graves arrived in Eugene. (He implied as much after the game, and also stated that the team has not been very good playing with a big lead all season.) On the other hand, a very good game from the freshman point guard Shelley (who has been solid all season), as well as from the Brit Winterburn. There was talk of Sabally having a bruised shoulder--nothing serious, but no reason to keep her on the court as well.

Or so she could put up 21/12/7 on her way to POY...?

Sabally, Precautionary measure, lightly bruised her shoulder. Sabally fell hard on her shoulder on a play. Was not needed in the second half and will be back on Mondays game.
Thanks for the update. Sabally does hit the ground a lot during games, especially during her drives. I thought that there must have been some reason for only 12 minutes of playing time for her when she had zero fouls.

Oregon State up by 18 at the half over Utah State. Slocum came out on fire from 3, and Pivec is on double-double alert with 10-5-5.

Utah State is a poor team. They're trying hard but are completely outmatched. They lost their best (by far) scorer and rebounder from last year, Shannon Dufficy, who transferred to Missouri.

I recorded the Oregon St. game, just finished watching. Really lackluster performance in my eyes. Sloppy, way too many TOs, but that is their M.O. I should be used to it but it drives me crazy every time. Other than Slocum the 3 point shooting wasn't very good. Jones did her thing, Pivec had a good game. Mik moved into the Top 10 career scoring list for the school. They've had a long layoff, hopefully they were just shaking off some rust.

I hope the most interesting thing at Houston at Texas A&M will be Gary Blair getting career win #800.

I guess Firefox doesn't like that link, worked on Microsoft Edge.
Maybe you needed to turn off your ad blocker. I've had that problem with Pac-12 videos, iirc.

NC State, after a 9-day layoff for Final Exams, is back in action today, hosting the Elon Phoenix. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network at Noon EST. The last time we saw the Wolfpack Women, they beat Maryland.

.-.
NC State leads Elon, 11-5 at the 1st quarter media timeout. Ace Konig with two THREEs...and also two fouls and is now on the bench.

Noteworthy that 6'5 center Elissa Cunane's first shot of the game was blocked!

End of 1st quarter...NC State leading Elon 15-8. The Wolfpack Women have missed several bunnies...and have also missed 3 FT.

Elon is in the middle of an 8-game road swing.

Elon opens the 2nd quarter on a 4-0 run..prompting a timeout for NC State.

Elissa Cunane took an elbow to the ribs on the opening play of the quarter and is on the bench.

Wes Moore called for a technical foul. 15-14 game...7:55 left 2nd quarter.

Whoa. Pace yourself. The game is long. ;)

Elon actually took a 16-15 lead...NC State on a 16-3 run to take a 31-19 lead. Timeout Elon...1:13 left 2nd quarter.

Elissa Cunane with a double-double already...13 points and 10 rebounds.

.-.
NC State leads at halftime, 34-23, finishing the half on a 19-7 run.

Elissa Cunane with 14 points to lead all scorers...and also has 11 rebounds. Ace Konig and Kayla Jones with 6 points each and Kai Crutchfield with 5.

Brie Perpignan and Jaylin Powell with 6 points each for Elon.

NC State was 13 of 31 from the floor (41.9%), including 4 of 14 from THREE and was 4 of 9 from the charity stripe.

Elon shot 37.5% on 9 of 24 shooting, including 3 of 10 from THREE and 2 of 5 from the FT line.

NC State leads the rebounding battle, 21-17. The Wolfpack committed 8 turnovers...with Elon turning the ball over 12 times.

NC State looking a bit flat, maybe rusty from the long break. I'm sure they'll pull away in the 2nd half, but Wes was none too pleased in the early going.

No..he wasn't, and rightly so. It was apparent the team was sort of sleepwalking until the middle of the 2nd quarter.

4:58 left 3rd quarter...NC State up 37-32 but shots just aren't falling; NC State is 1 of 10 in this quarter. Elon isn't going away. Cunane to the line for two shots when play resumes.

NC State hit only 2 FG in the 3rd quarter out of the 15 that were taken. Elon hanging around. Pack leads 42-37, going to the 4th.

Elissa Cunane with 19 points and 13 rebounds for NC State.

I am recording this game to watch again later but I don't think I want to watch it a second time. Ugly basketball.

.-.
For the first time in what seems an eternity, NC State records back-to-back FG. Timeout Elon...7:26 left. Wolfpack Women holding a 46-40 lead.

Wild sequence in Raleigh...shot clock winding down. At the shot clock buzzer...Ace Konig nails a THREE...and Elon Coach Charlotte Smith runs to half-court and is T'd up.
