even though he's Dooshy, Bobby Flay's Burger Palace or whatever the frig he calls it at Mohegan Sun is great.

Everyone should try Aroma Bistro in Wethersfield Center if they're in the area. Sooooooooo good.

The VFW at the Durham Fair actually has excellent steamed cheeseburgers. You get a slab of cheddar at least as thick as the burger itself on a good kaiser roll.

The best grilled burgers I've ever had are at Orbaker's in Sodus, NY on Rt. 104. Good milkshakes, too. Unfortunately you have to pass dangerously close to Syracuse to get there.

Thanks for the heads up. Last summer I stopped at Sodus Pt to show off Lake Ontario to my Texan sweetheart, before heading into Rochester for a little history tour & Sal's Birdland (a whole 'nother thread) before settling on the banks of Cayuga Lake for a few days at my sister's.

The Shake Shack that opened in New Haven is dreadful, do not go bother going. The quality is a steep decline from the Westport one, can't even tell it's the same chain. I love Shake Shack, lives up to the hype IMO....besides the NH one of course.

Interesting. I don't think Shake Shack Westport compares favorably with the original Shake Shack in Madison Square Park.

Was actually an old list from a popular magazine - maybe 20 years ago. Connecticut had 3 of the top 10 (Hartford and Bridgeport joining the list). New Haven might have been 2 behind Gary, Indiana - but I might be mis-remembering which city was 2.

But it's you're 10 Best cities list we want to see.

Ok, I'll make an effort to pay $20 entrance, glance at some mutant pumpkin, watch some lame country music and buy this $11 hamburger.

Nice

He closed that one sometime last year. I thought that was a great location with the college right up the street.

Poor management sank the Cardinals Nest. Same name now but different owners

If Ted's can change their rolls, it can be really good again. Ted's was the best in the 70's and 80's.

The burger can be debated but the best fries in the world are McDonalds and ( I know people will scoff but) paired with the quarter pounder with cheese ..... I once tried to eat a day old quarter pounder out of the fridge. That did not end well.

I took a road trip to Ted's with my kids a couple of weeks ago. The burgers were very good but I agree with another poster that they should offer real fries. My kids and I both wasted most of the home fries even though we were still hungry.

Plan B is the best burger ive ever eaten. the pattie tasted like a good steak. teds was great back in the day but is garbage now.

Speaking of burgers...anyone remember Lou's? Several basketball players worked there in late 60's early 70's

Oh yes Catsailor! On Rte 32. It was common even at 2am to be jammed in standing and waiting for a Fosdick or a Jimbo. It was the after hours burger joint where you'd see big time BBall players working trying to make a few extra bucks. Alijohn was the "character", giving the place it's local color. I also remember when, like so many other joints, they felt the need to expand, added tables, lost all their charm--and most of their customers. Turns out we loved standing, yelling our orders, and reaching over the horde with outstretched arms to get them. Who knew!

Ahhhhhh, life was so much simpler then.;)

This is one time when the West Coast rules. You kill us for pizza and anything Italian. And fried clams. If you ask if they have whole belly fried clams out here, they simply don't understand the question. But In and Out and Tommy's (really good burger with awesome chili) are just better than anything you can get back east.

Holy Crap! Fosdick and Jimbo were almost lost in the caverns of my memories until this post!! But then there was the plain jane CBG.

where you there for the little person (midget) in the captain's suit doing the ventriloquist act? Or the fire breather - lights go out on both and the show starts.

I've been to In 'n Out. It's fine. But at the end of the day it's still just fast food.

Red Robin is pretty good but the wait stafff plays that game where the waiter sits down at your table to take your order like they are some kind of buddy. Outback used to to do the same contrived and annoying thing .
Agree on 5 Guys: OK but nothing great.

I'm so glad Outback stopped that. I recall once when I was in a party of 4 and we basically claimed our spots in the booth. The waiter wanted to sit and asked my buddy (who was not familiar with the practice), "You wanna move in?" To which he recieved the simple response of, "No!"

AllieJohn added the "STOP" sandwich around 1969 or 1970

Yup....had a few STOPs in my day.

At 2:00 AM after some partying and getting the munchies...it was the only place to be...

I have never, and will probably not ever eat at Louie's Lunch. I may take it outside and put ketchup on the burger. I know how I like my burgers and if there is no BBQ sauce , I want ketchup. It's a hamburger. Get over yourself.

It's a funny thing - I love nearly all fast food and just about anything that can be artery-clogging, but for some reason steamed burgers just don't do anything for me.
