I really wasn't impressed at all. After years of driving by Teds in Meriden, I stopped in. Burger was ready in a minute, was okay, but overrated. A Five Guys or Mooyah is much tastier. Not as healthy, I suppose. Then to make matters worse, they served red bliss breakfast style potatoes instead of fries. Terrible.

Anybody ever try Louie's Lunch in New Haven? Credited in the Smithsonian as the first burger joint. I'm not sure if I can get over the white bread & no ketchup rule. I'm hearing In/Out is growing East. A few slated for Florida. I would love one in the Greater Hartford area!

I had a very good hamburger once, but I don't remember where it was. It was probably somewhere in New York if that helps.

I think it was near a highway.

Had Mooyah for the first time a month or so ago when I visited UConn for a bball game. Pretty good. Not as good as Five Guys in my opinion but they have more options which is a plus.

Always wanted to try Louie's but I dont know how I would like the no ketchup thing either. Five Guys is probably my favorite but if you want to try a good burger, go to that new restaurant at Mohegan Sun called the Hash House. All their food is good but the burgers are huge and I would say its one of the best burgers i ever had.

Those steamed hamburgers are horrible, never understood the appeal, any burger on a grill blows them away. Had Louie's once, not bad, but any bar burger is better imho.

Ted's is not the same as it was in the 70's/80's by the way but everyone has an opinion........I can't stand Five Guys yet mostly everyone else loves it and it's fries (rather have the red bliss home fries)..........Overall to me hamburgs cooked on my grill until they're almost like heels are the best!!

Five guys is overrated. Greasy diner hamburger basically. French fries are weak too. Best burgers have all been grilled, but only just to medium, at pubs etc. But even Chili's beats the burger chains by miles.

I went to the Shake Shack in Fairfield the other day and had a bacon cheeseburger. It was a normal burger nothing impressive. Five guys is okay, nothing great either.

I will say that some diners make the best burgers, and beat many of the franchises out there. If you find a diner in your area that makes a good burger no reason to shop around.

How is Red Robin anyone?

I'll tell you where Chili's beats the other burger options - in speed through my colon. Five Guys annoys me as I hate throwing food away, even if it's just fries. Sell me a portion I can actually finish for less $.

I'm pretty simple when it comes to burgers. A place like Archie Moore's or Black Duck did the job. If you're ever in Pgh, seek out Tessaro's.

We've had some places out here open up that specialize in 'artisinal' burgers and alcoholic milkshakes. Is that a thing back in CT? I never got the appeal of milk and booze - even white russians and brandy alexanders, let alone milkshakes.

Tried Ted's once and was not impressed, guess I'm not a fan of steamed burgers. 2 best burgers I've had were : 1) Golden Bridge NY, a a small tavern in a village in the middle of nowhere off 684 just north of Katonah. 2) A general store at Mt. Snow VT (no longer there). They ground the meat indivivually for each burger.

Red Robin is pretty good but the wait stafff plays that game where the waiter sits down at your table to take your order like they are some kind of buddy. Outback used to to do the same contrived and annoying thing .
Agree on 5 Guys: OK but nothing great.

The one time I had Teds... I remember thinking it would be terrible, and I walked away thinking- that wasn't bad. I haven't made it a point to go back.

Louis' Lunch... Ok, I feel strongly about this... Thank you for inventing the hamburger, but it is FAR AND AWAY the most overrated burger on planet earth.

My favorite overall CT burger: Plan B.

Favorite "quick" burger: Shake Shack, followed by 5 Guys

Louie's Lunch is great if you appreciate the taste of top quality lean beef cooked medium at most. In this day of gourmet burgers and greasy burgers, it will not impress those looking for interesting toppings, rolls or combination burgers (e.g., Plan B and the like); nor will it please those accustomed to the greasy glory of places like Five Guys and Shake Shack.

I like them all, but they are all different. Louie's is just about the meat and nothing else.

Some years ago, I stopped at a place on 22A in upstate, NY. Granville, I think. Had the best burger of my life. It was really incredible, down to the bun. I go by it, or within a mile, anyway, every time I go to Lake Champlain. The next time I stopped there the burger was very good, but not nearly like the 1st one. And the next time, it was barely passable. Same cook (the owner) every time. I went in and asked what changed about the burgers. She said everything was exactly the same. I've driven by the place a dozen times since then without even considering stopping in.

I make the best burgers at home, these days.

New Haven is the home of pizza, hamburgers and Yale, and yet is one of the 10 worst cities in America to live in.

Someone sure ed things up down there.

Well, if you're saying that it can sometimes unfortunately serve as a showcase for the failures of mid-20th Century urban renewal in a country that has never adequately addressed institutional and structural racism, you might be onto something. Otherwise, I don't agree, and I'd be interested in your list of America's 10 best cities to live in.

Up n' coming, Jake's. Good burger, shakes, fries and rings.
Best burger I have ever had was in the Irish pub on the top floor of the South Street Seaport pier, name has disappeared from my head.

Ted's is good, but since it's steamed, of course it's going to taste different than what most people think of. They are really juicy though. Nothing fancy. Louis' Lunch is similar, good but nothing fancy in a burger.

If someone can't find a burger they like at Plan B, then they must not like burgers. They are great because you can basically get whatever combination you like. They are more like Gourmet Burgers. Try the deep fried peppers & pickles. Yum!

Five Guys are just big burgers. I don't think they have anything special going on with their burgers. I'd take Wendy's over Five Guys any day.

Red Robin is the first place I ever tried a burger topped with a fried egg.

Life altering experience. Not saying it was the best burger ever, but it opened my eyes. We go there about once every three or four months because it's in the mall and the kids like the grilled cheese there.

Five Guys burgers are my favorite. The fries are only good if you eat them within the first 2-3 minutes after they come out of the frier. Otherwise they get soggy and greasy.

For chain burgers, I go with Wendy's or Steak and Shake.
