Won first set but no big serves, just hanging on, seemingly distraught during changes. Something definitely wrong.
Still may have enough at half speed.

Funny that the commentators refuse to recognize that something is amiss.

Who is she playing?

JJ, Jalena Jankovic, who she should beat with one hand tied behind her back

She eventually did, but I just couldn't watch after mid-way through the 2nd set.

Just hitting it in, no big serves, hardly running, head down during breaks in a towel…
Sobbing perhaps , hard to say, sure looked like it.

And up to the 3rd set, this complete change in her demeanor, shot selection and body language went unreported by the
commentators, as if they were afraid she'd never speak to them again.

Disgraceful reportage.

(Sorry I did not mark OT)

I'm watching the match right now, and all they are talking about is that something is amiss with Serena. Showing her in the 1st set with her face in her hands, etc etc. It's only the 1st set, but aside from the match specifics, it's almost all they've talked about so far.

They keep talking about her negative energy and wondering what's going on with her.

I stopped watching for long stretches but at one changeover ( I think the first), she had the towel over her face, her shoulders moving and she appeared to be sobbing. The camera stayed there (intrusively, the entire time) and there was not a word from the booth.

Perhaps there was a commercial somewhere and the booth was supposed to be off the air.

maybe family issue, boyfriend problems? Can't imagine anything else that would affect her like this...

I had the same thought…boyfriend is her coach
Her public after match statement was that she "hit a wall." Emotional exhaustion.
JJ was very skeptical and not very sympathetic in her post match presser.
Almost insinuated that Serena quits when she is losing.
The problem with JJ's remarks is that S was hardly trying from the get-go.
Doesn't say that much for JJ's game that she wasn't able to take advantage.
I watched the entire first set, a bit of the 2nd and none of the 3rd.
Patty cake serves at the outset and not much on her groundies either.

I didn't see it and have no interest in it, but I saw a clip on tv where she said that she was exhausted and felt like she's hit the wall after a long year of tennis.

Gee aj... and the OP did admit that he should have mark this topic as an OT.

I think there's some unwritten rule where if you don't like a particular topic on a thread you just skip reading the thread... or is that just plain common sense?

I think just a bit a fatigue for her more than anything else. She's now won the whole tourney and won the most tournaments for a year since Hingis in 1997. Congrats to Serena- her legend continues to stagger and she may just establish her self in front of Martina and Chrissy in 2014. Look forward to seeing that.

I believe that she has already done so...

John McEnroe called her the GOAT as she was serving out the French Open, so it was certainly an admissible argument. Having said that. if and when Serena gets to 19 Slams, I think that argument has to be over. The Olympic gold, the doubles success- I mean, I don't think Martina has an argument beyond 18>17 right now.

In an effort to make an absolute case for Serena's place in tennis history, I find myself admiring the fact that Martina's doubles success came with very good players, but no one of Venus Williams' caliber.

Well, mfs22b, what controversy will you try to stir up next?

There are many posters on this board who follow tennis, and enjoy discussing it with each other.

There are however very few who enjoy being told by someone, wrongly, what to post, especially when that person can simply ignore threads in which they are not interested.

If you want to talk tennis i suggest you post in this forum!

Seriously? You haven't been on this forum very long because if you had, you would know that there are at times, especially during the off-season, an eclectic selection of topics. Again, if you don't like the topic, please don't read it.

It's fun being a part of this forum. Why don't you just let this go an enjoy the basketball threads?
