The game was a pre-built hedged bet, a win-win trash TV cat fight.

Providence wins its Super Bowl, and the erstwhile hometown hero - multi-year featured face of the PC Fox network halftime commercial - reaps in proportion to what he sowed. His social-climbing grab for the gold ring at America's premiere Jesuit University has provided him with more than enough to cover the costs of whatever's needed to soothe his and his wife's hurt feelings. If not, nothing will.

Besides, shtick or tic, he has seemed to relish playing the anti-hero in broadcast & recorded comments, which should stoke the rivalry and build somebody's brand. Perhaps he'll even joke that English won with 'his' players.

Those whose takes have been stalled by their mystification that the animus was so high are entitled to continue airing their pique about something they truly don't care about, that only tangentially affects them. It'll evaporate soon enough enough, if it hasn't already.

Ed loses? "Hate to see it happen."

If Providence had lost? "Hate to see it happen."

If you tied any of this to a financial wager and lost? Well, that's on you. There should have been enough juice in the high drama and, I suppose, the game itself.

Final note: Devin Carter is a baller who did what was needed and handled his post-game handshake with the guy who sold him on Providence like a mensch.

I can't believe this thread is 14 pages and I'm actually skimming through them. I think Cooley is a great fit for Georgetown, trying to bring the hoyas back to relevance. On the flip side, chances are he won't be very successful. Add in the circumstances around his move from PC to Georgetown, I don't think he made a very wise choice.

In the early years of the new Big East Ed Cooley was such a great ambassador for this conference and help built a sense of brotherhood between the coaches...

We were driving from Scottsdale to Palm Desert listening to the game on Sirius and the PC announcers reminded me of the two guys who had a car repair radio show a few years ago. Like real homers having a good time and going wildly up and down emotionally as the game swung one way or the other. Very entertaining rather than just the professional announcers you usually get.

@FriarJ want to get some insight. I was at the game yesterday, decent seats in the lower bowl behind Hoya bench. Not sure if this was apparent on TV....

Once Cooley was out of the tunnel, he spent a good 5 minutes pointing, waving and thumbs-upping fans. Not the general crowd, like specific people. He seemed like he knew someone in every section. I've never seen anything like it, but it seemed like there are still folks who appreciate him in Friartown

My other hypothesis was maybe he was acknowledging the few people not flipping him the bird. I wasn't being demonstrative, just taking in the spectacle and I swear one of his waves was in my direction

John Rooke and the great Joey Hassett. Hassett was an all time Friar great who was also on the Sonics NBA Championship squad under Lenny Wilkins. Rooke is the stadium announcer at Patriot home games.

They have been together on friar broadcasts for over 30 years. If you are a friar fan they are the best.

He was well liked. Yesterday was cathartic for everyone, myself included. He is never going to change and I would die waiting. We said our piece and he heard it clearly. His press conference after was just more of the same narcissistic behavior we have come to expect recently. I’ve moved on.

My brother and I had tickets. I would have gone but I head to Mexico this week for a while and haven’t been feeling great so I decided to not do another cross country flight. He attended with a friend.
