Allen is Ryan Leaf. So of course the Browns will take him. Morons. If it is Mayfield, I can see that. He has the moxie and leadership skills to will the Browns into winning. They need more than talent.

The Giants have a tough call if Darnold slips to #2. They really should try to trade and drop back, so they can fill more holes. Barkley is a sure thing, but who is taking him that early other than the Giants? The Jets will take a QB. Trade back and you might still get Barkley and another pick. Otherwise, take Darnold.

If they can trade back to 5 with the Broncos and be sure to get Barkley, I say do it. But, Barkley is the crown jewel of the class, so if they aren’t confident in that scenario they should take him where they stand.

That Manziel 2.0 is going to end like Manziel 1.0

Unlike Manziel, Mayfield's translateable stats are really good.

If I'm the Giants I'm taking a QB. Barkley is great but an RB at #2 in this day and age? I'd trade down before taking a RB that high. Chubb also seems like a stretch at #2. He doesn't seem like he's that level of prospect e.g a Vonn Miller type.

Funny, I was just looking at these exact numbers and thinking that I really wouldn't mind the Giants trading down and taking Mayfield depending on the trade return. Not that it's likely at all, but it looks like a pretty well calculated risk.

I really think Mayfield is going top 3; if the Giants want him they need to take him at #2 (assuming today's rumors about the Browns taking him #1 are bogus and he's still there). The Jets won't let Mayfield get past 3.

Of course if that’s the case, then that scenario won’t work at all. If the Jets don’t take him, he could fall.

I do know what you mean. To me, the last real work horse RB the Giants had was Rodney Hampton and that was in the 90's

Except Tiki rushed more than Rodney (Not even counting the catches) and averaged a yard more per carry. Tiki got an incredible amount of touches, would be a Hall of Famer if he didn't retire early.

Denver also needs a QB.

I don't think they are taking one in the first round. They burned a high pick on Lynch and have Case Keenum, who was good enough to get the Vikes to the NFC championship game. If a couple of the hot QBs are on the board for them I think they'll trade back. I wouldn't be surprised if they grab one of the 2nd round guys, or get Lamar Jackson later in the first. Honestly, I think there are 7-8 QBs who may grade out closely, and some will go second round. Pretty sure Belichick is getting one with that first 2nd round pick (my gut says Rudolph or Falk). You get an extra contract year with a 2nd rounder as well. Anybody picking a guy they don't plan to start can use that.

I humbly disagree. Barkley will be a special player. I don’t think any of the QBs are as good as the top three drafted last year. And I don’t buy the “ don’t take a running back this early” theory. I think Barkley’s the best talent in this draft and much less of a gamble than one of the QBs at #2.

Not in this day and age. Given the salary structure, he's got to perform like an elite, elite back for the Giants to break even. The difference monetarily between what the average back vs that pick is astronomical. In a bad way.

The opposite is true of a quarterback. QBs make so much that if you can get a 1st rd (5yr) QB that can play? Franchise changing. The Eagles and Rams are set right now because they are paying their QBs well, well below market rate.

I mean, the amount the Patriots paid last year for Dion Lewis, James White, Rex Burkhead and Mike Gilleslee would be similar to what Barkley would earn in the last 2 years of his deal.

It's just not as important a position in the NFL as it once was. It's not like you see the best backs leading teams to championships. Adrian Peterson was a special player. Fat lot of good it did the Vikings.

There's tons of good backs that can be had for much, much less. And this draft is especially deep.

I think he's the best of this bunch. Not sure how great this QB crop is, nor how he'll pan out, but I like him the best.

Browns taking Mayfield #1 would be such a Browns move.

If Gmen don't go for Barkley I will scream
Don't need a QB right now - trade for a vet later or draft one in next 2 years
Cannot pass-up on someone like Barkley and don't need Chubb at #2

Don’t need a qb? Not saying being awful last year was all on Eli but he was part of it. Build a statue but it’s time to move on. Hopefully giants don’t pick 2 for a long time. Get a qb. You can find a good rb in the right system later in the draft.

I didn't think they'd do it, but there's a semi-realistic scenario where it makes sense to draft Mayfield #1 if they really want Barkley.

This is assuming they have 2 QBs similarly rated at the top. And all hypothetical because who knows whether the public releases are accurate.

So you know the Browns like Darnold/Mayfield. You know the Jets are taking a QB at 3, Mayfield or Rosen. You know the Giants only like Darnold and Barkley.

Taking Darnold means the Giants take Barkley and the Jets take Rosen. Now you miss out on Barkley. But taking Mayfield now means you get Barkley at 4 because the Giants get Darnold and the Jets get Rosen

Barkley all the way for the Blue. I will not settle for less. Manning needs a offensive weapon like him. I live in Penn State country but not a fan. However this kid is once in a lifetime. We have had less than stellar rushing. I am sure you agree. Draft a QB and he won't see the field. Let's get immediate impact.

If GMen want a QB then Allen because he needs to learn and wait while also being the best prospect for the NFL arm wise. I'm fine with the Barkley pick not really keen on Darnold.

Very interesting right to the end. Eli plenty left for a 2 year run with a line and weapons. We will see!!
