God help us if the Lakers get Kawhi. AD, LeBron, and Kawhi will cruise through season and if healthy I don't see who would beat them in the playoffs. I don't know who they will get but I imagine their bench will be just fine, plenty of ring chasers will join.

DLo is a bad fit on the Warriors. The thing about DLo is that he should be awesome as an off-ball catch and shoot guy, but he low-key sucks at it. He really wants to have the ball in his hands, work off a lot of ball screens and try to get to his mid range pull up or a floater, all of which run counter to what Kerr prefers to do. I mean, he's one of the better pick n roll point guards and is bad at everything else, and the Warriors run close to the least amount of pick n rolls.

I think it's a way worse fit for the Warriors offense than it looks like on paper unless he really changes how he plays.

The Warriors have already put D Lo on the trading block.

He will, but I tend to agree that this is poor roster construction. When your three best players are all guards, that's not ideal. If they were offering a max contract, why not Kawhi? He's much better than Russell. Who is playing in their front court?

Word is Warriors will trade him.

Why is everyone acting as if Kawhi isn't a super star. Nelson's original statement isn't even valid. IDK why I engage.

He's a super-star. The value of Kawhi to a team of good but not great players in Toronto is immense. The value of Kawhi to a team that already has LeBron and Brow, plus a bunch of scrubs, is much lower. Probably lower than merely bringing in three good but not great players to go with LeBron and AD.

I think a lot of GMs suck at roster construction. You want a team that is better than the sum of its parts. That means if you've got a power forward that plays like a point guard and needs the ball in his hands, you want to surround him with the right guys. Reddick would have been perfect for the Lakers. Deadly when LeBron or Davis is doubled and passes out, but doesn't create much and doesn't need the ball in his hands.

DLo to GS is another head scratcher. There's no fit there. Curry needs the ball in his hands and so does Russell. Edit: just saw post above

They may be heavy favorites with gamblers, but that team is going to struggle at times given how bad their bench is going to be. How many minimum contract players can a team have in its Top 8 and still expect to win? Who will guard Jokic or Aldridge? What happens if one of the Big 3 even sprains an ankle.

The Lakers could have gotten 4 quality players for what they are going to pay Kawhi. They don't need more stars, they need a team around the stars they have. Unfortunately, the ship has already kind of sailed on Plan B, so maybe it is Kawhi or bust at this point.

If it happens, their team will have the 3 best players to ever play together. You start there, and you get the ring chasers at a discount and go from there.

It's hard to believe Nelson and HuskyHawk are arguing against this. I guess there always has to be a couple contrarians no matter what, it's still insane though.

I'm very confused by this Russell situation. If they're already planning to trade him then why would he do the sign and trade? What am I missing?

Edit: only option for him to get max deal?

He'd probably have to okay the landing spot until the 6th, which limits GSW options. But yeah, locking in the max is also a good thing for him.

They can shop him until July 6th. Then they have to wait.

It's a sign and trade acquisition, he doesn't even become theirs until after July 6th. They'd have to wait until December to trade him again regardless.

The Nuggets will go on a multi year run of playoff basketball, a top 4 seed, and relevance. I doubt they ever win a title with this roster. I still think in this NBA you need a mega star or two to win it all. The Raptors still had Kawhi but if the Dubs were healthy, they would have been blown out.

Denver will win a title if MPJ pans out. That is a big "if" but they have one of the best players in the NBA and another guy in Murray who should be top 25 by 2021. They just need a 3rd star.

Gary Harris is what Draymond Green would call a "16" game player.

The point is they can modify the transaction by the 6th so the original deal changes form into a 3 way trade or whatever.

Or bol...

Or they both hit enough to become assets to land that 3rd Star

I don't know that it would be the three best players of all time. I think that's a stretch. But show me a team that made a long run of success with a similar roster.

Showtime Lakers had: Magic, Jabaar, Worthy but also Byron Scott, Cooper, Rambis, AC Green
Bulls had Jordan, Pippen, Rodman, plus Armstrong, Kerr, Harper, Kukoc etc.
Celtics had Bird, McHale, DJ or Tiny, Parish, and filled in with quality guys around them...Ainge, Carr etc.

I've never seen a team win a championship with three great players and a bunch of guys who were below average in the league.

Exactly who would you realistically want them to sign for 3-4 years? That dream ended with a ruptured achilles a few weeks back.
Randle (and he was so no complaint there). I would have preferred 3-4 years for Portis if they're signing him at all. Would have also liked 4 years at more money for Brogdon

Kawhi is one of the 3 best players in the league. If he wants to come to your team, you take him

You really shouldn't be doubling down on this.

Blazers get Whiteside for Harkless and Leonard.

I like that gamble for Portland. Whitesides upside and only a one year contract make this well worth it.

Lakers would have 2 best players in the league PLUS Anthony Davis. It's LeBron's Heat on steroids
