First, if we keep talking about UConn, we're going to kill ourselves. We've gone all Lord of the Flies.

Let's pick a team, climb on that bandwagon and then maybe flood their message boards with nonsense when they lose. Or claim that their ultimate victory was all our doing.

Who left in the field do we hate the least?

And, to avoid confusion, "Whoever is Playing Syracuse" and Whoever is Playing Kentucky" are more sentiments than actual teams.

LOL - you are more likely to get people to agree on politics or religion than who they dislike the least in college bball.

However, I would suggest some criteria:
1) Never won it all before (or at least not since going to 64)
2) Have some kind of chance of actually winning it
3) A young coach
4) Smokin hot cheerleaders

Florida State? At least then we could say we beat the eventual champs.
Vanderbilt? They never get to have nice things (in athletics).
Gonzaga? Mid-Major favorite.
Xavier? They would have to beat Notre Dame, Duke and Kentucky.

We could always root for San Diego State....

They have big hands, they play at altitude and if we start now, we will have been fans for almost as long as the San Diego State board has.

Nah FSU is an ACC team. I'm rooting for New Mexico.

Ground rules:

They should probably be a team that can actually win it (goodbye all under-4 seeds)
They shouldn't be a team whose championship would be irritating on the whole, and perhaps disrupt our recruiting (goodbye Syracuse, UNC, Duke, UK).
They should play an enjoyable style (goodbye Wisconsin)
They should not make us leery of cheating (goodbye Baylor)

This leaves us with:
  • Indiana
  • Michigan State
  • Louisville
  • Marquette
  • Mizzou
  • Kansas
  • Georgetown
  • Michigan
  • Ohio State
  • Florida State
Thoughts...

VCU. If it can't be us, why not a mid major? It would be fun to see them win, and to be able to go on their board and tell them that UConn fan power was the reason.

I vote Mizzou, they are extremely fun to watch and I think have a good shot.

Leonard Hamilton is one of my favorite coaches. That UConn-Miami rivalry was awesome before Michael Jordan/ACC ruined it. I say FSU.

Even though we have Kansas friends on the board (beakum!), I'm also going to throw my lot with Mizzou. This team has yet to be in the Final Four, and their coach hasn't been at Mizzou long enough to start cheating (which is perhaps a strike against them).

I really felt like Lousiville was going to make a run this year after beating them in last years BE Final. Even though I generally dislike Pitino but he was at least man enough to push for keeping the rest of the BE together and probably is the reason we now have Memphis and Temple. I'm rooting for them for this tourney.

I'm in for Marquette. They played great in their first game. I love their all out attacking style. They defend the hell out of the ball. And, even being undersized, get to the boards with the best of them. AND Crowder is the man. If we had him on our roster, we never would have come close to dropping out of the Top 10. And we sure as hell would still be in the damn tournament! And we would not only have won last night; but we would have sent The Squid home to cry in his beer! My backup is Vandy; but I would really like to see Marquette do well.

It's very simple, I've developed a strategy from going to the Big East Tournament over the years. When UCONN isn't playing, you root for the team with the best dance team. Since you don't see the dance team on tv, then it's the hottest cheerleaders.

Luckily this year the Lousiville Ladybirds were far above any competition.

Haith was the coach at Miami so his hands may be a little dirty, but nothing that I am very uncomfortable with.

I'm all in for Florida State and that is saying a lot as they are ACC AND Leonard Hamilton is the coach. Wait, maybe I should rethink this. How about Missouri. Not sure I really like Frank Haith, but what the hell.

- Mizzou
- Marquette
- maybe Cincy
- maybe G'Town
- I'd say FSU but can't stomach ACC
- the rest of the mid-majors and little schools (wouldn't mind seeing Gonzaga finally get to the FF)

Mizzou isn't a bad choice - but what about keeping the trophy in the Big East - Marquette

As far as having fun with some of their fans I am not opposed to San Diego State.

I've already been hanged for expressing my view on this, but I'll be with Kansas from here on. I do like this Marquette team and I am thrilled to see Indiana climbing back where they belong.
