Once they make the masses get flu shots, we’ll know true democracy has been lost!!!!! It will be an unbearable loss of freedom that I’m just not willing to accept. God forbid I get pricked by a needle for a brief moment to protect another’s freedom....

Wait, that would mean that getting a flu shot actually promotes freedom, meaning that another’s freedom from illness is of greater importance than your freedom from minor inconvenience. That’s sort of how freedom works—It’s a calculation of worth; we don’t live in a world free from any and all constraint. We recognize that some individual constraints promote the liberties of all.

well said. I'll get my shot tomorrow to protect your freedom. Apparently the only way your vaccination works is if I get one too (quantum entanglement I suppose). It all makes sense now.

You can probably thank the ignorant anti-vaccine crowd for that excellent improvement.

BTW be sure to ask your doctor for the single dose pre-filled syringe, the multi-dose vials still have the thimerisol.

I'm sure the people who thought talcom powder causes cancer were not that long ago thought to be ignorant and nuts.

The problem with comparing the flu shot to other vaccines is you get the other vaccines once and you are done, the current flu - shot is a yearly thing for something that isn't really that deadly. Thankfully they are working on a one time cures all vaccine for flu, I'll wait for that one.
You’re probably ok living next to coal-burning utility too.

I don't get them but good god I don't get the anti vaccination craze. I just can fight off a flu and every time I take a shot I seem to get the flu for a few days. Also for those rolling their eyes at needing to get vaccinations (for more important things than the flu) in order to protect the rest of us... that is how it works! we need to eradicate the disease as a society, you not taking the shot lets the disease spread and mutate risking its evolution into something we can't fight off.

I’m hit or miss. Usually get it when I get my physical. Had my appointment earlier this year so this year I missed the flu shot. Of the years I had the shot and didn’t have the shot, I only got sick beyond a cold in years when I had the shot. Meaningless andcdotal evidence, but some years they guess wrong and it isn’t very effective.

Kids? Or, flu shots? If the former, apparently you're several months too late. Congrats! If the latter, MiniUconnFanNVaToBe likely appreciates your concern.

lol thanks. Kid was born 12/1, got the flu shot several months before that.

always get it, offered free through work. If you have the opportunity to get it, especially for free, do it.

Depends on where you work and if it is a required thing to get. As a teacher we are not mandated to get a flu shot...yet but I get one to avoid catching it. Sad part if you do get a flu shot and ask what type the shot is for; Type A, B, or C..and D, you never know about the subtypes. So it is like a crap shoot.

This is natural selection happening. If you're too scared or paranoid to take care of yourself, you deserve the consequences.

Look at the ingredients before getting a flu shot. Not good. Every year you get bombarded to get a flu shot, it's big money for the pharmaceutical companies. It's all about money not your health.

Dude get your kids vaccinated, i'm not stopping you. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is something we can all agree on. But don't take away my liberty with your hysterics.

We can also agree that you chosing not to vaccinate your children puts mine and everyone elses directly in harms way. Hysterics? You and your ilk are idiots.

The money that pharmaceutical companies make on flu vaccines barely registers. It's a rounding error when compared to their total sales, and a low-margin business on top of it.

I don’t care whether you believe it or not. Never been sick before. And in 24 years of work, never called in sick once.

I know a few people like you. One had never been sick or called out in 30+ years. He was also the guy who didn't wash his hands after using the bathroom -- I guess he figured that since he didn't ever actually get sick he didn't need to bother with hygiene.

Of course, for every one of you, there are twenty martyrs who think they're being heroes by never calling out sick. They show up to the office and spread the viral plague to everyone -- they're the modern equivalent of medieval rats.

If your kids are vaccinated , they should be protected against my unvaccinated child right, why worry.

Opiods work. Just like the flu vaccinne works. Opiods become problematic when over-prescribed and abused. I'm not telling you to abuse the flu vaccine.
You do realize doctors get kickback for prescribing drugs right? Doctors have been trained to treat not cure in this modern age. Not a coincidence.

You miss my point. If vaccinations are safe then they need not worried about my unvaccinated child. Ask yourself this, why are children all of sudden allergic to peanuts. This was unheard-of back in the day, now it's a problem. Ask yourself why. Why are one in 40 children are autistic when is was nonexistent decades ago. Coincidence?

How about if you are old people?

Years ago, I took my Doctor's advice and got the flu shot. That year, I got the flu worse than I'd ever had it in my life. (I'd only ever had a flu once before that, to my recollection). So from then on, I refused to take it.

Until last year. My GP urged me to take it last year, knowing that I refuse it every year. It was already half way through the flu season and some blood work came back with results he didn't like, so I had to see him again. Nothing to do with the flu, but while I was there, he reminded me that I was 71, and this particular strain for flu seemed to want to kill old people. I still refused. But he sent me to a specialist for my thyroid (regarding the questionable test results referenced above, and an Xray that he ordered). I call her Doctor Hottie. Doctor Hottie convinced me to get a flu shot.

So I got one again this year. Oddly enough, I got even older since the last one. Doctor Hottie will be proud of me when I see her for a follow up next month.

That's not how it works. Google is your friend. I literally copied and pasted your text into google and this was the first result: Who Is at Risk From Unvaccinated Kids?

However, given your point of view regarding vaccination I'm going to go ahead and guess you think there is a little man behind a curtain at Google's headquarters manipulating search results, so you probably won't pay any attention to this.

Just to really drive the point home. From the article I posted above:

A CDC report of the death of a vaccinated child with leukemia is a heartbreaking illustration of how kids with immune system problems can be at high risk from vaccine-preventable diseases. The four-year-old with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) developed a fever 22 days after being exposed to chicken pox and just after starting another round of chemotherapy, which causes profound immunosuppression. She was hospitalized and died of multi-organ failure a few days later.

This is more than heartbreaking, it's criminal. Don't throw around "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" when it comes to being completely negligent. Do anti-vaxxers also think they should be allowed to drive around black-out drunk without being held accountable for their actions becuase "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness"?

C'mon, enough with the factual information. You wouldn't want to upset the ill-informed.
