OT: Favored Alternate Arrangements of Songs

Muse arrangement of Prince's "Sign O' The Times"

Although some may consider sacrilege. I prefer Cake's arrangement of "War Pigs" (Black Sabbath if you live under a rock.)

I don't know if preferred, but I do like it.

Man of Constant Sorrow

Originally ..... Dick Burnett? Dylan did a popular version. And of course The Soggy Bottom Boys

Here it's Charm City Devils

If you are going to pick alternate Springsteen, you need to include the best one (and biggest hit):
Sorry, I duped this song. I didn't see it. I tried to delete my post but selecting DELETE won't work.

One thing I loved about Gentle Giant is that they never tried to recreate studio versions of their songs when playing live. They often completely rearranged the music, as in this one. I saw them, I think at Woolsey in around 1977, and they played this.

Frank Zappa also liked to mess with arrangements, plus he had a constantly revolving band. This one features Phlo and Eddie, erstwhile Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of the Turtles.

Outstanding remake of the Stylistics song by Norman Connors and Phyllis Hyman

I Ilke this version by Ramsey Lewis. RIP

Like this one better than the Dylan original.

Eleri Ward's cover of "Johanna (Reprise)" from Sweeney Todd. I cannot stop listening to this, what used to be my least-favorite song from the musical. (She recorded this version of the video in her apartment during the lockdown.)

(and here's a link to the official video; the sound quality is, obviously, so much better.

Also, Eleanor McEvoy's cover of "Mother's Little Helper," which evokes a different mood than the Rolling Stones' original.

Sad to see Ramsey Lewis just passed away September 12, 2022 at the age of 87. RIP. He had a string of cover versions in the mid sixties, including Hang on Sloopy, Wade in the Water, A Hard Days Night, and Up Tight. I loved them all. Here is his biggest cover hit, reaching #5 on the pop charts. He always sounded like he was having fun.

One of the best remakes imo; originally a Snoop Dogg song:
