Frank Zappa also liked to mess with arrangements, plus he had a constantly revolving band. This one features Phlo and Eddie, erstwhile Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of the Turtles.

Like this one better than the Dylan original.

Eleri Ward's cover of "Johanna (Reprise)" from Sweeney Todd. I cannot stop listening to this, what used to be my least-favorite song from the musical. (She recorded this version of the video in her apartment during the lockdown.)

(and here's a link to the official video; the sound quality is, obviously, so much better.

Also, Eleanor McEvoy's cover of "Mother's Little Helper," which evokes a different mood than the Rolling Stones' original.

Sad to see Ramsey Lewis just passed away September 12, 2022 at the age of 87. RIP. He had a string of cover versions in the mid sixties, including Hang on Sloopy, Wade in the Water, A Hard Days Night, and Up Tight. I loved them all. Here is his biggest cover hit, reaching #5 on the pop charts. He always sounded like he was having fun.

One of the best remakes imo; originally a Snoop Dogg song:

And a beautiful and powerful Gospel remake of a Dylan song:

Dylan recorded this on his first album, legend has it that he stole the recorded arrangement from Dave Van Ronk, it was a staple of Van Ronk’s live show during the early 60’s.

When I posted the first two videos I was thinking along the lines of the original singers different arrangement of their own song, not so much cover songs. There are just so many songs that you could put on here that are cover songs.
